Can a visa on arrival be extended?

Thailand Visa on Arrival

I arrived in Thailand by land, from Cambodia, on July 31. I’d like to stay until September 6. Is this possible to visit the Immigration in Bangkok and receive an extension on the 15-day visa on arrival?

Unfortunately, the visa on arrival can only be extended to 7 days at the Thai Immigration office. Should you wish to stay for a month more, then you may do a border run twice, each entry you will get 15 days or exit the country by land and reenter by air to get another 30-day stamp.

    Hello,
I bought accommodation for 14 nights from March 10 2024 to march 24 2024 so a total of 15 days from days from the entry date. Returning flight was scheduled on Mach 24, 22:30 time but the airline company change it to 00:35, 2 hours later but the next day. Would this be a problem for visa on arrival? I will still pass by the immigration office on the 15th day but the plane will take off 35 minutes in the day 16th.
Visa on arrival for me is 15 days
    Thank you

      Hello, Sorin.

It would be best if you report this change and explain your situation to the immigration office before your flight, as you don’t want to be caught overstaying. You may be required to pay a fee of 500 THB for the day you’ll be overstaying.

I was wondering is it possible to extend my 30 day visa on arrival when I get to Thailand. And if so how many times would it be possible ?

    • February 14, 2024

      Hello, Abbie Simmons.

The Visa on Arrival can only be extended for 7 days at the Thai immigration office. If you wish to stay in Thailand for longer, you can do a border run twice, with each entry giving you 15 days. You can also exit and re-enter the country by air to get another 30-day stamp.

Hi. We are planning to come to Thailand in October and get visa on arrival. What is the validity period for the VOA? Is it 15 or 30 days? Should our return ticket be within 15 days or 30 days?

    • February 14, 2024

      Hello, Athirai Valluvan.

The Visa on Arrival is valid for only 15 days, so it is recommended that you get a return ticket within that period.

    Dear Sir/ madam

I’m an Indian National. I have taken 60 days tourist visa, which is ending soon. But due to Covid19, I am kind of reluctant to travel back to India. Is there any way that I can extend my visa for another 30 days?

    • You can request for 7 days or 30 days extension. However, if you were only given 7 days, please contact your embassy or consulate in Thailand to provide a letter stating that you are affected by the current COVID-19 crisis and that your flight has been canceled. The embassy will request the immigration office to extend your stay for 30 days.

      Hello shubh

How much Money to proof for 6month tourist visa.
Do I need to paid full amount for hotel to proof it? Please reply my answer thank you

    • April 13, 2020

The bank account requirement for the 6 months multi entry Tourist Visa depends on the Thai Embassy or consulate where you will submit the application. Usually it is around 1,000 USD to 4,000 USD.

    Hello there,
I’m actually an Indian national, coming to Thailand on 15 June. I’ll be coming on Visa On Arrival and would like to extend my VOA. So how can I extend that?
    Awaiting for the reply.😊

    • June 1, 2018

For Indian passport holder, you can enter Thailand under visa on arrival for 15days. If you wish to stay longer you need to apply for a Thai tourist visa at the Thai embassy in India. Extending your 15-day visa on arrival will be difficult because they will only extend it if it is for medical reason. extension of this visa is only up to 7days for 1900THB.

    Good morning!

We are currently living and working in Shanghai China ( we are Romanian nationals) and we plan a 2 month trip in South Asia next spring. We would like to enter Thailand via flight in Bangkok, go north, exit through through the Laos border (by boat), go on to visit Vietnam and after re-enter in Thailand to visit the south part. And finally, fly out from Bangkok. Is this itinerary possible? Should the re-entry permit procedure fit our travel plans? Thank you.

    • December 13, 2016

You may obtain visa on arrival twice. You just have to pay 1000 baht each time at the airport. You can stay up to 15 days in Thailand on each trip.

    • October 26, 2016

There is currently no express visa on arrival service. You will need to apply through the same counters as all the applicants on the day of your arrival.

I have a European passport and obtained a 30 day visa upon arrival when entering the country. These 30 days run out on 29.9. I would like to apply for a seven day extension to my visa without leaving the country. Can I only do this at the immigration office and how much does this cost?

Is an alternative option to extend my visa doing a visa run? Which I would do via land and that would give me an additional 15 days?

    • September 20, 2016

The extension can only be done at an immigration office in Thailand for 1,900 THB. If you wish to do a border run, you may do so and re-enter on visa exemption.

I am an Indian passport holder and are planning a 15 day VISA ON ARRIVAL in Thailand. Since we are required to show our exit route under 15 days, and since I am going to Cambodia right after, can I show a confirmed bus ticket (from Bangkok to Siem Reap) rather than a flight ticket? I also have a confirmed flight ticket from Phnom Penh back to India after a few days of stay in Cambodia.

    • August 22, 2016

You can show your travel itinerary including the bus ticket and flight information as long as you are able to prove that you will exit Thailand within the 15-day visa on arrival. If you have a hotel reservation in Cambodia, please also show this to the immigration officer.

I’m Canadian citizen. What is the longest validity for my visa to Thailand. And then how many days at maximum I can extend it?

    • July 18, 2016

The visa validity depends on the type of visa that you will apply for. I suggest that you get in contact with the Thai embassy in your location to inquire about the validity period of the specific visa you want to apply for.

    • April 25, 2016

You may visit the nearest Immigration Office if you wish to get an extension to your visa on arrival. The duration of extension, however, cannot be more than 30 days per entry.

I will reach suwarnabhumi airport in bangkok on 2 june 2016 and leave the same day for cambodia from don mueng airport.

I will come back to thailand on june 5 through don mueng airport. I will finally leave thailand on june 11.

Being a citizen of india I can get visa on arrival.

My question is whether I need to get this visa twice, i.e. once at suwarnabhui on june 2 and once again at don mueng on june 5, or whether the visa I get at suwarnabhumi on 2 june will be valid when I want to enter thailand again on june 5.

    • March 3, 2016

Yes, you will need to apply for Visa on Arrival for each time you’ll need to enter Thailand.

I need to know what visa type I need to apply for. I will be applying from the Bangalore VFS office. Indian Citizen

I will be starting from Bangalore to Thailand and tour in Thailand for 5 days. Then I will take a flight to Cambodia, stay in Cambodia for 4 days. Return from Cambodia to Bangkok, stay in Bangkok for 1 night next day take a flight back to bangalore. I will need to enter Thailand TWICE and exit TWICE. What visa category should I apply for? Is there a double entry tourist visa?

    • November 26, 2015

You may apply for a tourist visa at the Thai Embassy in your country. Tourist visa is valid for 60 days and therefore it should cover the date of your planned trips. Since you are making two trips to Thailand, you will need a re-entry permit to make sure that you’ll still be able to use the same visa on your second entry to Thailand.

    Hello,

We are two Indians (husband and wife). We come to Thailand by air on the 20th of December 2015 and stay in Thailand for 8 days. We then leave for Siem Reap, Cambodia (visa for cambodia done) and we return on the 30th of December, again by air from Siem Reap and plan to stay another 1 day in Thailand. Can we receive Visas on Arrival both times we entry the country?

    Thank you so much!

    • November 24, 2015

As long as you meet the requirements for the visa on arrival application, you should be able to obtain one when you travel to Thailand. For more information regarding visa on arrival for citizens of India, please visit the website below:

    • November 19, 2015

Under the visa exemption rule, citizens of Italy are permitted to stay in Thailand up to 30 days if entering via international airport or a land border checkpoint from a neighboring country.

      November 19, 2015

But we come from Romania, not Italy, so we have Romanian passports. For Romanians I know the new regulations allows a 15 days stay for the Visa on Arrival, that’s why I was wondering if we can get it twice. First when we enter the country and the when we return from Kuala Lumpur for the second part of our trip. Thank you!

Visa on arrival is only valid for 15 days. If you wish to stay longer than 15 days, you will need to apply for a tourist visa at the Thai Embassy in your country.

I am a US Passport holder, staying in Chiang Mai, Thailand. I did a Visa run to Vientiane, Laos at the end of July (my 1st ever) and when I re-entered Thailand by plane the next day, I received a 30 day VISA upon Arrival. I am wanting to continue touring this entire area to decide where I may want to retire and live Since Thailand is so centrally located between so many countries, I’d like to get a 60 or 90 day Non-Imm. VISA, possibly convert it to a Ed-VISA to learn Thai, attain a EFL cert. & teach English here, IF I decide Thailand is the right spot.

Is it possible to obtain THAT 60 or 90 NON Imm. NOW, in Chiang Mai’s Thai Immigration or Consular Offices? If not, is it still possible to do another run across the border to another place such as Myanmar (what crossing would be suggested?) AND if I travel there by land and fly back (I read that in your above replies) to Chiang Mai, will I be required to buy a return ticket to Myanmar ? Since it may not be suitable for me to retire in Myanmar . The 29th is my present 30 day VISA Waiver, so please be expeditious on this reply.
Thank you for your wonderful advice and assistance !

    • August 26, 2015

If you wish to apply for a non-immigrant visa in Thailand, the purpose of your stay must be in line with the visa category which you will be applying for. Additionally, you will need to meet the requirements for the visa application.

In regard to travelling to Myanmar, you might be required to show proof that you will leave Thailand on or before the end date of your permitted travel But this is not necessarily a flight back to Myanmar. As long as you can prove to the immigration that you are a bona fide tourist, then you should be allowed to enter Thailand and be granted with 30-day entry stamp.

Applying for an ED visa is another subject as this is dependent to your qualification and the Thai school who will be providing the documents for the application. We advise that you talk to one of our Thai visa specialists so we can explain to you further your options for entering and staying in Thailand. You may leave your contact details and we will get in touch with you as soon as we can.
