Divorcee getting married in Thailand

Thailand Divorce

I am a divorced Western woman and would like to get married to a very young man aged 24 in Thailand, will this be a problem in Thailand?

There are no restrictions for a divorcee or even if there are problems with the age limits for those who wish to get married in Thailand. As long as both obtains affirmation of freedom to marry from respective embassy, once translations and legalization completed, then legal marriage shall be processed.

Hello it is me Robert again I was in Thailand back in February 17 – March 8 and we went to the American Embassy and filled the proper paperwork to get married then we went back to her city to file the proper paperwork and now we have our marriage license and now she wants a traditional Thai wedding and the mother wants 300,000 baht for the Sor Sob / Dowry because her daughter has three college diplomas. I am wondering because she has already been married and have a son together. Can someone please tell me if what do I have to pay for a Dowry please?

I’m a Thai citizen but my fiance is an Indian citizen. We would like to get married in Thailand but there’s some specific information we need to find out before proceeding. He was married and divorced under Muslim law in India. My question is that, would the divorce document under Muslim law be sufficient enough as affirmation of freedom to marry in Thailand?

I have called the Thai Embassy in New Delhi earlier today to acquire the information and was informed that first I need to find out from Thailand whether the divorce paper under religion law in India would be acceptable, if so, my fiance would need to get the document attested by the foreign affair in India, then it will have to go through the Indian embassy in Thailand for attestation again before submitting the document along with other required documents for our marriage in Thailand.

Please kindly clarify this for me. Thank you so much in advance.

For your fiance to be able to get married in Thailand, he will need to obtain an Affirmation of Freedom to Marry from the Indian Embassy in Bangkok. Whether or not the divorce document is valid will be determined by the Indian Embassy and, therefore, it is best that you contact them, instead, and verify your concern.

Your girlfriend may be able to get divorced from her spouse if:

      1. she is not married to another Filipino and
      2. her non-Filipino spouse will be the one to initiate and file for the divorce in Thailand.

Supposing that the divorce case has been allowed to be filed, the time frame when it can be finally decided by the Thai court is still indefinite and, therefore, we are not able to advise on how long it will take before you can get married.
