No, you cannot apply or even enter Thailand on a Tourist visa on a one-way ticket. The Embassy or consulate will refuse your visa application if not being able to provide proof of return or outgoing ticket from Thailand. In order to apply for a Thai Tourist visa, you must present itinerary or confirm paid ticket showing arrival and departure date as well.

Yes, it is possible to obtain a visa exemption stamp at the airport when you enter Thailand from Manila to Bangkok. You only need to show that you are traveling from Thailand to Malaysia by bus on the 30th day from the date of arrival.
If you are traveling to Malaysia after 30 days, you need to have a proper tourist visa before traveling to Thailand from Manila. This tourist visa, you can get from a Thai embassy or consulate nearest you.

On their website it lists the following documents for said visa:

If you got married outside Thailand, you can bring your marriage certificate to the Thai embassy in London and apply for the 90-day non-O visa including those documents that you have already mentioned. Then, once you’re already in Thailand, you and your wife need to get a “Koror 22” document from your wife’s district office in Thailand, which you will use in extending your 90-day non-O to 1 year marriage visa. For your second and third questions, it is not necessary for you to book a ticket prior to your visa application. If you got married in Thailand, you can ask your wife go to her district office and obtain the “koror 2” and “koror 3” documents translated into English and legalized by the MFA. You will need those documents to apply for the non-immigrant “O” visa in your home country.

I live in Thailand on retirement visa extension which expires January 2018. My query is, I am in Australia to see my family and will be travelling back to Thailand in December. My plan is to travel one way, but I have heard of travellers being either turned away or having to show an outbound booked travel ticket or not allowed to fly until onward travel can be shown. I realize onward travel would be a requirement for Tourist visa. But does this also apply to retirement?
This rule or requirement is only applicable to those who are entering Thailand without a visa or those who are under the visa exemption rule. Retirement visa holders are not required to show travel itinerary.

You may check with the Thai embassy or consulate where you will submit the application whether your WP3 will be accepted or not. Generally, in submitting an application, you need to provide at least a one-way ticket to Thailand together with the other requirements.

Hi, please can you confirm if this is OK regarding Visa. My daughter and 2 friends want to travel Southeast Asia during 2017 Feb, March, April, and May. They, then, plan to fly out Hat Lai to Kuala Lumpur to backpack Malaysia and Indonesia and fly back to UK from Bali.

Once they exit Thailand, their 30-day visa free entry will already be cancelled. So when they enter on the second instance, they will receive a new 30-day stamp.

Based on your US passport, you can enter Thailand without a visa for a maximum of 30 days. Since you only have a one-way ticket, you need to show other evidence – like a hotel reservation or travel itinerary- that you will exit Thailand within the allowed duration of stay.

However, I was going to take the bus/train from Bangkok to Angkor Wat. You will have to show any proof that you will no longer be in Thailand before the 30-day entry stamp expires. You may present an itinerary or other proof such as hotel accommodation in your next destination showing the dates that you are expected to be in that country, etc.

Hi, I am purchasing a one way ticket to go to Thailand because I am not sure of a final itinerary. Here is my tentative plan. Fly into Bangkok, 3-4 days, volunteer at an elephant nature park for one month, take a train to Chiang Mai for a month and a half, explore Northern Thailand for a few weeks, then perhaps Laos, then to all of the Thai Islands for a undecided amount of time. Would a travel visa be needed and how does that work if I’m undecided about where I am flying home from. I am definitely planning on going to Malaysia and Indonesia as well. Yes, you definitely need a proper tourist visa because if you add up your stay in Bangkok, Chiang Mai and Northern Thailand, it will exceed 30 days. However, if you cannot get a tourist visa in advance, you can enter on a 30 days entry stamp and you must extend it for 30 days at local immigration office, perhaps in Chiang Mai. After crossing to Laos, if you plan to return to Thailand and wishes to stay for few weeks, I suggest for you to get a proper tourist visa in Vientiane before returning to Thailand so that you will have enough time to explore the Thai islands.

My partner and I are currently on an extended OE where we have been wanting to spend quite a bit of time in Thailand and travel in and out, as we love it and have a great place to stay and explore the culture.
We have been in the country for close to a month and are currently exploring a bit of Vietnam.
We heard through a travel agency that when we return we will be given another 60 days in the Thailand as we are travelling by air..
We are planning on travelling to Cambodia, Laos and Vietnam again after that time frame (unsure how long for), but my father will be flying to Thailand from New Zealand and joining us before that happens. The problem with that is we are unsure of exact dates for travel at this point and would like some advice from the embassy about what are our best options for this trip.
Are we OK to come in and out of the country like this when we have already been there, or do we need to try and get a tourist visa? (With the problem being that we don’t have exact dates of travel to Cambodia?)

Depending on your nationality, you might be able to be permitted to stay in Thailand for 60 days when your enter the country by air. However, the immigration officer at the airport will likely probe more about your intention to travel if they see that you have been recently issued with the 60 days entry stamp. Obtaining a tourist visa can be a good idea as it gives you more assurance that you will have no problem when entering Thailand.
