No Thai Visa Required – Citizens of Myanmar

I am a holder of Myanmar passport. I heard the news that citizens of our country will no longer require a visa to enter Thailand. When is the implementation of this new rule, and how many days can we stay in Thailand if we are traveling without a visa?

Citizens of Myanmar are now allowed visa-free visits to Thailand for up to 14 days if arriving by way of air travel into the country. The recent reciprocal agreement has been implemented last August 11, 2015 which also gives visa waiver privilege to Thai nationals who wish to travel to Myanmar for a maximum duration of 14 days.

At the moment, there are 23 airports across the Kingdom of Thailand where travelers may arrive via a commercial aircraft. The regulation, however, in all the land borders or immigration checkpoints remains the same as Burmese citizens are still required to obtain proper visas if entering Thailand by means of land travel from a neighboring country.

Hi. I am a Myanmar citizen passport holder. I had bought my return air ticket for Kuala Lumpur/Chiangmai/Kuala Lumpur, outgoing 22 January 2017 and return on 07 February 2017. Total 17days. Do I need to apply for a visa enter to Thailand? If yes, please advise the details for applying the visa. What about if I plan to stay in Chiangmai for 10 days and exit to Myanmar for 1 week by land, and come back to Chiangmai to fly back to Kuala Lumpur by flight on the day 17, do I still need to apply visa? Please advise. TQ

    • September 17, 2016

If you will stay in Thailand for 17 days, you need to obtain a tourist visa before traveling to Chiang Mai. Please contact the Thai embassy or consulate in your location for assistance with the requirements and application procedure.

If you will do two trips into Thailand, you can only enter on visa exemption for a maximum of 14 days if you arrive through an international airport.

I have a doubt about the Myanmar citizen is exit by land border immigration back to Myanmar, we do not have the proof of flight or accommodation and how/ what should we show to the immigration officer to get the visa-free visits for 14 days when enter Thailand by flight?

    • September 8, 2016

If you wish to use the visa exemption or the bilateral agreement on entering Thailand, please know that you must provide a proof of exiting Thailand. If you cannot book a bus or train in advance, then you must book a flight out of Thailand.

    Hi
I am flying to other country (from Myanmar) through Bangkok and staying there for about 15-16 days or above and flying back to Myanmar through Bangkok again. To save the airfare, I chose self-transit and will have to stay few hours at the Bangkok airport. Since it’s a self-transit, I will have to get my luggage by passing through the immigration twice for the round-trip and my concern is whether it’ll be okay to enter the country twice in a month which is not even within 14 days. Or should I just get the Visa? By the way, I am a Myanmar citizen. Thanks.

    • August 31, 2016

Yes, you can do that. Each trip will be treated separately. Therefore, you will be given 14 days permit to stay on each trip.

Hello, my husband is a Myanmar passport holder, he has a unlimited residence permit for Germany. He will fly to Bangkok stay there for a few days and travel on to Myanmar, normally he always did it by the land boarder close to Kanchanaburi, but its not possible to book this trip in advance. So i guess he has to book a flight? My other question is, can he also get the 14 days if he arrive at Don Muaeng airport Bangkok? The last question is how can he proof the finance of 10.000 Bath (by bank account statement?) and does he have to book a accommodation for his stay in Thailand in advance and show the bill?

    • August 1, 2016

For Myanmar passport holders, they can enter Thailand without a visa for a maximum of 14 days as long as they enter through an International Airport. They must book a flight leaving Thailand ahead of time and show this to Thai immigration as well as proof of accommodation (like a hotel booking) and proof of finances. A bank statement may be submitted as proof.

I am a Myanmar national and had round trip tickets from Yangon to Bangkok. Air Asia would not let me pick up my tickets without showing 800 U.S. dollars this was for a 14 day ASEAN country tourist. I was out 7000 baht in airfare being they would not let me leave Myanmar without U.S. dollars. Please verify why a proof of dollars has to be shown.

    • June 15, 2016

You will need to discuss with Air Asia why they are requiring you to show 800 USD as we do not have information about this.

My myanmar friend is going with me in Thailand next week for 3 days and will come back later in the month. Is there any constraint if traveling several time within the 14 days in Thailand?

    • June 10, 2016

Normally, as long as you show proof that you are leaving the country before the 14-day visa exemption ends, you should not have any problems re-entering Thailand. However, it depends on the assessment of the immigration officer if you will be required to enter on a tourist visa.

Hi, I’m Myanmar passport holder and I want to visit Thailand for 14days free visa. So I will fly with airline and leave Thailand border in Kanchanaburi by bus? Should I have to show anything in Thai immigration police in the airport?

Can I leave Thailand in Kanchanaburi Phu Nom Rok border?

    Thank you.

You will need to provide proof of your exit from Thailand. If you don’t have a return ticket, you could also provide proof of your accommodation at your next destination to show that you will no longer be in Thailand before your entry stamp expires.

Hi, I am currently holding a Myanmar passport. I am just wondering what is that minimum currency limit for a family of 4. I have seen on a Thai embassy website (Israel) saying that you need 10,000 Bhat for a family and 5,000 for a single person. Does that also apply to Myanmar passport holder? Here’s the website I found http://www.thaiembassy.org/telaviv/en/services/685/17388-Entry-to-Thailand.html and it says “Minimum Currency Limit

    When Entering Thailand:

    1. Holders of a transit visa or those who enter Thailand without a visa are required to possess not less than the equivalent amount of 5,000 Baht per person or 10,000 Baht per family.

    2. Holders of a Tourist Visa — not less than the equivalent amount of 10,000 Baht per person or 20,000 Baht per family.

    3. Holders of a Non-immigrant Visa — not less than the equivalent amount of 10,000 Baht per person or 20,000 Baht per family.

The above requirements do not apply to minors under 12 years old.”

    • June 10, 2016

As specified above, it depends on the type of visa you are applying for. If you are entering Thailand based on tourism, #2 is applicable: at least 20,000THB per family.

During visa application, does she have to be there in person? Can an agent or myself do it for her?

Please, if you can give me some advice.

    • February 11, 2016

If your girlfriend is coming to Thailand before your marriage, she will be given 14 days entry stamp when she enters through an international airport. This is not available at any land border checkpoints. If she needs to stay in Thailand for more than 14 days, then she will need to apply for a visa prior to travelling. All visa applications must be done in person.

Once your marriage is processed legally, she may be allowed to apply for the non-immigrant O visa (based on marriage with a Thai spouse) considering that she also meets the financial requirement.

For a foreigner to get legally married in Thailand, he will need to obtain an affidavit of freedom to marry from his embassy in Thailand. The process in obtaining this document varies, depending on the nationality, and, therefore, it is best that you contact your embassy directly to verify your concern.

Your wife is entitled to a 14 days visa-free visit to Thailand under the Bilateral Agreement and therefore she will not need a visa if travelling within the allowed period.

    Hi,
I am working in Malaysia and my family will visit to Phuket by Air Aisa from KL on 6th February and back on 9th February. We are Myanmar citizens. We need to apply visa or if not to need, which documents needed for on arrival visa.

    Thank you very much.

You will not need to apply for a visa if you are travelling to Thailand for a period of 4 days only. Citizens of Myanmar are entitled to a visa-free visit to Thailand for up to 14 days under the Bilateral Agreement if travelling for tourism purpose only.

    Hi

My family and I are Singaporeans. We will be visiting Bangkok in Dec and will be travelling together with a friend from Myanmar who is currently residing in Singapore. Based on the information given in this website, does this mean our Myanmar friend does not need to apply for a Visa to visit Bangkok?

For your info, we will be flying to Bangkok via Singapore Airlines.

    Appreciate your kind advice.

    Thank you.

Yes. Citizens of Myanmar are now permitted to stay in Thailand for up to 14 days without a visa if entering via international airport.
