Top 20 Questions on Thailand Pass

I am an expat leaving Thailand for a short time and returning. Do I have to apply for Thailand Pass and Test & Go?

Yes. At this time, all people entering Thailand must apply for a Thailand Pass and follow Test & Go requirements if they are fully vaccinated. This includes having the required entry requirements such as insurance, SHA+ hotel booking, RT-PCR test, and Thailand Pass approval.

I am an expat returning to Thailand. Can I quarantine at home instead of a hotel?

No. No matter what visa you hold in Thailand, you must follow the Test & Go entry requirements. You must spend 1 night in a SHA+ quarantine hotel while waiting for your RT-PCR test result.

Have the April 1 changes to pre-departure RT-PCR testing come into effect?

Yes. Pre-departure RT-PCR tests are no longer required when entering Thailand.

Has the April 1 change come into effect for the Sandbox scheme?

Yes. The Sandbox scheme now requires only 5 nights of quarantine in the Sandbox designated area. Visitors must now do 1 x RT-PCR test and 1 x ATK test on day 5 instead of 2 x RT-PCR tests. The Test & Go program is a better option for those who are fully vaccinated.

Have the April 1 changes come into effect for the un-vaccinated Alternate Quarantine scheme?

Yes. The Alternate Quarantine timeframe has been reduced from 10 nights to 5 nights. You still need to have 2 x RT-PCR tests during this time. The tests will be taken on Day 1 and on Day 4 or 5.

I booked a 10-day Alternate Quarantine package but I am arriving after April 1. What should I do with the new changes?

You may contact your hotel. If you have not arrived in Thailand before April 1, you are eligible for the updated 5-day Alternate Quarantine scheme. Your hotel will advise what options are available to you.

Do I need to print my Thailand Pass documents for when I arrive at Passport Control in Thailand?

Yes. It is the best practice as you will present these documents to Immigration and Health Officers at the airport Passport and Health Control.

If you only have digital copies and something happens to your electronic device, you will not be allowed to enter the country.

How do I present my Thailand Pass QR code if my mobile phone is not working?

You should print a hard copy of your Thailand Pass QR code. If your mobile device does not work in Thailand, you can still present the QR code to Immigration and Health Officers at the airport Passport and Health Control.

Can I upload my Thailand Pass QR code to the MorChana App before I arrive in Thailand?

No. You can download the MorChana App before arriving in Thailand, but it will not allow uploads until you arrive in the country. You may ask your SHA+ hotel staff to assist you on how to navigate the app.

If I land in Phuket with the correct insurance, my SHA+ hotel, airport transfer, and separate RT-PCR tests booked, can I apply for Test & Go?

Yes. The above requirements are required to apply for Test & Go and Thailand Pass. You will also need to be vaccinated to apply for Test & Go.

Have the April 1 changes affected domestic flights in Thailand?

No. When landing in Thailand, domestic flights on arrival must still be approved “sealed” flights. Please check with Thai Airways and Bangkok Airways for the new list of sealed flights to Phuket and Samui.

Can I do my Test & Go quarantine in Pattaya?

Yes. If you land in Bangkok you can organize Test & Go quarantine in Pattaya. Your SHA+ hotel must provide transport from Bangkok airport to the hotel.

If your flight lands directly at Pattaya airport you will do your RT-PCR test at the airport and then be transported to your hotel.

Are international flights landing in Pattaya?

There are flights now landing directly at Pattaya U-tapao International Airport. Check with your airline provider for available direct flights.

Can I take a domestic flight from Bangkok to Pattaya for Test & Go quarantine?

Only if the flight is an approved “sealed” flight. This should be booked as part of your international flight itinerary.

If you book separate domestic flights, you are required to quarantine for 1 night in Bangkok before traveling to Pattaya.

What SHA+/AQ hotels are available in Pattaya?

You can find the latest information for SHA+/AQ hotels in Pattaya at Agoda.

Why is my US credit card being rejected when trying to book my RT-PCR test?

There is an issue with www.thailandpsas.com approving transactions with American credit cards. You can contact your hotel and they will organize the RT-PCR test booking for you.

I am trying to book hotel transport in Phuket with an American credit card and it is rejected. What can I do?

Transport from the airport to your hotel should be included in your SHA+ quarantine package. If there is an issue booking your hotel with an American credit card, try a different card or purchase through PayPal.

My hotel in Phuket does not offer transport from the hotel. What should I do?

Any SHA+/AQ hotel should include transport from the airport to their hotel. If they do not offer this service, it is best to look at different hotels because you cannot organize private transport.

Where can I see if hotel transfer is included in Phuket when looking at Agoda?

Many Phuket hotels do not list Airport Transfer on their front page. Click into the hotel and look at the bottom left corner of the details page. Airport transfer will be listed here under services offered.

How do I book a private transfer from the airport to a hotel in Phuket?

You cannot. Transfer from Phuket airport to your hotel must be provided by the hotel so it meets all Covid safety measures.

COVID-19 Thailand Visa Amnesty/Extension

What is a visa amnesty or COVID extension?

It is the visa relief or 60-day visa extension for all foreign nationals staying in Thailand affected by the COVID-19 crisis. Foreigners can apply for a COVID extension at any immigration office until March 25, 2022.

Who are covered by the visa amnesty or COVID extension?

All foreign nationals who are legally staying in Thailand whether you are here on visa exemption entry stamps and tourist visas. The holders of non-immigrant visas, or yearly extension of stays are not eligible for the COVID extension.

What are the current implementing rules regarding the visa amnesty or COVID extension?

  • Visas or permits to stay that are still valid and updated by the local Thai immigration office.
  • Foreigners holding a long-term visa such as a working visa, marriage visa, or retirement are required to apply for their yearly extension at the Thai immigration office as usual.
  • Foreigners do not need any embassy letter to be granted the automatic visa extension due to COVID-19.

Is the COVID-19 visa extension free of charge?

The COVID-19 extension of the visa costs 1,900 Thai baht.

Will the visa amnesty be extended?

The validity of the visa amnesty is until March 25, 2022 only. There is no indication that this visa amnesty or grace period will be extended.

What will happen when the visa amnesty is lifted or not extended anymore?

When the situation is resolved and returns to normal, foreigners must leave Thailand on or before the permit to stay date in their passports or they must apply for the proper another type of visa at the immigration office.

90-Day Reporting

If you are a foreigner staying in Thailand for a period longer than 90 consecutive days holding a Non-Immigrant Visa or Extension of Stay, you are required by Thai Immigration to report your current address every 90 days. You may file for the TM47 notification in person, by mail, online, or by an agent. Please check this page: https://www.thaiembassy.com/thailand/90-day-reporting-immigration.php

Consequences of Visa Overstay

During this COVID-19 crisis in Thailand, some foreign nationals may find themselves overstaying in Thailand, do so by mistake, by miscalculating the length of their stay, forgetting their visa expiration date, or by unforeseen cancellation of their flights due to travel restrictions. As a traveler, you should strongly avoid overstaying in Thailand, but if you do find yourself in Thailand on an expired visa it is very important that you act fast and in the right way. Please check this page to learn more of the consequences of overstaying in Thailand: https://www.thaiembassy.com/thailand/overstay-visa-thailand.php

Frequently Asked Questions

To extend a tourist visa, do I need to visit the Thai immigration office in person? I do not want to go to crowded areas at risk of COVID-19 infection.

Yes, there have been no changes regarding the visa extension application whether it is your first time to extend or the second time to extend. The application is still done in person. Thai immigration offices are practicing different measures such as social distancing and disinfecting the area to make sure that the applicants are not at risk of contracting the COVID-19. You might want to see if your local Thai immigration is open on Saturdays. That is a less crowded day of the week to visit the immigration office.

I have tried online reporting and reporting through a mobile app, both attempts failed. What are my other options?

If the online and mobile app reporting does not work, you need to do the reporting by yourself or you can ask a visa agent or third party to do the 90-day address reporting. You need to provide a power of attorney and the 90-day reporting documents such as the original and copy of the passport. There is no immigration fee for address reporting.

Is it required by law to wear a face mask?

The emergency decree issued by the Thai Government that came into effect recommends everyone wear a face mask when they are outside of their residence. However, some provinces such as Phuket have their own rule and you will be subject to a penalty. In Bangkok, commuters are required to wear a face mask when using public transportation and while in public places.

Should I carry my passport at all times?

Yes. If you are a foreigner and you will be out of your residence or hotel, you need to carry your passport especially right now that there are random checks to check the visa validity. It is also good to know that there are banks that would not allow you to enter the premises if you have traveled recently abroad, so it is best to have your passport with you at all times.

I am aware of the entry requirements for foreigners entering Thailand, is there special consideration for those traveling with my Thai family or visiting my Thai family?

At the moment, you can enter Thailand. You just have to make sure that you have obtained a Thailand Pass, purchased COVID-19 Insurance, had a COVID-19 test and you will undergo a mandatory Test and Go or ASQ quarantine.

I have a Non-Immigrant B visa and work permit expiring on April 24, due to my country’s travel restriction I cannot return to Thailand to renew it. What are my options?

If your country does not allow you to travel to Thailand or if your country of departure is under the travel ban, I regret to inform you that there is nothing you are able to do. It is not possible to renew it while you are outside Thailand and it is also not possible to renew it at the Thai embassy in your country. Should your visa and work permit expire while you are outside Thailand, you need to apply for a new non-immigrant B visa for you to enter Thailand and after you have entered Thailand, you can apply for a new work permit.

When do I need the embassy letter for the COVID-19 visa extension?

As of writing, the embassy letter is no longer required by the immigration office to receive the 60-day COVID-19 extensions.

I am looking for flights from Laos to Europe and this requires me to transit in Thailand. Do I need a Health Certificate when transiting? There are multiple different articles including the one on Thai Airways stating that a Health Certificate is required for transiting passengers.

As of writing, international passengers including transiting passengers are required to present a COVID-19 health certificate and negative COVID test result. If you are affected by this travel requirement, you may opt to postpone your travel or you may opt to book a flight that will not transit through Thailand. For the latest update, it is best to contact your airline.

I am a US citizen traveling from the US to Thailand via Hong Kong, am I subject to mandatory quarantine?

No, the mandatory quarantine is not required for any foreigner and Thai travelers entering Thailand via Hong Kong if you are fully vaccinated. You may apply for Thailand Pass under the Test and Go program. The mandatory 10-day quarantine is only required for unvaccinated travelers from any country.

I’m a French national. I have 60 days tourist visa, which is ending soon, but due to COVID-19, I am kind of reluctant to travel back to France. Is there any way that I can extend my visa for another 30 days?

Yes, any nationality holding a 60-day tourist visa entry stamp can extend for 30 days at the local immigration office. For the extension, you just have to submit one passport-size photo (4cm x 6cm) with white background, TM6 card, TM30 receipt from your hotel, and pay the fee of 1,900 Thai baht.

I am British and I entered Thailand on holiday on March 3 and am scheduled to leave on April 1. If my flight is canceled due to COVID-19, I may be forced to overstay my 30 days permit to stay until I have a rescheduled flight. Is this ok? If not, what should I do?

You are able to extend this 30-day visa exemption stamp for another 30 days at the local Thai immigration office. For the extension, you just have to submit one passport-size photo (4cm x 6cm) with white background, TM6 card, TM30 receipt from your hotel, and pay the fee of 1,900 Thai baht.

I am an American and I have a 30-day visa exemption that I extended for an extra 30 days. My current extension will expire on April 1, 2021. What are my options to stay in Thailand due to the travel restriction in other countries?

You have two options: 1.) You can extend your current extension for 30 days at your local immigration office. 2.) You can request a COVID-19 extension and you will be given a 60 days extension at your local Thai immigration office.

I have a non-immigrant O visa for having a Thai wife. It is a single entry visa. My 90-day entry stamp will expire in April and the money in my account has not seasoned yet for 2 months. What can I do?

Since you are legally married to a Thai national, you can apply for a 60-day extension for having a Thai wife. This extension will give you enough time for your funds to season for 2 months. After your funds have seasoned for 2 months, you may apply for a 1-year extension or marriage visa.

My work permit and my visa will expire by the end of the month. Due to the current COVID-19 situation, I am not able to return to my country. What are my options?

Since your visa and your work permit will expire, your only option for an extension of your stay in Thailand is to file for the 60-day COVID extension. You may apply for this extension on the last day of your permit to stay.

I am flying from the USA to Thailand via Hong Kong. Do I still need to present a health certificate and travel insurance?

At the moment, passengers entering Thailand need to obtain the Thailand Pass, purchase a COVID-19 insurance, book Test and Go Hotel for 1 night, or an ASQ Hotel for the 10-day quarantine (if not vaccinated), and obtain a COVID-19 medical certificate.

Can anyone advise what to do regarding my Non-B visa? My Non-B expired on 4th March. I have to pay a fine of 500 baht per day for overstay. The borders around Thailand are closed for me to renew it. I have requested a 30-day extension but was refused. They need my new contract for the new year. This is costing me an arm and a leg. What are my solutions?

The best solution for this is to avoid overstaying so that you will not get in trouble in the future. If you do not have a new contract from the school it is imperative for you to return to your home country until you have a new contract and apply for a new visa from the Thai embassy there. Once you have secured a new non-immigrant B visa, you may return to Thailand together with a copy of the health certificate and health insurance. Another option is to request a COVID extension while you are preparing the documents for your non-immigrant B visa. Some immigration offices are now issuing non-immigrant B visas.

I am a U.S. citizen. I arrived in Bangkok last March 9. My flight to Manila has been canceled on April 8. I am in Pattaya. Do I need a US embassy letter to extend my 45-day Travel Visa? Or can I just go to the Thai Immigration office in Pattaya to get an extension due to COVID-19?

No, you do not need an embassy letter at this time. Your current 45-day visa exemption stamp can be extended for an additional 30 days. For the extension, you just have to submit one passport size photo (4cm x 6cm) with white background, TM6 card, TM30 receipt from your hotel and pay the fee of 1,900 Thai baht.

      Good morning,

So I came into Thailand at the beginning of March with a non-b single entry visa (90 days) from the Thai embassy in KL.

It is due to expire on the 31st of May. Although I decided at this point in time to fly back to my country on the 18th of April. I haven’t got the 1 year extension yet from my company, although I did receive the work permit.

So my question is, do I need to cancel the visa before leaving or I can just leave Thailand without any previous actions?

      Thanks in advance,
      J

    • April 8, 2020

Since the visa was not issued inside Thailand, it is not necessary for you to cancel your 90-day entry stamp before leaving Thailand.

You may apply for the ED visa from the Thai embassy before you travel to Thailand. Please do not travel or make travel plans until you have secure the Non Immigrant ED visa from the Thai embassy.

Hi, thank you so much for your response! To my original question, would I need to visit the immigration out on Chaengwattana to do this process? For the 60 day extension would I need a letter from the US embassy or just go to immigration and fill out forms? Thank you again!

Q:Hi. Im am an American currently living in Bangkok,Thailand with my wife (Thai National) and 1 year old baby (American/Thai National). We have been living here for the past year now. I am currently on a “ED” visa which expires on April 24th and will be switching to a non “O” visa so we can get the Marriage Visa. With all the restrictions now in place where can I go outside of Thailand to receive the non “O” visa and come back to Thailand with no issues? Is there anyway to do this in Thailand now? I have the paper work done and the appropriate amount of money needed to be in the bank. Please help! Thank you!

A”non-immigrant O visa. If you reside in Bangkok, it may be possible to change from non-immigrant ED visa into Non immigrant O visa. If the immigration officer will not do this change of visa, you have an option to apply for a temporary 60-day extension for having Thai wife or 30-day extension based on embassy letter. These possible extensions will give you time while waiting for the borders to open and you can apply for the non-immigrant O visa.

    • April 7, 2020

Yes, you and your wife needs to visit the Thai Immigration Office. Right now, the Thai Immigration has not issued visa amnesty or visa leniency just yet. The operation at the immigration office is business as usual despite the risk of infection of the COVID-19.

If you have exhausted all possible option for extensions, please contact your embassy or consulate in Thailand to provide a letter stating that you are affected by the current COVID-19 crisis and that your flights has been canceled. The embassy will request the immigration office to extend your stay for another 30 days. It is highly recommended for you to check with the local immigration office for the additional requirements since every city or province may have different rules and regulations.

    Hello Rex,

    Appreciate if you could assist 2 of my questions below;

I am an Indian national hold a work permit and visa from BOI as a director and shareholder of my company that is certified by the Board of Investment Thailand.

I would like to fly back into Thailand, and can also get the fit to fly certificate as advised by the Thai Government but, unfortunately all the flights to Thailand has been cancelled and I am not able to fly back due to COVID-19 lockdown.

    1. What should I do?

My non B along with my work permit is due to expires on the 2nd of May 2020.

I exited Thailand on March 1st on work related project and was due to return back to Thailand after finishing my project on the 23rd of March. But due to the COVID-19 situation as you may know the Philippines government ordered a lockdown and the airports are shut too there are currently no flights flying, the next flight information is not available as they are unsure when the lockdown will be removed.

    2. What would be your advice, and how can I renew my non B Visa and work permit on time, during this COVID-19 situation and if I still stuck in Philippines and unable to fly.

Looking forward to your assistance and reply in this regards

    Stay Safe

    • April 7, 2020

Your visa and work permit can only be extended or renewed in Thailand. As of today, you may be able to return to Thailand starting April 19th given that you have the visa, work permit, fit to fly certificate.

    • Jimmie
      April 7, 2020

I have read the advisory that between 19th and 30th of April, expats with valid work permit and Visa can enter Thailand with fit to fly certificate.

However, yesterday April 6th the Philippines government has extended lockdown until the 30th of April and airport will remain closed and all flights cancelled.

      What would be your advice?

    • April 7, 2020

I think your problem is the flight leaving the Philippines. It is best for you to contact your airline that will fly out of the Philippines. As far as Thailand is concerned, it is possible for flights to land in Thailand between April 19th and 30th.

      April 7, 2020

      Thanks Rex,

That seems to be the challenging part
As the Philippines airports are closed and no flights until the 1st of May.

What happens if the advisory from the government doesn’t alter and I am unable to flying, due to this situation between 19th and 30th of April?

    • April 7, 2020

If the Philippine government does not allow flights to leave the Philippines, you have no choice but to stay in the Philippines. If your visa or work permit expires in May 2020, then it would mean you have to redo the Thai visa and work permit process from the start.

firstly thanks for patiently answering all questions.

I moved here on the 16th March on a business entry visa and now converted to a two year work permit. My wife got her spouse visa processed but before she could travel our country India went into lock down. Just wanted to check if once flights resume from India in April will she be able to come to Thailand before the 30th April on a spouse visa and what documents does she need ?

    • April 7, 2020

No, she cannot enter Thailand before April 30th because she does not have a work permit. She needs to wait until the travel ban is lifted or if the travel ban is modified and will allow the family members of the work permit holders to return to Thailand.

Is the new rule about needing 100 000 $ worth health insurance to enter Thailand a permanent rule that will last forever or is it only temporary during the corona virus? Will this rule be removed after the corona pandemic is over?

    • April 7, 2020

The health insurance requirement is not applicable anymore because Thailand has banned foreigners from entering Thailand until further notice.

I’m a US citizen who has been working in Chiang Mai, Thailand for over one year. I had three weeks off at the beginning of March. I went to Nepal and since my flight was cancelled. I have been stuck in Kathmandu for almost 2 weeks. Will I be able to enter Thailand on April 17 to Bangkok? Will I be able to self-quarantine in my own apartment or do I need stay in a government facility upon arrival?

    • April 7, 2020

All incoming flights are grounded until April 18th. You can come back to Thailand after that date if you have a work permit and fit to fly certificate.

HI there, I am in Phuket. Currently holding a Multiple entry non O visa which will expire in a couple weeks. I am legally married to a Thai wife. If I am unable to leave before my 90 days are up, can I apply for a 60 days extension based on Thai wife? This is a multiple entry Non O, not single entry.

    Thank you

    • April 7, 2020

Yes, you can apply for a temporary 60-day extension on top of your 90-day entry stamp. You will do it at the Phuket Immigration office. Please check this page for updates: http://www.phuketimmigration.go.th/main.php

Can he come via Tourist VISA on May in Thailand? Thank you 🙂

    • April 7, 2020

Yes, your friend can come to Thailand as tourist to get his personal belongings. He can do that when Thailand lifted the travel ban or restrictions. Right now, travel ban is effective until April 30, but it might be extended.

    Dear Sir, Madam

I am having a NON B Business visa, and re-entry permit valid till 12 May 2020, and my Thai work permit is valid till 12 Feb 2021, Currently I am out side Thailand and want to enter Thailand on 1 May 2020 to return to my work in Bangkok.
Hence if the ban still active or under any circumstances no flight from my origin country Yemen can fly because Yemen ariports are closed till 30 April 2020 for Covid-19.

Here I would like to ask, if my visa expire with me falling to enter Thailand , What shall I do? Is it possible to enter Thailand with my valid work permit? Or shall I apply for new Visa.

    Thanks for your response,

    • April 8, 2020

If you are unable to return to Thailand before May 12, you must obtain a new Non Immigrant B visa from Yemen before you travel back to Thailand. The work permit will still be valid but you need to have a new Non Immigrant B visa.

Please give me informtion on these. Thank you

    • April 7, 2020

If you have a valid non immigrant B visa and work permit, you are able to enter Thailand starting April 19th. What you need a only fit-to-fly certificate. You need to call Thai embassy in Manila for more information.

First of all I want to thank you all agents for answering volumes of queries.

I have a valid non b visa with a written permit: If I come back to Thailand after the 15th of April, must I bring along an insurance of 100000$ and covid test result? Can I also bring my family along on a non o visa or would only I holding a work permit could enter Thailand? Let’s say if I plan my travel in May, will that require less documents from me like insurance, covid test result?

Thank you for your time and cooperation.

    • April 7, 2020

If you travel between April 18th and 30, only the foreigner with Non immigrant B visa and work permit is allowed to enter Thailand. Your family may be refused entry since they are not work permit holders. I recommend for them to travel after April 30th. As for the documents that you need, you only need the fit-to-fly certificate. Please contact the local Thai embassy in your area or country for more updated information.

Hello, I am a french citizen who arrived in Thailand on February 11th. I am working in China but because of the situation with Covid-19 I have been enable to return to China or France. So I already extended my 60 days (exemption) stay, to another 30 days that will expired on April 29th, 2020. So I think I will reach the 90 days. Since, China banned foreigners to come back, and all flights was suspended/cancelled to France, can I extend again to stay in Thailand as I don’t see any other option of my situation and I don’t want to overstay?

Thanks in advance for your reply.

    • April 7, 2020

If you have exhausted all possible option for extensions, please contact your embassy or consulate in Thailand to provide a letter stating that you are affected by the current COVID-19 crisis and that your flights has been canceled. The embassy will request the immigration office to extend your stay for another 30 days. It is highly recommended for you to check with the local immigration office for the additional requirements since every city or province may have different rules and regulations.

Thanks for your answer. I am actually based in Bangkok. I was checking the COVID-19 Thailand Visa Amnesty/Extension. i don’t know if it’s apply to my case, as it’s renew the extension for people that the visa expired from march 26th to 30th of April. However my visa expired on April 29th, so i might still have to go to the New building of Immigration service ( Central Investigation Bureau at Muang Thong Thani ) Counter K, with a letter from my embassy, a proof of stay (hotel receipt) and also do the report as I will be here for 90 days?

      Thanks.

    • April 10, 2020

You are still covered by the amnesty. Your stay is automatically extended until April 30. It does not really make much of difference since your stay is until April 29. If the government extends the emergency decree, then the amnesty is also automatically extended.

    • Fabien
      April 10, 2020

Thanks for the fast reply. So I cannot go to immigration to extend as my last extension ended on 29th of April. I have to wait to see if the decree is renewed and if not, be ready to extend it again to the immigration.

    • April 10, 2020

You can go to the immigration on April 28 or 29 and apply for the extension at your own risk. However, if you are afraid to contract COVID-19 in crowded places like immigration office, you can just wait for the announcement if the visa amnesty will be extended.

    Hi there,
I’m Australian married to a Thai wife and based in Thailand on a 12 month non-immigrant ‘O’ visa living as a family with our son.
My visa is multi entry ’90 day’ and its ok till mid May when normally I’d exit and simply re-enter Thailand. Given the situation at the moment, what are my options for getting the 90 day stamp normally given at the airport or land border if indeed the situation in May is still as it is at the moment.
My multi entry visa is current till Nov 10th, the only problem I’ve got is the 90 day stamps. Any information you have would be greatly appreciated.
    Many thanks.

    Dear,

Now because of the Covid crissis it is for the time being prohibited as a foreigner to enter Thailand. After April 16, my wife and son can enter Thailand (Thai nationality). Because we immigrated to Thailand, we have already sold our house here in Belgium. We must vacate our home by May 15. Is there a possibility that I can travel with my wife and son to Thailand. I have a Non-Immigrant Visa “O-A” (Long Stay). Or should I be left alone in Belgium.

    Thanks in advance,

Right now, we are not sure if it will be extended. Russian passport holder cannot get a normal 30-day extension because you are in Thailand under bilateral agreement stamp only. You can only get an extension due to COVID-19. I believe you have the “under consideration” stamp already. You must report to the immigration office on the date specified in your passport.

    • April 3, 2020

The company or the agent has 3 months to prepare the paperwork for the visa extension. As soon as your son entered Thailand and obtained the work permit, the agent is aware that the paperwork for the extension should be prepared. Unfortunately there is no extension or grace period that you can obtain in order to give the agent time to prepare the documents. You need to extend for 1 year or your son extended for 7 days and leave Thailand.

What is the reason for the 21 day return instead of the 30 that is said to be given during this world wide crisis?

    • April 3, 2020

This stamp is correct. Your “under consideration” stamp was given to you so that when you return to the immigration office, depending on the situation at that time, the officer may give you the remaining 10 days or the officer may give you a longer stay. When you return on April 21, there is no fee to be paid.

    • April 3, 2020

Yes, you can use these documents to enter Thailand. However, please note that no one, Thai or foreigner, is allowed to enter Thailand until April 15th. The reason for this is that Thailand is building a facility for mass quaratine for travelers which will take time to prepare. After that, Thais and foreigner with work permit holding the fit-to-fly documents can enter April 16th onward.

What happens if i over stay 2 days? And there is no easy way to get 2 days more? ( Even if in normal times i would still have 60 days if i do a border run)

You have 2 options: first option, you can go to the immigration office and file for an extension. The extension is good for additional 30 days stay and it will cost you 1900 Thai baht. The second option is to overstay your visa and you will pay 1,000 Thai baht at the airport as you leave Thailand.

I entered Thailand using an international passport at Sadao (Dannok) border. I am allowed to stay for 30 days until 13APR2020. I am staying at a Thai friend’s house. He told me, after checking with the Immigration Dept in Hat Yai, that I can extend my stay for another 30 days before my passport stamp expires and I have pay BHT$1,900. Is that correct?

My friend said he must declare/inform the Immigration that I am staying at his house or he would be fined.

    • April 3, 2020

Yes, your friend is correct. You are able to extend for another 30 days at the local immigration office. For the extension, you just have to submit one passport size photo (4cm x 6cm) with white background, TM6 departure card, TM30 receipt from your hotel or accommodation and pay the fee of 1,900 Thai baht.

I was very LUCKY. I went to Immigration Hat Yai on 9-APR and the officers said announcement has been made that my stay is automatically extended until 30-APR. If I were to go renewing my passport yesterday, then I would have wasted 1900 Baht.

    • April 9, 2020

Yes that is correct. The visa amnesty was enacted on April 7th but it was published on the Royal Gazette yesterday April 8, making it effective today April 9th.

    Good day,

We are South-African nationals residing in Macau.
I believe foreigners are not permitted to enter Thailand until 30 April 2020.

However, is it possible to transit through Thailand during the month of April?
If so, are we required to provide any medical documentation and what is the maximum transit time we have at the airport?

The reason for asking is, our flight from Macau is scheduled for the evening of 14 April 2020 and the next flight is only on 16 April 2020. Please clarify.

    Thank you!

    • April 2, 2020

Starting April 1, international transit passengers are no longer allowed in Thailand.

I’m a Polish national with Non- immigrant visa type B. My visa will expire on 13th April and I can’t fly to my next destination which is Malaysia because of the closed borders. I also can’t come back to my country. What are my options? Do I have to extend my working visa or I can apply for tourist visa? My contract here will be over on 13th april too.

    • April 7, 2020

You can cancel your visa on April 13th and on the same day, you apply for the 30-day extension. Please contact your embassy or consulate in Thailand to provide a letter stating that you are affected by the current COVID-19 crisis and that your flights has been canceled. The embassy will request the immigration office to extend your stay for another 30 days. It is highly recommended for you to check with the local immigration office for the additional requirements since every city or province may have different rules and regulations.

Hi. Thank you!

    • April 2, 2020

Right now, there is no country you can go to nearby Thailand to get a non-immigrant O visa.

Right now, visa application is done in person at the local immigration office. If you have an embassy letter for a 30-day extension you need to apply in person or you may ask your local immigration if can use an agent to apply on your behalf.

    Hi,

I’m an Australian citizen on a 60-day tourist visa which will expire on the 15th.

I have moved from hotel to apartment since I arrive Bangkok. As for TM30 form, my landlord didn’t ask me for the form when I moved in, is it too late to ask him to fill in the form now, before I apply for the extension or should I just pay the 800 baht fine?

Is TM 7 form required to apply for the extension?

Should I go to the new location in Muangthong Thaini directly on the day?

    Thanks!

    • April 2, 2020

Yes, TM7 is required since it is the application form for visa extension. If your landlord did not report the TM30 notification, you may just pay the penalty of 800 Thai baht. Please bring a copy of the lease agreement on the date of visa application. At this time, visa application for 30-day extension of a tourist visa is located at Muang Thong Thani satellite office of immigration bureau.

No, you do not need to apply for extension right now. Your special entry stamp is valid for 90 days permit to stay. If you need to extend it, you can extend for 7 days only. It is recommended to do the extension on May 4th.

I was planning to go to Thailand to renew it as there is no consulate of my country here but was delayed due to visa processing and now that I finally have my passport back there is COVID-19. I wonder if there is any chance to travel to Thailand in the unfortunate (but likely) event that borders remain closed past my six month validity, perhaps by obtaining some kind of letter from my country’s consulate stating that I plan to renew the passport? In normal circumstances I can stay in Thailand for 90 days without visa.

    • April 1, 2020

Yes, it is possible for you to obtain a re-entry permit. It will be approved. However, that re-entry permit has a validity the same as your permit to stay stamp. If you have a stamp valid until end of May, the re-entry permit and length of stay is also end of May. So if you leave the country and return in the beginning of May, that is possible. You may have to check with your airline for the other requirements for you to return to Thailand in case the travel ban is extended.

It cost 1900 baht for the extension and i’m not sure if they made a mistake or if i should enquire about this at immigration (Based in Chiang Mai).

It seems unusual for you to be working in a school and your have to do a visa extension for 3 months. The extension is usually valid for 1 year. If you are referring to the 90-day reporting, you can do it in person, by an agent, by mail or through mobile app. Failure to do the 90-day reporting would incur a penalty of 2,000 Thai baht. If you are referring to a visa extension, you need to contact the school about it.

My wife and I are US citizens in Bangkok on a 30-day tourist visa valid till April 03. In order to get a 30-day extension the present rules call for a personal appearance at the Immigration office.

Its so crowded there with people in close proximity. We are over 65, considered at-risk persons and have stayed inside our apartment since March 20. It will be nigh impossible to hold the Thai government responsible if either of us contract the virus when venturing out to the Immigration office.

The government put up an online portal providing monetary assistance to citizens rather quick so why don’t they offer the tourist visa extension application and payment portal online?

I thank you for reading this and perhaps getting a satisfying answer allowing us and thousands others to remain indoors and apply online.

Right now, if the online portal for the 90-day reporting does not work, your options are to do the reporting in person or by a third party or agent. Failure to do the 90-day reporting will incur a penalty of 2,000 Thai baht.

For Indian Nationality, due to Covid19 outbreak is it possible to apply for a new Non B visa from the Thai Embassy or Thai Immigration in Bangkok. Since, it’s not possible to go back to India and apply for new Non B Visa.
    Please clarify.

    • March 31, 2020

No, it is not possible to obtain the Non-Immigrant B visa in Thailand. If you are newly employed and you are currently on a tourist visa, you must fly back to India and apply for the Non-Immigrant B visa at the Thai Embassy. After you have the new non-immigrant B visa, you may travel back to Thailand provided that the travel ban has been lifted at that time.

Can we get 60 days extension of her visa as well. Please advise.
    Thanks in Advance

You are able to extend for another 30 days at the local immigration office. For the extension, you just have to submit one passport size photo (4cm x 6cm) with white background, TM6 departure card, TM30 receipt from your hotel or private accommodation and pay the fee of 1,900 Thai baht.

Good morning, I have just returned to the UK after working in Oman for the past 5weeks, I have a property in Thailand where I have been living for the past year, but was unable to fly back to Thailand due to the traveling restrictions. My sister who is over 60 has Ben living in Phuket for the past 12 years, she is currently undoing cancer treatment and is living alone, I was taking care of her when I was in Thailand, but now I cannot travel back as the flights are Thai nationals only, I am very worried that she is on her own and high risk due to her cancer treatments, is there any way I can travel to Phuket?

    • At the moment, you are unable to enter Thailand due to a travel ban which is effective until April 30. You may contact a caregiver to assist your sister while you are away.

I’m currently on an ED Visa that is due to be extended on April 6th. I’m registered through the Chiang Mai office but came to studying in their Rayong campus during March because of pollution in Chiang Mai. I also have my son on a follow me visa.

I’m currently on hold for 3 hours trying to call this number +66021419889 to work out a solution. I cannot get flights back to Australia, I can’t get back to Chiang Mai without a very high risk of COVID-19 (especially with a 4yo son).

I’m also supposed to need a Notarised copy of my son’s birth certificate from The Australian Embassy but I can’t get to Bangkok to get that. I can’t get to Chiang Mai to collect my documents to renew my visa there. What are my options?

    • You need to contact your school to arrange your visa extension. You need to renew your visa on the same immigration office that issued your visa. If you are unable to travel to Chiang Mai, the school must contact the Chiang Mai immigration office to make a special arrangement for you.

Hello! For extension of a 60-day tourist visa for foreigners, what docs should I apply to Thai Immigration? Besides, in case my landlord did not file TM30 before, can I pay a fine at the Immigration office and show a scanned or electronic copy of my lease agreement?

Addressing my question here, since the immigration Division 1 does not pick up the phone by number 021419889 and hotline 1178.

    • For the extension, you just have to submit one passport size photo (4cm x 6cm) with white background, TM6 departure card, TM30 receipt from your hotel and pay the fee of 1,900 Thai baht. If TM30 notification receipt is unavailable, you may pay 800 THB penalty.

    Good morning,

I asked the TM.30 notification to my Appart – Hotel in Pattaya and they said that a certificate is usually enough. They tried to ring the immigration office in Jomtien to find out how to get this form for me, but the line was busy.

They asked me to email you, so, I am doing it. Thank you for your answer again.

    • If the hotel has made the proper TM30 reporting, they should have a screenshot or proof of reporting. If the reporting was not done properly, you can just pay for the penalty of 800 THB and bring a letter confirming that you are staying in that hotel or apartment.

I’ve lived in Thailand since 2004. I use the Multi-Entry O Visa; which is issued by the Royal Thai Embassy in London subject to the presentation of my DWP pension statement and payment of 150pounds.
My current visa expires on 27th May 2020 and I am currently scheduled to travel on 7th May to the UK to renew this visa.
For obvious reasons I would prefer not to take this trip; in addition, I stay at my daughter’s house. I would have to self-quarantine with a grandson who has had a liver and kidney transplant and is considered in the highest risk category for virus infections. My presence would be unwelcome. Would it be possible to renew this visa here in Thailand this year?

    • It is not possible to renew the same visa in Thailand. What you can do in Thailand is to convert your non-immigrant O visa into a retirement visa. You need to have 800,000 THB savings in a Thai bank account in order to get the visa.

My local immigration office in Phetchabun has asked for an email from you the Thai Embassy clearly stating I can go to their local immigration rather than Bangkok to get my standard 30-day visa extension. Are you able to provide this, please? Thank you

    • If you have a proof of accommodation with TM30 notification in Phetchabun, then you should be able to apply for the 30-day extension in Phetchabun Province.

Because now Malaysia was in the Movement Control Order period. That is not easy to go back to Thailand with any Transport, please advise.

    • At the moment, Thai citizens may still travel to Thailand as long as you have the “fit-to-fly” certificate issued by the Thai Embassy in Kuala Lumpur or consulates in Malaysia.

Hi, I have been working in Bangkok for the last 3 years, I resigned from my company on 1st March 2020 and I was supposed to fly to Berlin, Germany for work on 30th March 2020. But Unfortunately due to the COVID-19 situation in Germany my flight is canceled. So, My work visa was supposed to expire on 6th April 2020. To be precautious I got 30 days extension which I got till 24th April 2020. My home country is India and there is no flight to India as well and the situation doesn’t seem to improve. So could you please tell me what should I do if there is no flight to India or Germany by 24th April 2020? Will I need to request a Visa extension letter from the embassy again or I can go directly to the Immigration office if the Thai Govt doesn’t take any actions for expats like us?

    • If you have used the embassy letter for a 30-day extension, you need to check with your local immigration office if you can extend for another 30 days. You may also contact your embassy in Thailand to repatriate you back to your home country.

    Dear Sirs,

I am currently in Thailand and was looking into getting a 30-day visa extension during the Covid19 outbreak. The official stamp for my METV from the Thai Embassy expires on the 8th of April, but I was given a re-entry stamp when I last exited dated Thailand I am admitted until the 14th of May. Does the 8th April stamp, issued in my passport originally by the Thai Embassy in London supersede the re-entry stamp date? Meaning I would have to apply for a 30-day extension on or before the 8th of April, or can I apply for a 30-day extension on or before the 14th of May? Thank you.

    • You will follow the May 14th entry stamp. In the first week of May 2020, you can apply for the normal 30-day tourist visa extension. For the extension, you just have to submit one passport size photo (4cm x 6cm) with white background, TM6 departure card, TM30 receipt from your hotel and pay the fee of 1,900 Thai baht.

Hi, I am a Thai National with Dr’s appointment tomorrow, April 3rd, to obtain a “fit to fly” health certificate so that I can fly out from NYC on April 6th.

Information on the NY Thai Embassy webpage and Thai news channels are very unclear whether Thai nationals are still able to return home if submitting all necessary documents to Embassy online:
      1) Copy of Thai Passport
      2) Filled Intent to Return Form
      3) Copy Travel Itinerary
      4) Fit to Fly health form filled by Physician submitted to embassy within 72 hours of flight departure time.

Please confirm that BKK airport is still allowing Thai Nationals to return home if all above documents are submitted to embassy within 72 hour time frame before travel date.

      Thank you

My husband and I are US citizens. I have a Non-B visa/work permit to work in Thailand. He has a Non-O visa. I am in Thailand and he has been in the US for the past month. He is scheduled to return to Thailand on April 20 (via EVA Air through Taiwan). I understand a COVID-19 health certificate will be required and health insurance – will he also need to bring a COVID-19 test result?

    • You need to contact the airline. I believe he only needs to present the ‘Fit-to-Fly” certificate issued by the Thai embassy or consulate in order to return to Thailand.

Dear Sir/Madam, I’m a UK citizen currently in Thailand on a 2-month Tourist visa which expires early May 2020 and I have a flight out of Thailand booked for 30th April, but as I read that all air and sea borders are sealed at least till the end of April, I’m assuming I will not be able to take that flight, so I was wondering if in case I need to extend my stay in Thailand, whether I will need to have a letter from the UK embassy or consulate in Thailand in order to apply for my first 30-day visa extension or if I can simply go to the immigration office with my passport and a TM30 and TM6 and my passport and photocopies of passport and visa and the visa extension fee (without a letter from the embassy)? Thanks in advance

    • No, the travel ban is for ENTRY to Thailand. If you are exiting Thailand, you are able to do so given that you are able to have a flight out of Thailand. Should you need an extension, you are able to extend for another 30 days at the local immigration office. For the extension, you just have to submit one passport size photo (4cm x 6cm) with white background, TM6 departure card, TM30 receipt from your hotel and pay the fee of 1,900 Thai baht. The letter from the embassy is not required if this is the first application for extension.

My father needs to extend his 60-day tourist visa. Is there any way to do this without entering an immigration office during the COVID-19 pandemic? He is elderly and it is the recommendation of the Thai Ministry of Public Health for people over the age of 70 years old not to leave the house during this time. Is there a way to extend online or send a courier to extend for him? Thank you.

    • At the moment, the Thai Immigration Bureau has not set new ways or options to apply for the visa extension. The application has to be done in person or by an agent. I recommend for you to visit your local immigration office to check the options for your father’s visa extension.

Dear madam or sir. I am a French citizen who arrived in Thailand on March 3 with a 30-day visa exemption that I have just renewed until May 1. I came to Thailand because I have found a teaching job which is due to start at the beginning of May – if the schools open at that time. I obtained all the papers and the work contract allowing me to apply for a non-immigrant B visa. Unfortunately, I could not leave the country because of the COVID-19 crisis and the borders will remain closed until the end of April – and maybe even longer. Will the government takes any measures for people in my situation who cannot travel to Thailand’s neighboring countries to apply for a visa? Flying back to my home country to get a visa is not an option for French people. How can I get a non-immigrant B visa without leaving the country? Thank you in advance for your answer.

    • You need to check with your employer for the option of getting the non-immigrant B visa inside Thailand. If your employer is not eligible to get the visa inside Thailand, then you have no option but to apply for it at a Thai embassy abroad. If you have exhausted all possible options for extensions, please contact your embassy or consulate in Thailand to provide a letter stating that you are affected by the current COVID-19 crisis and that your flight has been canceled. The embassy will request the immigration office to extend your stay for another 30 days.

-One year Non-Immigrant multiple entry O visas for care of my Thai child.

Visa expires in August 2020. Normally, I simply exit the Kingdom by quick round trip air every 90 days, (with this current 90 day period expiring on May 5, 2020).

Whether or not the COVID-19 lock-down for foreigners continues past the end of April, what is the best/easiest way to get another 90-day extension without exiting the Kingdom?

    • You need to exit Thailand on or before May 5th. If you are unable to do that, you have an option to convert your 90-day entry stamp into a 1-year extension for having a Thai child. You need to have 400,000 THB in a Thai bank account. If you are unable to provide this, you can request for a 7-day extension or 30-day extension if you can present an embassy letter.

Hi, I am an Australian passport holder, currently living in Cha-am on a Non-OA multiple entry visa. I have to leave Thailand and re-enter to get stamped back in for another 12 months (14th May 2020 expires). With the virus this may not be possible, my question is can I convert this visa to a Non-O visa based on marriage, without leaving the country, I have been married to my Thai wife for 20 years, and yes we were married in Thailand. Thank you.

    • No, it is not possible to change the non-immigrant OA visa into a non-immigrant O for being married to a Thai without leaving Thailand. Hopefully, the borders are open in May so that you can do your last border trip and you get extra 12 months permit to stay. Or when the borders open, and travel ban is lifted, you can go to a nearby country, visit a Thai embassy and apply for a Non-immigrant O visa for having a Thai wife.

I do not have the original Thai ID card with me, but only a picture of the Thai ID card. Is that sufficient to prove my citizenship and can you see it in the system that I am a dual citizen? What do I need to take with me in order to ensure I will be permitted in?
    Thank you.

I am in Phuket, Thailand on a Non-B business Visa. I normally commute between here and HK. I have not been back to HK since Sept last year. In Jan my family and I left for our 90 days to Singapore. My children have ED Visa and my wife has a Guardian Visa.

Given I cannot re-enter the country if I leave or go to somewhere like Singapore, how do I do my 90-day reporting? The online reporting is not working and tells me to contact immigration. My 90 days is up on April 3.

We went to immigration in Phuket Town this week and it was very busy with foreigners getting extensions. Given the emergency decree, I do not want to go to crowded places. What are my options?

I am also an APEC cardholder. Thanks.

    • Assuming that your Non-immigrant B visa is based on employment, you can ask your company accountant or secretary to arrange the 90-day reporting. However, if your non-immigrant B visa was issued abroad, you need to do a border exit and re-enter Thailand. At this time, visa application or extension of visas, the applicant must visit the immigration office. The Thai immigration is implementing measures to make sure that applicants observe proper social distancing.
