Top 20 Questions on Thailand Pass

I am an expat leaving Thailand for a short time and returning. Do I have to apply for Thailand Pass and Test & Go?

Yes. At this time, all people entering Thailand must apply for a Thailand Pass and follow Test & Go requirements if they are fully vaccinated. This includes having the required entry requirements such as insurance, SHA+ hotel booking, RT-PCR test, and Thailand Pass approval.

I am an expat returning to Thailand. Can I quarantine at home instead of a hotel?

No. No matter what visa you hold in Thailand, you must follow the Test & Go entry requirements. You must spend 1 night in a SHA+ quarantine hotel while waiting for your RT-PCR test result.

Have the April 1 changes to pre-departure RT-PCR testing come into effect?

Yes. Pre-departure RT-PCR tests are no longer required when entering Thailand.

Has the April 1 change come into effect for the Sandbox scheme?

Yes. The Sandbox scheme now requires only 5 nights of quarantine in the Sandbox designated area. Visitors must now do 1 x RT-PCR test and 1 x ATK test on day 5 instead of 2 x RT-PCR tests. The Test & Go program is a better option for those who are fully vaccinated.

Have the April 1 changes come into effect for the un-vaccinated Alternate Quarantine scheme?

Yes. The Alternate Quarantine timeframe has been reduced from 10 nights to 5 nights. You still need to have 2 x RT-PCR tests during this time. The tests will be taken on Day 1 and on Day 4 or 5.

I booked a 10-day Alternate Quarantine package but I am arriving after April 1. What should I do with the new changes?

You may contact your hotel. If you have not arrived in Thailand before April 1, you are eligible for the updated 5-day Alternate Quarantine scheme. Your hotel will advise what options are available to you.

Do I need to print my Thailand Pass documents for when I arrive at Passport Control in Thailand?

Yes. It is the best practice as you will present these documents to Immigration and Health Officers at the airport Passport and Health Control.

If you only have digital copies and something happens to your electronic device, you will not be allowed to enter the country.

How do I present my Thailand Pass QR code if my mobile phone is not working?

You should print a hard copy of your Thailand Pass QR code. If your mobile device does not work in Thailand, you can still present the QR code to Immigration and Health Officers at the airport Passport and Health Control.

Can I upload my Thailand Pass QR code to the MorChana App before I arrive in Thailand?

No. You can download the MorChana App before arriving in Thailand, but it will not allow uploads until you arrive in the country. You may ask your SHA+ hotel staff to assist you on how to navigate the app.

If I land in Phuket with the correct insurance, my SHA+ hotel, airport transfer, and separate RT-PCR tests booked, can I apply for Test & Go?

Yes. The above requirements are required to apply for Test & Go and Thailand Pass. You will also need to be vaccinated to apply for Test & Go.

Have the April 1 changes affected domestic flights in Thailand?

No. When landing in Thailand, domestic flights on arrival must still be approved “sealed” flights. Please check with Thai Airways and Bangkok Airways for the new list of sealed flights to Phuket and Samui.

Can I do my Test & Go quarantine in Pattaya?

Yes. If you land in Bangkok you can organize Test & Go quarantine in Pattaya. Your SHA+ hotel must provide transport from Bangkok airport to the hotel.

If your flight lands directly at Pattaya airport you will do your RT-PCR test at the airport and then be transported to your hotel.

Are international flights landing in Pattaya?

There are flights now landing directly at Pattaya U-tapao International Airport. Check with your airline provider for available direct flights.

Can I take a domestic flight from Bangkok to Pattaya for Test & Go quarantine?

Only if the flight is an approved “sealed” flight. This should be booked as part of your international flight itinerary.

If you book separate domestic flights, you are required to quarantine for 1 night in Bangkok before traveling to Pattaya.

What SHA+/AQ hotels are available in Pattaya?

You can find the latest information for SHA+/AQ hotels in Pattaya at Agoda.

Why is my US credit card being rejected when trying to book my RT-PCR test?

There is an issue with www.thailandpsas.com approving transactions with American credit cards. You can contact your hotel and they will organize the RT-PCR test booking for you.

I am trying to book hotel transport in Phuket with an American credit card and it is rejected. What can I do?

Transport from the airport to your hotel should be included in your SHA+ quarantine package. If there is an issue booking your hotel with an American credit card, try a different card or purchase through PayPal.

My hotel in Phuket does not offer transport from the hotel. What should I do?

Any SHA+/AQ hotel should include transport from the airport to their hotel. If they do not offer this service, it is best to look at different hotels because you cannot organize private transport.

Where can I see if hotel transfer is included in Phuket when looking at Agoda?

Many Phuket hotels do not list Airport Transfer on their front page. Click into the hotel and look at the bottom left corner of the details page. Airport transfer will be listed here under services offered.

How do I book a private transfer from the airport to a hotel in Phuket?

You cannot. Transfer from Phuket airport to your hotel must be provided by the hotel so it meets all Covid safety measures.

COVID-19 Thailand Visa Amnesty/Extension

What is a visa amnesty or COVID extension?

It is the visa relief or 60-day visa extension for all foreign nationals staying in Thailand affected by the COVID-19 crisis. Foreigners can apply for a COVID extension at any immigration office until March 25, 2022.

Who are covered by the visa amnesty or COVID extension?

All foreign nationals who are legally staying in Thailand whether you are here on visa exemption entry stamps and tourist visas. The holders of non-immigrant visas, or yearly extension of stays are not eligible for the COVID extension.

What are the current implementing rules regarding the visa amnesty or COVID extension?

  • Visas or permits to stay that are still valid and updated by the local Thai immigration office.
  • Foreigners holding a long-term visa such as a working visa, marriage visa, or retirement are required to apply for their yearly extension at the Thai immigration office as usual.
  • Foreigners do not need any embassy letter to be granted the automatic visa extension due to COVID-19.

Is the COVID-19 visa extension free of charge?

The COVID-19 extension of the visa costs 1,900 Thai baht.

Will the visa amnesty be extended?

The validity of the visa amnesty is until March 25, 2022 only. There is no indication that this visa amnesty or grace period will be extended.

What will happen when the visa amnesty is lifted or not extended anymore?

When the situation is resolved and returns to normal, foreigners must leave Thailand on or before the permit to stay date in their passports or they must apply for the proper another type of visa at the immigration office.

90-Day Reporting

If you are a foreigner staying in Thailand for a period longer than 90 consecutive days holding a Non-Immigrant Visa or Extension of Stay, you are required by Thai Immigration to report your current address every 90 days. You may file for the TM47 notification in person, by mail, online, or by an agent. Please check this page: https://www.thaiembassy.com/thailand/90-day-reporting-immigration.php

Consequences of Visa Overstay

During this COVID-19 crisis in Thailand, some foreign nationals may find themselves overstaying in Thailand, do so by mistake, by miscalculating the length of their stay, forgetting their visa expiration date, or by unforeseen cancellation of their flights due to travel restrictions. As a traveler, you should strongly avoid overstaying in Thailand, but if you do find yourself in Thailand on an expired visa it is very important that you act fast and in the right way. Please check this page to learn more of the consequences of overstaying in Thailand: https://www.thaiembassy.com/thailand/overstay-visa-thailand.php

Frequently Asked Questions

To extend a tourist visa, do I need to visit the Thai immigration office in person? I do not want to go to crowded areas at risk of COVID-19 infection.

Yes, there have been no changes regarding the visa extension application whether it is your first time to extend or the second time to extend. The application is still done in person. Thai immigration offices are practicing different measures such as social distancing and disinfecting the area to make sure that the applicants are not at risk of contracting the COVID-19. You might want to see if your local Thai immigration is open on Saturdays. That is a less crowded day of the week to visit the immigration office.

I have tried online reporting and reporting through a mobile app, both attempts failed. What are my other options?

If the online and mobile app reporting does not work, you need to do the reporting by yourself or you can ask a visa agent or third party to do the 90-day address reporting. You need to provide a power of attorney and the 90-day reporting documents such as the original and copy of the passport. There is no immigration fee for address reporting.

Is it required by law to wear a face mask?

The emergency decree issued by the Thai Government that came into effect recommends everyone wear a face mask when they are outside of their residence. However, some provinces such as Phuket have their own rule and you will be subject to a penalty. In Bangkok, commuters are required to wear a face mask when using public transportation and while in public places.

Should I carry my passport at all times?

Yes. If you are a foreigner and you will be out of your residence or hotel, you need to carry your passport especially right now that there are random checks to check the visa validity. It is also good to know that there are banks that would not allow you to enter the premises if you have traveled recently abroad, so it is best to have your passport with you at all times.

I am aware of the entry requirements for foreigners entering Thailand, is there special consideration for those traveling with my Thai family or visiting my Thai family?

At the moment, you can enter Thailand. You just have to make sure that you have obtained a Thailand Pass, purchased COVID-19 Insurance, had a COVID-19 test and you will undergo a mandatory Test and Go or ASQ quarantine.

I have a Non-Immigrant B visa and work permit expiring on April 24, due to my country’s travel restriction I cannot return to Thailand to renew it. What are my options?

If your country does not allow you to travel to Thailand or if your country of departure is under the travel ban, I regret to inform you that there is nothing you are able to do. It is not possible to renew it while you are outside Thailand and it is also not possible to renew it at the Thai embassy in your country. Should your visa and work permit expire while you are outside Thailand, you need to apply for a new non-immigrant B visa for you to enter Thailand and after you have entered Thailand, you can apply for a new work permit.

When do I need the embassy letter for the COVID-19 visa extension?

As of writing, the embassy letter is no longer required by the immigration office to receive the 60-day COVID-19 extensions.

I am looking for flights from Laos to Europe and this requires me to transit in Thailand. Do I need a Health Certificate when transiting? There are multiple different articles including the one on Thai Airways stating that a Health Certificate is required for transiting passengers.

As of writing, international passengers including transiting passengers are required to present a COVID-19 health certificate and negative COVID test result. If you are affected by this travel requirement, you may opt to postpone your travel or you may opt to book a flight that will not transit through Thailand. For the latest update, it is best to contact your airline.

I am a US citizen traveling from the US to Thailand via Hong Kong, am I subject to mandatory quarantine?

No, the mandatory quarantine is not required for any foreigner and Thai travelers entering Thailand via Hong Kong if you are fully vaccinated. You may apply for Thailand Pass under the Test and Go program. The mandatory 10-day quarantine is only required for unvaccinated travelers from any country.

I’m a French national. I have 60 days tourist visa, which is ending soon, but due to COVID-19, I am kind of reluctant to travel back to France. Is there any way that I can extend my visa for another 30 days?

Yes, any nationality holding a 60-day tourist visa entry stamp can extend for 30 days at the local immigration office. For the extension, you just have to submit one passport-size photo (4cm x 6cm) with white background, TM6 card, TM30 receipt from your hotel, and pay the fee of 1,900 Thai baht.

I am British and I entered Thailand on holiday on March 3 and am scheduled to leave on April 1. If my flight is canceled due to COVID-19, I may be forced to overstay my 30 days permit to stay until I have a rescheduled flight. Is this ok? If not, what should I do?

You are able to extend this 30-day visa exemption stamp for another 30 days at the local Thai immigration office. For the extension, you just have to submit one passport-size photo (4cm x 6cm) with white background, TM6 card, TM30 receipt from your hotel, and pay the fee of 1,900 Thai baht.

I am an American and I have a 30-day visa exemption that I extended for an extra 30 days. My current extension will expire on April 1, 2021. What are my options to stay in Thailand due to the travel restriction in other countries?

You have two options: 1.) You can extend your current extension for 30 days at your local immigration office. 2.) You can request a COVID-19 extension and you will be given a 60 days extension at your local Thai immigration office.

I have a non-immigrant O visa for having a Thai wife. It is a single entry visa. My 90-day entry stamp will expire in April and the money in my account has not seasoned yet for 2 months. What can I do?

Since you are legally married to a Thai national, you can apply for a 60-day extension for having a Thai wife. This extension will give you enough time for your funds to season for 2 months. After your funds have seasoned for 2 months, you may apply for a 1-year extension or marriage visa.

My work permit and my visa will expire by the end of the month. Due to the current COVID-19 situation, I am not able to return to my country. What are my options?

Since your visa and your work permit will expire, your only option for an extension of your stay in Thailand is to file for the 60-day COVID extension. You may apply for this extension on the last day of your permit to stay.

I am flying from the USA to Thailand via Hong Kong. Do I still need to present a health certificate and travel insurance?

At the moment, passengers entering Thailand need to obtain the Thailand Pass, purchase a COVID-19 insurance, book Test and Go Hotel for 1 night, or an ASQ Hotel for the 10-day quarantine (if not vaccinated), and obtain a COVID-19 medical certificate.

Can anyone advise what to do regarding my Non-B visa? My Non-B expired on 4th March. I have to pay a fine of 500 baht per day for overstay. The borders around Thailand are closed for me to renew it. I have requested a 30-day extension but was refused. They need my new contract for the new year. This is costing me an arm and a leg. What are my solutions?

The best solution for this is to avoid overstaying so that you will not get in trouble in the future. If you do not have a new contract from the school it is imperative for you to return to your home country until you have a new contract and apply for a new visa from the Thai embassy there. Once you have secured a new non-immigrant B visa, you may return to Thailand together with a copy of the health certificate and health insurance. Another option is to request a COVID extension while you are preparing the documents for your non-immigrant B visa. Some immigration offices are now issuing non-immigrant B visas.

I am a U.S. citizen. I arrived in Bangkok last March 9. My flight to Manila has been canceled on April 8. I am in Pattaya. Do I need a US embassy letter to extend my 45-day Travel Visa? Or can I just go to the Thai Immigration office in Pattaya to get an extension due to COVID-19?

No, you do not need an embassy letter at this time. Your current 45-day visa exemption stamp can be extended for an additional 30 days. For the extension, you just have to submit one passport size photo (4cm x 6cm) with white background, TM6 card, TM30 receipt from your hotel and pay the fee of 1,900 Thai baht.

Hi, I own property [condominium] in Bangkok which remains unrented, as it would be my eventual place of retirement. Normally, I would have been in Bangkok enjoying a vacation but appreciate travel from my place of residency [Qatar] and Thailand have their own restrictions of travel in each direction. Once you allow access to Thailand [Bangkok] for those ‘residents’ with work visas, would that also include property owners. I am owed a 6 week holiday, so happy to have mandatory quarantine if need be, but without a work visa am I allowed in if I show my blue book?
Also, is there a charge for quarantine at the state run facilities?

    • June 2, 2020

      Dear Alan,
Yes, you are correct that the first group of foreigners that will be allowed to enter Thailand are those with non-immigrant B visa and work permit. Unfortunately, the condominium owners have a different kind of visa so you will not be part of that group. As for the 14-day mandatory quarantine, yes, the foreigner will pay for the expense.

Hello, I´m going from Krabi to Koh Samui by ferry. Is there a health certification or quarantine requiered? I stayed in Krabi for the last 2 month during curfew. Do you have any information? Thanks, Jella

    • June 1, 2020

Health certificate and quarantine is not required if you travelling from one city to another. BUT it is best to check also the requirements of the city you intend to visit especially if you are located in the south of Thailand.

Hi, I just have question regarding my visa. I have a non-b visa which expires on June 3, 2020, do I still need to extend it or it is automatically extended till July 31? Thank you.

If you are in Thailand right now, it is best to renew your visa as usual.

Hi Rex, my single entry tourist visa has expired on June 5 and i had not been able to use it due to the travel ban, can the validity of it be extended or is it automatically extended ? I’ve paid for this visa and the process online to get it in the UK wasn’t easy, so hoping i don’t need to pay/apply all over again. Thanks in advance

    • June 9, 2020

      Dear Terry,
If you were not able to use the TR visa that was issued to you by the Thai Embassy or consulate, this visa will then be considered void. You need to reapply or obtain a new visa. You may contact the Thai embassy or consulate that issued the visa and check with this office if you can obtain the same visa without a fee. Thank you.

Hi is it possible to enter thailand in july from australia on a OA visa?

    • June 1, 2020

      Dear Stephen,
At the moment, only Thai nationals are allowed to enter Thailand for the month of June. For the month of July, it might be the foreigners with work permits. For the foreigners with non-immigrant O or OA visas, we may have to wait for the new government announcements.

    Hi Rex,

Firstly thanks for replying to all questions. That should take a lot of your time. I also have one question if you don’t mind:

We are in Nepal and we plan to come Thailand in July. Can we come by visa-on-arrival? I am Turkish citizen and my girlfriend is Chinese.

    Thanks!

    • June 1, 2020

      Dear Cem,
Thank you for your comments and you’re welcome. For Turkish national, you can still obtain a visa exemption stamp. For the Chinese national, the visa on arrival program has been suspended until September 30 so she cannot come without a valid visa. if you wish to travel to Thailand in July, you may be required to obtain a certificate or permission to enter Thailand issued by Thai Embassy in Nepal. Right now, that is only issued to those foreigners with a valid visa and work permit. So, realistically, tourists may not be able to enter Thailand in July, but we still have to wait for government announcement.

I understand that the international airports, land borders and sea borders are closed for incoming foreigners. And only Thai nationals who are repatriated are allowed to enter Thailand through special flights arranged by Thai embassy.

Are foreigners able to go to Suvarnabhumi Airport to take a flight OUT of Bangkok? I am trying to return to USA

    • June 1, 2020

      Dear Sharon,
Yes, there are few flights per week that you can take. Especially the plane that the Thais used to enter Thailand, it will leave Thailand with foreigners who wish to return to their home country. You may check the website of the US Embassy Bangkok or their Twitter account to know more on the available flights to the US from Bangkok.

    • June 1, 2020

      Dear David,
Yes, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has announced last Friday that you can apply or file a request for Certificate of Entry from your local Thai Embassy in Canberra. This may allow you to enter Thailand in July.

Hello. I am currently in Thailand on a 6 month multi entry visa. The last stamp I received in my passport from Thai immigration, was dated 14th May but am granted a stay until the 31st July due to the visa amnesty in place.
Should international flights resume on or before the 31st July, technically could I fly out and fly back in to Thailand again to get a 60 day extension stamp? Thanks

    • June 1, 2020

      Dear Ryan,
Yes, it is correct that you can leave Thailand on or before July 31. However, your entry to Thailand may be delayed. Because right now, we do not know if tourists can enter Thailand in July or August. All we know is that foreigners with Non-immigrant B visa and work permit are the priority to be allowed into Thailand in July. We have to wait for more announcement from the government for the tourists entering Thailand.

Will I be able to process my visa within Thailand when it becomes available or will I have to fly somewhere to process it outside of Thailand.

    • June 1, 2020

      Dear Patrick,
You need to check with your school to advise you if you have already utilized the 1 year extension of your ED visa or if you are required to apply for a new non-immigrant ED visa from a Thai embassy or consulate abroad.

If one is a foreigner (expat) living in Thailand for a number of years, and works at sea and then gets a visa on arrival when arriving back to Thailand after work. Is there any possible way to get into Thailand now considering one is not a Thai-national?

    • May 28, 2020

No, there is no possibility for a non-Thai national to enter Thailand until June 30. The Thai government is very strict about this due to the fact that the facility for state quarantine is limited so it is only possible to prioritize the Thai nationals first. We can assume that maybe in July foreigners will be allowed, but right now, there is no exact guideline about that. There is also a possibility that travel ban will be extended.

Is there any alternative quarantine facilities for foreigners returning in Thailand with work permits? Or is it possible for them to self-quarantine in their own apartments/condos?

Do you have any information about quarantine process? How much will it be?

    Thank you.

    • May 27, 2020

Right now, returning Thai nationals are required to undergo a state quarantine. They are housed in a facility provided by the government. The reason why the Thais are the only people allowed to come to Thailand because it is important to have a mandatory quarantine. For the incoming foreigners, you will be subject to a mandatory state quarantine also. But that may happen after few months from now because the state facility has limited accommodation.

    4) if I get a non B visa in my home country, I should be able to return to Thailand in August right? (subject to quarantine)

      Dear Sam,
      Please see my comments below:
      1. Yes, you may stay in Thailand until July 31 since you are covered by the visa amnesty.
      2. No. You cannot apply for a new non-immigrant ED visa. You have an option to extend your visa again or if you have exhausted all extensions, you need to leave the country and get a new non-immigrant ED visa from a Thai embassy abroad.
      3. Yes, you need to leave the country to obtain a new visa, non-immigrant B visa from a Thai embassy outside Thailand.
      4. if you are able to get a new non-immigrant B visa, yes, you may return to Thailand in August given that the international flights are no longer banned. Yes, you will undergo a mandatory state quarantine and subject to entry requirements at that time, which will be announced in the coming weeks.

Hello, I am flying from Chiang Mai to Bangkok on May 30th. I have been in Pai for 3 months now, safe and sound. Does anyone know if I will be place in a state-quarantine upon arrival in Bangkok? I would absolutely refuse this and if so, postpone my travel.

I am waiting to move to Thailand when the flights open up with a visa code B. Will my children be able to come with me if they apply for a visa code O? They have a letter and I have a letter and we would travel together.

    • May 27, 2020

      Dear Benjamin,
Yes, you are able to travel with your Non immigrant B visa and Non Immigrant O visas, but right now, we are not sure when will that be. The Thai government has not set the new schedule or the group that will be allowed to enter in July. Right now, Group 1 is the Thai nationals allowed to fly into Thailand on special flights. For your and your family, we are not sure if you will be in Group 2 or Group 3.

    • May 26, 2020

      Dear Roberto,
Normally, you are not able to switch from tourist into a non-immigrant O visa (dependant of foreigner) within Thailand. You must apply for it at a Thai embassy outside Thailand. However, you may also ask the employer of your wife if they can assist you to do it within Thailand. They may check with Thai Immigration Office in Bangkok.

If you have plan to stay in Thailand beyond July 31, then you need to renew your visa as usual. If you have no plans on staying after July 31, you can avail the visa amnesty and stay in Thailand until July 31 only.

    Hi.

I have contacted you already explaining I am a foreigner who lives and works in Thailand since 2003. I have my own company with non b visa and work permit.

I am stuck in Australia and you suggested I contact the Thai Embassy in Canberra to see if I can get on one of the repatriation flights. I have sent numerous emails to the Thai Embassy in Canberra but no response from them.

This situation is extremely unfair to foreigners who have invested all of their life savings into business and life in Thailand, and pay tax in Thailand. My business in Bangkok has now started back up but I am stuck in Australia.

How do I contact somebody at the Thai Embassy in Canberra for a response? I really need to get back to my work and life in Thailand.

    Thank you.

    Hello,

Continuing my query, I am a foreigner holding valid work permit and visa in Thailand. I am currently outside the country and hasn’t been able to return back due to lock down in my country as well as in Thailand. Also got to know that ban on international flights is extended till 30th June in Thailand.

My work permit is expiring in July end but the non-immigrant type b visa will still be valid and the validity is till October mid.
Considering this, I have following queries:

    1. Will I be allowed to come back after my work permit expires (considering that I will still hold the valid visa)? If yes, then can I still apply for work permit again basis my current visa?

    2. If no, then let’s say if I am able to come back on 1st July itself, will I be able to make it for renewal process of work permit?

    3. What is the quarantine process for travelers returning back after 30th June? I have seen in news that it is mandatory for people returning back currently by repatriation flights to be there in state quarantine for 14 days. Will the same rule be applicable even after border opens up? Wouldn’t self quarantine at home be allowed?

    4. If at all state quarantine is compulsory for all, then is it free for foreigners or do we have to pay? If yes, then how much are the charges?

    5. Are we asked to share the room in quarantine center? Can’t a single person stay in one room alone?

    6. I have seen in news that some hotels are collaborating with hospitals and converting hotels into quarantine center. What are the charges for such facilities? Are we asked to share room with someone in such facilities too?

Please help in providing clarifications for these queries as my future options greatly depends upon answers for these.

    Thanks in advance!

      Dear Isha,
      Please see our comments below:
      1. At the moment, there is no specific requirements for the entry of foreigners on July 1. Previously, it was stated that foreigners with work permit and valid Non B visa will be allowed in as first priority after Thai nationals.
      2. Given that the travel ban is lifted, you can enter Thailand on July 1 under your valid Non B visa and then immediately extend your work permit. However, if your Non B visa is an extension of stay, you may need to apply for a new Non B visa from Thai embassy before coming back to Thailand because your work permit has already expired so is your visa extension.
      3. We do not have the information on quarantine process, please contact the local Thai embassy in your country regarding this matter or you may contact the Ministry of Public Health.
      4. Yes, the state quarantine is mandatory. That is the reason why international flights are banned because the state quarantine has a limited capacity.
      5. Yes, you will be asked to share a room with 2 to 3 other passengers.
      6. Yes, there has been plans to allow hotels to be a quarantine area to meet the incoming demand on international arrivals that requires quarantine. We do not have information regarding this. You may contact a consular officer from Thai Embassy in your country to learn more about it.

      Dear Brian,
We are sorry for your current situation, but unfortunately the Civil Aviation Authority of Thailand would only allow special flights to land in Thailand between now and June 30. Special flights are arranged by Thai Embassies, therefore your child may be included in that flight but the issue would be the mandatory quarantine of 14 days. I recommend for you for to contact the Thai Embassy in KL and explain to them that your child needs to travel to Thailand and because she is a minor, she needs an adult to accompany her. That is all we can advice you right now.

    • May 22, 2020

You need to ask your embassy where your passport was issued to provide a letter explaining the process that you can renew the passport even without going to that country and also this letter must state the request for the Immigration to transfer the visa stamp into the new passport.

So does this mean that the repatriation flights are arranged for Thai nationals only? Even the people holding valid work permit/visa can not use this privilege?
Sorry for posting the query again but I really need to go back in June, my employment is at risk.!

    Please suggest some way.

    • May 22, 2020

Yes, the government facility for mandatory quarantine is limited therefore the first priority are Thai nationals. At the moment there is nothing you or we can do but to adhere to the travel ban. The international flights are banned and special repatriation flights are for Thai nationals only. I recommend for you to call the Thai embassy in your current location and ask if they can include you in their special flights if there is any.

For a Thai national who wishes to enter Thailand in June, the only way to do that is through repatriation flights arranged by the Thai Embassy in the country where he is located. We recommend for him to contact the Thai embassy and sign up for the special flight.

    • May 21, 2020

      Dear Roberto,
At the moment there is a travel ban for international flights. So regardless of your visa or work permit, it is not possible to enter Thailand until June 30. In the event that the travel ban is lifted, we can assume that you can enter on July 1 and then you are able to renew your visa extension. You may be subject to mandatory quarantine (we have to wait for new entry requirements), it may be impossible to renew the visa while in quarantine. So it is safe to say that you may not be able to renew your visa and you may have to get a new Non immigrant B visa from a Thai embassy before returning to Thailand and then obtain visa extension.

    • May 21, 2020

      Dear Jeremy,
At the moment the repatriation flights allowed by the CAAT are repatriation flights for Thai nationals who will eventually undergo a mandatory quarantine facilitated by Thai government. So for foreigners, we have to wait until July 1 or we have to wait for further announcements if it will be lifted or extended again. Thank you.

      Dear Geraldine,
If you are unable to travel to Thailand in June, I regret to inform that there is nothing you are able to do with regards to the visa and work permit. It is not possible to renew it while you are outside Thailand and it also not possible to renew at the Thai embassy in your country. Should your visa and work permit expire while you are outside Thailand and the travel restrictions are lifted, you need to apply for a new non-immigrant B visa for you to enter Thailand and after you have entered Thailand, you can apply for a new work permit.

    • May 21, 2020

If your work permit expires on June 15, then you must renew it because work permits are not covered by the visa amnesty. if your work permit will not expire until few months from now, and it is only your visa that will expire in June, then, it will now depend on the officer at your local immigration office. Some officer may be considerate and let you renew it beyond June 15 but before July 31 or some officers may insist that you renew it on or before June 15. It is best to contact the Section M of the Chaengwattana Immigration Office, if your visa was issued there.

At the moment, the current travel ban is effective only until June 30. If this travel ban is not extended, then you can apply for the non-immigrant B visa from Thai embassy in your current location and use it to enter Thailand in September. I have the following concerns:

    2. If VISA extension is possible then what will be the procedure for that? What documents will require? Where should I submit all the documents?

    3. If VISA extension is not possible then when will I have to reapply for VISA and what will be the procedure for that?

      Dear Ashish,
      Here are my comments:
      1. Since you are not in Thailand, you are not covered by the visa amnesty.
      2. Visa extension is not possible but you may contact Thai Embassy in India if they are able to re-issue your Non immigrant B visa and Non-immigrant O visa without fee.
      3. The re-application of the new visa will be the same as the previous one.
      4. At the moment, there is no new entry requirements set by the CAAT and Ministry of Public Health, but we can assume that mandatory quarabntine under government supervision will be required once the borders are open.
      5. You need to contact the visa section and ask for the re-issuance of the un-used visa.
      Thank you.

I’m a retired Belgium citizen and entered on 25 December 2019 Thailand. I have a tourist “TR” multiple entry visa witch is valid up to 20 June 2020.
I have to return back to Belgium earlier than expected due to my house in Belgium got soled.
I was able to book a flight to Brussels (over Amsterdam) with KLM airlines on 25 May 2020. Up to now this flight looks ok.
The only thing I’m worried for is the travel from my location in Thailand, Chum Phae district Khon Kean to Bangkok Suvarnabhumi airport. As there are no domestic flights available (Khon Kean airport to Bangkok Suvarnabhumi airport) I’m obliged to travel by car/taxi.
The papers I will carry with me are a valid visa, passport, up to date TM 30 form, KLM flight ticket and all mandatory personal protection measures. And I like to travel with the car/taxi, on 22-05-20 to have some time spare before the flight to Belgium, just in case.

Do I have to expect problems during this travel by car/taxi or am I even not allowed to make this trip to Bangkok? During this trip I and the car/taxi will need to cross the Thai province borders.

    Kind regards
    Marc VDV.

    Hi,

thank you for helping out people in need.

I see in some replies you said that APEC stamps (entries) are NOT eligible for the automatic visa extensions but then again in some questions you reply that it is.

I arrived in BKK March 17 and should leave by June 17. However I can’t. So how do I get an extension? Do I have to do anything or is it automatically for APEC card holders as well?

    • May 19, 2020

      Dear Sebastian,
The entry stamp that you received when you entered Thailand is eligible for the visa amnesty and be able to stay until July 31. However, this entry stamp cannot be used to switch to another visa such as work visa or retirement visa. As for the amnesty, you do not need to do any application and there is no need to visit a Thai immigration office. Thank you and Have a great day! When you have time, you may give us a 5-star review on this page:

Hi My non immigration OA visa extended for 1 year and will expired on 31 May 2020.

I am currently in Hong Kong outside of Thailand. Can come back to thailand after in July when thailand airport is open and extend my retirement visa.

Or do I have to apply for a new retirement visa in Hong Kong Thai Embassy.

      Thanks for your attention

      Chris

    • May 20, 2020

      Dear Chris,
If you are still in Hong Kong when the visa expires, you will have to reapply for a new non-immigrant O visa issued by Thai Consulate in Hong Kong. You will use this visa in order to return to Thailand and once you are in Thailand, you will convert it to retirement visa.

Is Thailand Embassy in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia open for Non Immigrant Visa B application ?

I am scheduled to work offshore, Thailand waters in June. I will sail to Thailand with work vessel from Malaysia. Arrival Songkhla is 15 June. CIQ clearances will be done at Songkhla anchorage. If I don’t have Non-B visa, can I work since I will be sponsored by local Thailand company.

Normally personnel onboard work vessel during CIQ, will be stamp in and out of the country, and the work vessel proceed to high seas to carry out job. My worry is because I will be employed by Thailand local company to perform duty during that project, even though during this period I don’t have to be onshore in Thailand, only offshore.

      Dear Dean,
If you have availed the visa amnesty, it means you are aware that you are stranded in Thailand and you will leave Thailand as soon as the flights are available and you must leave before July 31. So the answer to your question, it is not possible to apply for a new visa while you are on visa amnesty or automatic extension.

Hi, i arrived in Thailand on the 21st of January through an APEC card and was granted 3 months of stay which is up till to 20th April. However due to the covid situation, i am unable to leave or book any flights. I have approached my Singapore Embassy with this matter and they only replied saying to adhere to all Thai immigration ruling and policies. So i was wondering whether the automatic extension of visa for all foreigners trapped in Thailand applies to my situation as well?

    • May 18, 2020

This is to inform you that the Thai government has given a visa amnesty to foreigners who are unable to travel out of Thailand or those who do not wish to apply for an extension at immigration office due to the risk of being infected with COVID-19. Hi, I was hoping to come visit my girlfriend for 2 or 3 weeks in June and the fact you need a fit to fly and still spend 14 days in quarrantine is just a bit extrreme and overkill if you had a test 2 days prior to flying then should be enough or even another 2 day test when arrive but to waste 14 days of vacation is just going to put people off completely as there is no point coming to spend 14 days in a government lock up and although I understand the Kingdom wishing to be cautious and protect itself this is too much and with the Thai economy on its knees is keeping tourist away the best way to go here?

    • May 15, 2020

Yes, you are right. That is why the first priority for foreigners to enter Thailand are those who are living and working in Thailand because they would not mind the 14-day quarantine. As for tourists, it is best to visit Thailand when there is no longer a mandatory quarantine.

      May 15, 2020

Thanks for your reply. May I make a better solution to this issue and one which will help get the Thai economy up and running much faster which it is in need for sure. There are now available rapid Covid test kits for example: https://www.cdpsa.eu/en/ I believe the cost to be approx. 500 Baht per test kit, which you pass on and the person entering would pay this even can make a small profit of each kit for the government. Now I would gladly pay this and be tested within 1 hour and free to move, instead of a lengthy 14 quarantine where I am not spending my money back in the Thai economy or putting me off coming to the kingdom! Maybe a faster cleaner and more profitable answer… just a thought 🙂

Hi Rex, a representative with the Royal Thai Embassy in London has just informed me that the Fit to Fly certificate will not necessarily be required those first weeks of June if the flight ban is lifted after May 31. More specifically, they will require:
    a) a negative Covid 19 test result and
    b) health insurance that covers Covid-19

I have heard from 2 other Thai Consulates that a negative Covid test will be required in the first few weeks of June. Do you have any info that confirms this? Also – do you have any info about the need for health insurance that covers Covid? Thanks!

At the moment, commercial international flights are banned from entering Thailand until May 31. However, you can still travel back to Thailand in May, you just have to contact the Thai Embassy in your current location to know if there is a repatriation flights arranged by the Thai Embassy.

Dear I am a Thai passport holder and so is my son. Can I return home next month (June) with my husband, we have been married for 15 years (my husband has a Belgian passport). Miss my family.

    Thanks in advance

    • May 8, 2020

      Dear Aoy,
Please be informed that Thailand has closed all land, sea and air borders until May 31, 2020. Only Thai nationals are allowed to enter if they will sign up for the repatriation program by Thai government for the Thai citizens. For foreigners, we have to wait for further announcement by the government.

I hold a Non-B visa that will expire on the 31st of May. I had contacted my employer and they have stated that they will not be renewing my extension and closing their business. What are my options regarding staying in Bangkok or obtaining an extension of stay? Thank you.

    • May 8, 2020

If your Non B visa was issued inside Thailand, you have to cancel it on May 31 and then apply for an extension so that you can qualify for the visa amnesty and you will be allowed to stay until July 31.

Hi! I am in Thailand on a 6-months METV (multi entry visa). I arrived before the shut-down of the borders (in March). My 60 days stay is soon up.

Do I extend my VISA at Thai immigration for a new 60-day period? What do I do?

    Kind regards,
    Martin

    • May 8, 2020

If you have an “admitted until” stamp in your passport valid until May 2020, you are able to stay in Thailand until July 31 if you don’t want to leave Thailand just yet. You do not need to do any kind of visa application and you do not need to visit the immigration office.

      Hi,
This was exactly my question. I have the 6-months Multi Entry visa and my passport had the stamp admitted until 5 May 2020. So I don’t need to do anything until July 31, right?

      Regards,
      Samir

    • May 8, 2020

      Dear Samir,
If you have a “permitted until” or an “admitted until” stamp in your passport until May 5, you are able to stay in Thailand until July 31. You do not need to do any kind of visa application and there is no need to visit immigration office.

Hey, I plan to go Thailand in june for 90 day, but i can see i have to ask the embassy in Thailand to stay for the last 30 days. Do i have to book my return ticket, so i will be back after 60 days or is it possible wait booking my ticket home until i know, if i can stay for 30 day more?

    • May 8, 2020

You can apply for a 60-day tourist visa from Thai Embassy or Consulate in your country. The embassy may require a return flight to issue the visa. However, once you are in Thailand, if you wish to stay for additional 30 days, you may apply for the 30-day extension and also you can rebook your flight.

If I am a Russian citizen having the TR 60-day visa extended once already, can I apply for the amnesty extension? I mean is this possible to prolongate it until July 31st if the current stamp runs out beginning of June? I still cannot go back to my country because of flight suspension.

If so, what documents I should give in to the immigration? Any fees applicable?

    • May 8, 2020

      Hi Veronica,
If you have a “permitted until” stamp in your passport valid until June, yes, you are able to stay in Thailand until July 31. You do not need to do any kind of visa application and you do not need to visit the immigration office.

    • May 11, 2020

    Hello,

I recently accepted a job in Bangkok at the St Andrew’s International school and I am supposed to travel to Thailand from Jordan at the start of July. I am currently on contract here until then. I am a British passport holder and my husband will be travelling with me.

I am really starting to worry about how to get to Thailand. Royal Jordanian airline has flights leaving in july and your website information says you have suspended travel until may 31st. Please advise on what to do. I can’t stay here in jordan and I can’t fly home to the UK. I need to come to thailand!

In addition we are travelling with 3 cats. My school will pay for accomodation for a week whilst I find somewhere to live but there is a covid 19 warning on all hotel bookings saying travel is restricted to this area currently.

I’m realy not sure what steps to take and when at the minute so any support and advice would be great

    Many thanks

    Ceris

    • May 8, 2020

      Dear Ceris,
At this moment, there is still a ban on international passenger flights until May 31. There is no timeline yet to lift the ban, but when it happens, foreigners will need a fit to fly certificate from Thai embassy in the country or flight origin and you must then do a 14-day mandatory quarantine on arrival at the government facility.

I am a Filipino citizen holding a multiple entry (TR) visa valid for 6 months (expiring July 6). But I am required to get a new stamp on my passport from border control every 60 days. My next due stamp day is before May 5, 2020.

    What should I do?

    • May 8, 2020

You have an option to extend for 30 days at local immigration office or you can avail the visa amnesty and stay until July 31.

    • May 8, 2020

If you are able to provide the old passport and show to the officer at the airport that your stamp was valid until after March 26, then it will not be an overstay. if your visa ended before March 26, then you are considered overstay and must pay the overstay fine at the airport when you leave Thailand.

    Hello,
My husband has a Business visa & work permit and I have a dependent visa that expire on 20th June 2020. My husband travelled to India mid March and got stuck there, I stayed in Thailand because of our son’s school. I have the following concerns:

    1. Does he (in India) get the automatic visa extension until 31st July? So he can enter Thailand and apply for visa renewal.

    2. Do I (in Thailand) get the automatic visa extension until 31st July?

    3. Would he need the $100K health insurance upon his return? Would he have to stay in quarantine for 14 days?

    • May 8, 2020

For you and your son, even if you do not extend your visas, you are able to remain in Thailand until July 31. For your husband, if he cannot return to Thailand and renew the visa, he needs to do it over. He needs to apply for a new visa and start the application just like before. For the entry requirement for him, we can expect the mandatory 14-day quarantine and fit to fly certificate from Thai Embassy in India. Health insurance will not be required for him since he is an expat.

    Hi there ,

I have been reading about the “permitted until” stamp on the comments. I am on a non-b that is expiring 30 may and it shows “admitted until” , Is that the same ? will i be covered under the visa amnesty until 31 July? Or do i have to get another stamp ? Thanks.

    • May 8, 2020

If you have just entered Thailand end of February or beginning of March, you can stay until May 30. If you wish are currently working with a work permit, you can ask your employer to apply for 1 year extension until May 30, 2021. If you are not currently working and no employer to extend your stay, then you are allowed to stay until you can find a flight out of Thailand until July 31.

    Hi.

I am receiving conflicting information. Please clarify…

I have been informed that foreigners who live and work in Thailand with a valid work permit can also apply for the repatriation flights through May.

    Is this correct?

    Thank you.

    • May 8, 2020

No. Repatriation flights to Thailand are arranged by the Thai Embassy in that country. I believe Thai Embassy will only enlist Thai nationals to be on the repatriation flight to Thailand. We recommend for you to check with the Thai embassy in your current location. Foreigners with work permit are able to travel to Thailand on commercial flights in June.

    Hi,

My name is Juan Estol. I am Uruguayan.
I had planned my holidays visiting Thailand on 29th March. By this pandemic situation, I didn’t have another option that postpone my holidays to September.
My tourist visa expired on April and I wonder if it is possible to reschedule my VISA for tourism FOR FREE to this month in case of travelling (if borders open again).
Do I have to pay again to get VISA??

    Thanks

    • May 8, 2020

      Dear Juan,
We recommend for you to contact the Thai Embassy where you paid and obtained the Thai Visa. You may ask the embassy if you can reapply and obtain the visa without a fee since you were not able to use the previous visa. It will be the discretion of the embassy should they allow it or not.

Hello there, and first of all, thanks for this amazing page where many unanswered questions have been answered.

As it states all travel to Thailand is banned until the end of May.

But if Thailand opens up its boarders (only if) in the upcoming months, will it still be expected to be in 14 days quarantine, despite the country would be open for travelers?

Thank you for your time, keep up the amazing work.

    – Kenny

    • May 8, 2020

      Dear Kenny,
Thank you for you comment. Should the government open the borders in June, the guideline may be for Thai nationals first and foreigners with work permit. We can expect that 14-day quarantine will be mandatory for both returning Thai nationals and returning foreigners with work permit. For the travelers or tourists, it may take another month like July for example. Right now, there is no official guideline from the government.

    Hello, good morning.
I arrived in Thailand on Feb 25 with a Visa on Arrival expring on March 25. Then on March 19th I got an extension (“permitted to stay”) till April 24. My flight has been cancelled twice so the Immigration Office gave me another extension till May 22 but with a different stamp: “Application of stay is under consideration…” In meantime my flight has been postponed once again. Am I covered by the Visa amnesty? And if I am not what can I do to solve the problem?
Thanks for your help and consideration.
    Best regards
    Marco

    • May 8, 2020

If you received an “Under Consideration” stamp from the Thai Immigration Bureau, our advice is that you visit the Thai Immigration Bureau to get your new “Permitted Until” stamp. After you receive the “permitted until” stamp in your passport, you are able to stay in Thailand until July 31. you do not need to do any kind of visa application. Kindly contact the Thai Immigration Bureau at 1178 for all Thai visa matters/queries.

Hi, I have a 4 month old baby who has dual citizenship, US/Thai.
At the beginning of the lock-down, we left Thailand for the US.
Baby had important appointments in the US, which have been completed.
I need to bring the child back to Thailand to her mother. I am not able to work and provide child care.
Our K1 immigration to the US is now halted.
Is it possible for me to bring the child back to Thailand with her Thai passport?
Is it possible for me to stay with our family in Thailand on a 30 day visa on arrival?

    • May 8, 2020

Regarding this inquiry, we recommend for you to check with the nearest Thai Embassy or Consulate if they are able to include you and your baby to a repatriation flight to Thailand or if they can issue a flit to fly certificate that you may be able to use for traveling to Thailand in July 2020.
