What is Thailand Pass QR Code

Thailand Pass QR code is the permit to enter Thailand during this COVID pandemic. Every traveler both Thai and foreigners, will be required to obtain a Thailand Pass QR code before traveling to Thailand.

Here are some useful information to get to know your Thailand Pass QR code for the Vaccinated Traveler:

Sample Thailand Pass QR code

  1. This is the mode of travel to Thailand. You can enter Thailand by AIR or by LAND. In this example, the traveler will enter Thailand via air travel arriving in an international airport.
  2. This shows your full name. It is recommended to follow the name stated in your travel document or passport. Make sure that you have the correct spelling of your name. The title name such as Mr. Mrs. Miss will not matter in case you have made a mistake.
  3. This is the QR code which will be scanned by the officer at the airport upon arrival in Thailand. When you scan this QR code it will show the traveler’s information and the details of vaccination.
  4. This is the departure country. This is the first leg of your trip in case you are transiting in a third country. Transit country is not considered a departure country. If you are traveling from the US to Thailand via Japan for example, the departure country is the USA and not Japan.
  5. This is the proposed date of arrival as stated in your application. You may arrive in Thailand on this date or in case of flight cancellation or delays, you may arrive on a later date.
  6. This is the earliest date that you are allowed to enter Thailand which is the same date as your proposed arrival date. This is NOT the start date of your visa or permit to stay in Thailand.
  7. This is the latest date that you are allowed to enter Thailand in case of flight changes. You are allowed to enter Thailand later than your proposed date of arrival. You can enter within 3 days after the original date of arrival. This is NOT the expiry date of your visa or permit to stay in Thailand. This is NOT the date you are permitted to stay in Thailand.
  8. This is the entry program you are qualified and approved to enter Thailand. In this example, the traveler is allowed to enter under the NO QUARANTINE WITH VACCINE. It means that you do not need to do any pre-departure or on arrival tests. You are not required to undergo mandatory quarantine. After arriving in Thailand under this program, you can immediately pick up your luggage, leave the airport or travel to any part of Thailand. There is no requirement to stay in a hotel or pre-arranged transportation.

How to Apply for Thailand Pass QR Code

Thailand Pass QR code can be obtained through the official website: https://tp.consular.go.th/

The processing time to obtain the Thailand Pass QR code is within 30 minutes. In some instances, it is automatically approved or in some instances, it is approved within 2 hours.

Once the Thailand Pass application has been approved, the traveler will receive the Thailand Pass QR code via email. The QR code document can be printed out or saved on a mobile device to be presented upon check-in before departure and also upon arrival in Thailand.

COVID Insurance for Thailand Pass

Foreigners applying for the Thailand Pass must submit a copy of the insurance policy or certificate. Based on experience, the common problem for Thailand Pass applications being rejected is that some insurance policies are not properly worded. Your COVID-19 insurance must expressly state the traveler’s name, policy number, start and end date and that it covers up to 10,000 USD medical expenses including COVID-19 while in Thailand.

You may use your own health insurance or purchase insurance from your own country, however, it is recommended to purchase from an insurance company in Thailand such as AXA Insurance Thailand to make sure that you meet the requirement in obtaining the Thailand Pass successfully.

Thailand Pass Assistance

Application for Thailand Pass is free of charge and you do not need any assistance to apply. However, there will be instances where some documents are not being uploaded properly or some information or documents that are deemed unacceptable to the Thai authorities that may cause delay or rejection of your Thailand Pass application, so it may be better to retain a service provider to assist you with the application.

    Good Day,
    Sorry just another question.
Re if the medical insurance cover has to be a minimum of USD10m and if the £8m is not quite $10m (it is $9 841,960.00 with the current exchange rate ) would the slight shortfall in USD be acceptable ie how much allowance do they give for conversion from £ to $ is allowed so that Thai Pass will be approved?

Also I see effective today Thailand has relaxed the remaining covid restrictions re masks, restaurants, bars, trading hours etc. Will this perhaps mean that the Mandatory Covid medical insurance cover will either fall away or be reduced from USD10m? Thank you.

      Hi Ginny,

The minimum amount coverage is USD 10,000.

I’m traveling to Thailand next month and I received the Thailand Pass for me and wife and kids. Do required to do PCR test for my kids before I travel? I’m full vaccinated with three doses and my wife with two doses.

    • June 17, 2022

      Dear Feras,

Make sure your children has Thailand Pass green color the same as you. They do not need to do RT PCR test since they are traveling with you.
      Thank you.

Do I need a Thailand pass for international transfer at the airport ?
I won’t go through immigration. Just in transit, flying from Australia to Germany.

    • June 17, 2022

      Dear Pascale,

No, you do not need to register for Thailand Pass if you are not passing through the Passport Control in Bangkok. You only need insurance and proof of vaccination or proof of COVID test.
      Thank you.

I feel very very distressed this shouldn’t be when you are travelling for a simple holiday. I do not have a computer I have to work this problem on my phone. What is the point of a Thailand pass when you have your documents. What was wrong with a form on the plane. It’s all fiddling and ridiculous. Giving people stress. Especially when you belive you have submitted all and hear nothing. My ticket cost me a fortune. They need to scrap these requirements.

    • July 1, 2022

      Hi Michell,

      Effective July 1st , 2022 it’s no longer required.

I arrive In HKT 6th August 2022 from SIN SQ736 In transit from Bali, and original country of mine Is Australia WA, however, your form will not allow me to fill In a date of arrival, but will accept a departure date, which Is 4th Sept, seems very odd to me. I know there Is quite some time before i leave for Phuket, but I always like to be well prepared & organised.
I leave Perth WA on the 8th June, stay In Bali for 60 days then onto HKT.
    Kind regards,Doug Gray
