Tourist Visa to Thailand

Thailand Visa

Thailand is a beautiful country. Its tropical weather and rich culture act as natural magnets for those who dwell on the far side of the world. A big chunk of Thailand’s revenues is obtained from the tourism industry, making her the tourism hub of the far-east. What if you live in a different country and would want to have a vacation in Thailand? For sure, it won’t be as easy as going for a walk in a park, roam around, and get off the place after. There are guidelines to be followed and documents to be prepared before you board the plane bound for the “land of smiles”.

Thai Tourist Visa

Visiting Thailand as Tourist

When you visit Thailand for the purpose of leisure, sightseeing, and personal enlightenment, you are a tourist. A tourist is not allowed to work or conduct business in Thailand. A tourist needs a tourist visa so he/she can stay in Thailand for a period of more than 30 days while doing his/her own explorations and excursions in the kingdom. Due to COVID 19 pandemic, most foreigners are now required to obtain a tourist visa from the Thai Embassy or Consulate.

What is a Thailand Tourist Visa?

A Thailand tourist visa is a stamp or document needed so you can stay in Thailand for a specific period of time, for the purpose of tourism. It is issued by a Thai embassy or consulate in your country and stamped on your passport upon arrival at the airport in Thailand. The tourist visa can also be extended if necessary. The tourist visa should not be confused with the visa exemption stamp issued at the airport.

There are certain countries that made agreements with the government of Thailand so their citizens can benefit from the visa exemption when entering Thailand as tourists. These tourists are allowed to stay in Thailand for 45 days to 90 days without the need to apply for a tourist visa from the Thai Embassy.

To apply for the COE, please register online by filling in your personal details, and upload supporting documents such as a copy of your passport, a copy of the valid visa, and COVID-19 travel insurance. The Embassy will screen and pre-approve the applicants who meet the requirements. Validity of the Tourist Visa and Permit to Stay

The validity of a tourist visa ranges from 3 months to 6 months, depending on the number of entries you make across the land border, or from the airport. If you arrived in Thailand through an international airport, you will be stamped with 60-day permission to stay.

Please do not be confused with the validity of the visa and the permit to stay. The validity of the visa as stated in your visa sticker is the time you have to use the visa or to enter Thailand. The permit to stay is the actual number of days you are allowed to stay in Thailand legally. You will receive the permit to stay when you arrive at the airport or border.

Want to stay in Thailand for 5, 10, or 20 years? Consider the Thai Elite Visa program.

Tourist Visa Extension in Thailand

If you enter Thailand via airport or land border, you will be stamped a 60-day permission of stay as a tourist in the immigration post, after which you will have to exit the country again on or before the expiration of your permission of stay. However, the tourist visa permit-to-stay can also be extended if you wish or need to stay longer in Thailand. You will have to file an application for an extension of stay at the Office of Immigration Bureau located at Government Complex Chaengwattana Road, Bangkok with contact center number 1178. Bear in mind that the success of an extension of stay is solely at the discretion of the immigration officer attending to your application.

Update: Foreigners who are currently in Thailand may apply for a 60-day COVID 19 extension at any local immigration office for a fee of 1,900 Thai baht. You may visit your local immigration office on or before May 29, 2021.

    Hello Visa team,
I am a professional life coach from Germany doing surgery companion trips for a living. I am currently in Hyderabad, India, and my next client wants for me to travel to Bangkok with her for surgery.
How do I go about that now?
Procedures are not fully clear for me at this time .

      Dear Mona,
      Good day.
The COE application and issuance in India has been suspended, therefore no one at this time can travel from India to Thailand.

Yes, you definitely need to apply for the visa and COE prior to coming to Thailand. You must apply for the Tourist Visa which will allow you to stay in Thailand for up to 60 days from date of arrival. You need to secure your flight itinerary, COVID 19 insurance, ASQ Hotel for 14 days and other documents required by the Thai Consulate in Dubai. Kindly call the consulate for more information.

      Dear Michelle,
      Good day.
Yes, you need to have a COE or certificate of entry to travel to Thailand. You may get a COE based on Visa Exemption of 45 days or you can get a COE under a Tourist visa or even a Non Immigrant visa as long as you apply for this visa from the Thai Embassy in Manila.
For the application of COE under Visa Exemption, you do not need to contact the Thai Embassy. The application will be processed online. You only need to make sure that you have booked the ASQ Hotel and you have purchased COVID 19 insurance.
      Thank you.
