US Visa Interview Thailand

How to Expedite Your US Visa Interview Appointment in Thailand

If you need to travel urgently to the United States, whether due to a medical emergency, a family death, or an unexpected business event, you may qualify for an expedited or urgent US visa interview appointment in Thailand. The embassy and consulate offer limited expedited slots, so approval depends on your situation and appointment availability. Since you can only submit one expedited request, it’s essential to meet all requirements and prepare strong documentation before applying.

Who qualifies for an expedited US interview appointment in Thailand?

The US Embassy considers expedited appointment requests for business travel, study, or exchange programs (F, M, and J visas), and emergencies related to health or death. Each request is reviewed individually.

You may qualify for an expedited appointment if your travel to the United States is related to:

  • Medical emergencies – You or someone you are accompanying requires urgent medical treatment in the US.
  • Funeral or death of an immediate family member – You need to attend a funeral or assist with repatriation.
  • Urgent, unplanned business travel – You must attend a last-minute meeting, training, or event that cannot be rescheduled.
  • Study or exchange program deadlines – Your academic or exchange program begins within 30 days, and no regular appointments are available.

Travel plans for weddings, graduations, visiting pregnant relatives, attending annual conferences, or taking last-minute vacations do not qualify for expedited appointments.

Required Documents For Expedited US Interview Appointments

The documents you need will depend on the reason for requesting an expedited interview at the US Embassy or Consulate in Thailand. If you provide false or misleading information about your travel urgency, it will be recorded and may affect the final decision on your visa application.

Medical Needs

If you need to travel to the US for urgent medical treatment, or to accompany a relative or employer who requires it, you must provide:

  • A letter from your doctor explaining the medical condition and the reason why you are seeking treatment in the US
  • A letter from the US-based physician or hospital confirming they are ready to provide treatment, along with an estimate of the cost
  • Proof of how you will cover the expenses of the treatment

Funeral or Death

If you need to travel to the US to attend the funeral of an immediate family member or to help with repatriation arrangements, you must provide:

  • A letter from the funeral director with their contact information, details of the deceased, and the date of the funeral
  • Proof that the deceased is your immediate relative, such as a birth or marriage certificate

Urgent Business Travel

If you need to travel to the US for an urgent business matter that could not have been planned in advance, you may request an expedited appointment. You must provide either one of the following:

  • A letter of invitation from the US company explaining the urgency, purpose of your visit, and how either the local or US company will suffer a significant loss of opportunity without an expedited appointment
  • Proof of a necessary training program in the US lasting three months or less, supported by letters from both the local employer and the US company. Both letters must explain the training and how either the local or US company will suffer a significant loss of opportunity without an expedited appointment

Students or Exchange Students

If you need to travel to the US to start or resume a valid study or exchange program within 30 days, and no regular visa appointments are available, you may request an expedited appointment. This option only applies if you have not been denied a visa at the US Embassy or Consulate within the past three months.

You must include supporting documents with your request. If you fail to submit them, or if the attachments exceed 2MB, your request may be denied. You must also provide:

  • The original Form I-20 or DS-2019 showing your program’s start date within 30 days
  • Proof that you have paid the SEVIS fee (if applicable)

Treaty Traders and Treaty Investors Visas

The US E1 Visa (Treaty Trader) and US E2 Visa (Treaty Investor) are available to citizens of countries that have commerce and navigation treaties with the US. Thailand is one of those countries.

If you plan to request an expedited E-Visa appointment, you will need to submit all the supporting application documents to this email: [email protected]. The US Embassy or Consulate in Thailand will not consider your expedited appointment request until all of these documents have been submitted.

How to Request an Expedited Interview Appointment at the US Embassy or Consulate in Thailand

Before submitting an expedited appointment request, you must pay the visa fee and prepare the documents that clearly support the urgency of your travel. While you may include scheduling constraints, you cannot request a specific interview date or time.

With that said, here are the steps to requesting an expedited interview appointment at the US Embassy in Bangkok and the US Consulate in Chiang Mai:

  1. Schedule the First Available Appointment: To request an expedited interview, log in to your profile at www.ustraveldocs.com/th and schedule the earliest appointment available, even if the date falls after your intended travel. This step is required before submitting an expedited request.
  2. Submit the Expedited Request Form: Once you have scheduled the appointment, an “Emergency Request” option will appear on the left side of the screen. Click this option and complete the form by explaining your urgent need to travel and uploading proof to support your request.
  3. Wait for the Decision: After you submit your request, the US Embassy or Consulate in Thailand will review it and send a response by email within 1 to 2 business days.
  4. Log Back in Your Profile: Upon receiving your approved ‘expedited appointment request’, you will receive an email instructing you to log in to the site again and reschedule your interview to an earlier date. Your original interview date will remain unchanged until you complete this step. To proceed, click the “Reschedule Appointment” option on the left side of the screen.
  5. Cancel Your Old Appointment: Before you can reschedule your expedited appointment, you must first cancel your original appointment.
  6. Schedule the Expedited Interview: After canceling your original appointment, you can schedule your interview for the approved date. Click the “New Appointment” option on the left side, select your visa type, and review your application details. When you reach the visa payment page, click “Continue,” as the system will recognize that your visa fee has already been paid. You’ll then see available times that match your approved expedited date. Select your preferred time and click “Schedule Appointment.”
  7. Print the Appointment Confirmation Page: Once rescheduled, print your new appointment confirmation and bring it to the interview. Print the appointment confirmation page and bring it with you to your interview.

Keep in mind that applicants who were granted an expedited appointment but were later denied a visa at the US Embassy or Consulate in Thailand will not be allowed to request another expedited appointment.

Tips for Requesting an Expedited US Interview Appointment

Proper preparation is important when requesting an expedited interview at the US Embassy in Bangkok or the US Consulate in Chiang Mai. As you have only one opportunity to submit this request, it must be done correctly. Here are two tips that can help you avoid delays or denials:

  • Not Meeting the Criteria: Some applicants submit requests without confirming whether they qualify. If your travel is not urgent or does not fall under one of the accepted categories, your request will be denied, and you will not be able to submit another. So, carefully review the criteria before proceeding.
  • Submitting Weak or Unclear Evidence: Even if your reason for requesting qualifies, the embassy requires clear and specific proof. Vague letters or missing documents may result in a denied request. Before submitting, confirm that all documents directly support the urgency of your travel.

Having a team of US immigration specialists on your side can make the process smoother and your request more persuasive, helping you avoid these common issues. They can guide you through the requirements, assist with preparing the necessary documents, and manage the appointment request with the US Embassy or Consulate in Thailand.
