Sandbox Program Reduced to 5 Days; Thailand Pass Application Temporarily Suspended;

Easier and Cheaper Entry to Thailand

Entering Thailand will get a little easier, and a bit cheaper. The CCSA approved the use of rapid antigen tests to screen international arrivals for COVID-19 starting December 16. The ATK method (antigen test kit) will be replacing the RT-PCR test, meaning travelers won’t need to wait long before they are allowed to travel throughout Thailand. The new entry requirement will be applicable only to air travelers entering under the No Quarantine Program (low-risk countries) and Sandbox Program.

Sandbox Program Reduced to 5 Days

The CCSA also approved to shorten the stay under the Sandbox Program to five days. Under the Sandbox Program, fully vaccinated travelers from non-listed countries are allowed to roam freely within the 19 approved cities or provinces instead of undergoing a mandatory quarantine at a hotel.

Thailand Pass Application Temporarily Suspended

The Thailand Pass system will temporarily suspend the registration for Thailand Pass QR code for travelers arriving in Thailand on December 16 and onwards. The registration for Thailand Pass will resume on December 1, 2021.

For travelers arriving in Thailand before December 16, 2021, the application for Thailand Pass is open as usual. You may visit https://tp.consular.go.th/

COVID Extension

The Thai Immigration Bureau extended the deadline for the COVID extension applications to January 25, 2022. For foreigners who are currently in Thailand, regardless of your visa type or category, you are still allowed to request a 60-day COVID extension at any immigration office. The extension of stay will commence on the date of application. Please note that this extension of stay is not automatic, you must apply for this at your local immigration office and it will be at the discretion of the officer to approve the application.

What is the Best COVID Insurance for Thailand

Based on experience, the common problem for Thailand Pass applications being rejected is that some insurance policies are not properly worded. Your COVID 19 insurance must expressly state that it covers up to 50,000 USD medical expenses including COVID 19.
