How to Apply for the Certificate of Entry (COE)?

Step 1: Visit COE online portal/website and register by filling in your personal details, and upload supporting documents such as a copy of passport, copy of the valid visa, and COVID-19 travel insurance. The Embassy will screen and pre-approve the applicants who meet the requirements. Please check the status of your application after 1-3 working days.

Step 2: The applicants can check their status online if they have been pre-approved. They will be contacted by email if the Embassy requires more documents. The applicants who are pre-approved passengers can then buy flight tickets and book their ASQ or SHA+ hotels. Copy of the flight ticket and the ASQ hotel or SHA+ Hotel booking confirmation has to be uploaded in order to get the COE. Please check the status of your application after 1-3 working days.

Step 3: When the COE has been approved, the applicants can check their status online and click to download their COE.

How long does it take to obtain the COE?

It is strongly recommended that the applicant spares at least 15 working days before the travel date to apply for the COE. If you do not have a valid visa, it is recommended to secure your visa before applying for the COE.

  • Copy of Travel insurance policy that covers COVID and no less than 100,000 USD. The policy must cover the whole duration of your stay or the duration of your visa. Please print the insurance certificate and all pages of the terms and conditions on the COVID-19 coverage and medical benefits. You may be refused to board the flight if you could not show that the insurance meets this requirement.

    Good morning Rex,

I am a British citizen but have been working in the Republic of Korea for the last 3 months (without any other travel to other countries). I am flying directly to Phuket for 14 days from Seoul. When registering for a COE do i register from the UK or ROK? Also, my partner is travelling from the UK, can we use the same Sandbox Hotel booking reference for us both, booked for 2 adults for the same dates?

    Thank you for your assistance.

    • October 21, 2021

      Dear Kirsten,

      Good day.
When you apply for the COE on the official website, you use Korea as country of departure and use British as Nationality. For your partner, he use UK as country of departure and British as Nationality. yes, you can stay in the same hotel and room but each of you will be issued your individual SHABA ID.

      Thank you.

Please contact your airline since COE is not required for transit passengers. You only need to have RT PCR test before the flight and COVID insurance. For insurance, please visit: http://www.siam-legal.com/axa/-insurance

    Hello,

I will be staying with friends in the phuket sandbox at an sha+ hotel which has 2 bedrooms and can accommodate 4. The Reservation is under my name. For my 2 other friends can they use my reservation even though their name does not appear on the reservation? If not how do I prove they will be staying with me?

    Thank you.

      Dear Mike,

      Good day.
Yes, you can make that arrangement with your SHA+ hotel in Phuket. However, for the COE application or Thailand Pass application, each person will have their own SHABA ID which will be provided by the hotel.

Sorry another question, if i am visa exempt do I still need a bank statement? or can I just show that i have enough cash at the airport?
because currently I am in Dubai and my bank is in Canada so I won’t be able to get an official bank statement!

      Thanks so much

    • October 21, 2021

      Dear Ali,

      Good day.
The Thai Consulate in Dubai will not require bank statement. If you are residing in Dubai now, you can apply for the COE and it is not required to provide bank statement. You only need to provide flight booking, Hotel booking and COVID insurance. To purchase a COVID insurance, please visit: http://www.siam-legal.com/axa/-insurance

Yes, you need to apply for the COE and you have to fill out the T8 Health Form. You also need to prepare a roundtrip flight, hotel booking, COVID insurance and RT PCR tests before traveling to Thailand and upon arrival.

I am a bit anxious about this COE. It says on official website that it take 1-3 workings for pre-approval. But it has been 4 days for me now, I still have not got any reply. I tried to contact the embassy and have been put on queue for 3 hours, still no one pick up the phone.
What shall I do? I can not book my PCR test and everything else until I have this pre-approved.

    Good day,Rex
Previously I`ve already received the electronic COE certificate .

Unfortunately, due to the cancellation of my flight I had to purchase tickets for a flight of another airline
But I cannot get a new COE, the system does not register me, it says that I am already registered and received my COE.
I also can’t make adjustments (confirm / edit travel), the system prompts me to download the old COE certificate.
The same difficulties regarding COE of my family’s members (certificates received, but due to flight cancellation they are not correct)
I`m asking for recommendations on how to proceed.
    Best regards

    • October 15, 2021

      Dear Sergei,

      Good day.
Please check the remarks section of your COE. If your new flight is within 72 hours from the original flight, you may use the same COE. If you must change the details in your COE, please call directly the Thai Embassy to cancel or reject the COE in order for your to edit the flight details.

      Thank you.

No, you do not need to wait for the result at the airport. You can wait for the result in your room. You will stay in your SHA+ Hotel room until you have the negative result. After which, you are free to explore Phuket.

At present, there is no official confirmation of reported news that quarantine requirements will be removed for travellers from certain countries such as the US from 1 November 2021. We will publish updates about Thailand’s entry requirements as soon as they are officially confirmed.

    Good morning Rex,

I have a question for you. I have already booked my flights and hotel for the 6th of November and I was awaiting updates to the COE process following the CCSA meeting today before applying.

However, now that they announced a new system starting from 1st November (Thailand Pass), I am unsure whether to even apply for COE now or wait until new system is out on aforementioned date. If I wait, will have enough time to process paperwork/approval within 5 days? As a British citizen as I am eligible for visa exemption.

    • October 14, 2021

      Dear Will,

      Good day.
As long as there is no official guideline for November 1st, I would recommend that you still apply for the COE. If the COE is issued, then you have a document for your entry to Thailand even if the “Thailand Pass” won’t be implemented until perhaps October 28.

      Thank you.

The reason for that, there is NO OFFICIAL Guidelines. The news reports may be true but no official announcement has been made and it has not been published in the Royal Gazette. You can wait until October 28-31 for the official guideline. If you want to apply now, you still have to apply for the Quarantine or Sandbox options.

How should I proceed? Thanks in advance!

    • October 12, 2021

      Dear Yves,

      Good day.
The Bangkok Sandbox or whatever the program the government will implement in November, it is not official just yet, therefore it will not show in the COE website. Based on experience it will happen 3 days before the actual start date of the program. You can expect that the website will be updated maybe October 25 to 28 for arrivals on November 1. I know, the time is very tight. You might want to apply for COE now based on Quarantine Program.

      Dear Ade,

It might be that the passport number was not correct when you submitted the application. In that case, you may create a new application since it will not interfere with the other application if the previous application had the wrong passport number.

But how do I do that? I am going nuts here trying to find out what to do …. Hope you can help. thanks in advance

If you chose Visa Exemption category, you need to attach bank statement and flight to Thailand with exit flight within 30 days. This will qualify the requirement under visa exemption.

It is very clear. If you have no visa, then you choose visa exemption of 30 days. You choose Number 11 (Visa Exempt) if you have no valid Thai Visa. Do not choose a category like STV if you do not actually have an STV.

      Dear Ryan,

      Good day.
Yes, you need to get a COE even if you are coming to Thailand as tourist under visa exemption scheme. The COE application will take around 1 week to process. You may choose whether you arrive through Phuket Sandbox or Bangkok Quarantine if you are fully vaccinated. Should you require assistance for COE application, please check this page: http://www.siam-legal.com/coe

Please let me know thank you so much!

      Dear Ricky,

      Good day.
Yes you need a COE or certificate of entry for Thailand. Your COE will be under Quarantine or Sandbox Program. At the moment, for COE applications under Sandbox program, only Phuket and Samui are in the system. Bangkok or Pattaya might be added on November 1. If you need any assistance for the COE, please check our website: http://www.siam-legal.com/coe

Good day. Any insurance company can be used as long as the insurance company will be able to issue a letter confirming the important information regarding your insurance such as: your name, start date and end date of the insurance, it must state that you have more than 100,000 USD medical coverage and COVID 19 is included in the medical coverage.

    Hi Rex,

I am about to process my Non-B visa via the Thaievisa COE platform, which I understand is now the way to apply? I have all the WP3 docs already and am aware of the overall requirements. My local Embassy is London. I’m reluctant to book the flight in case of delays, but I’m wondering how much time I should allow for approval of COE and printing Visa in my passport, so I know when to book my flight out to Phuket. Do you have a rough idea?

    Regards,
    Dan

    • September 28, 2021

      Dear Daniel,

      Good day.
There is no need for the visa sticker in your passport. The visa will be issued to you and it will be sent by email. The process may take 1 week or two weeks depending if all documents that you uploaded on the application portal are correct. As for the COE application, this may take 3 to 5 days.

      Thank you.

    • September 24, 2021

      Dear Matt,

      Good day.
You do not need a COE since Bangkok to Phuket travel is domestic travel. However, you need to adhere to the local entry requirements of Phuket. I believe at this time, they require that you are fully vaccinated in order to enter Phuket. But this may change, you may be allowed to enter if you have a COVID test prior to traveling to Phuket. I recommend for you to contact your airline about the entry requirements.

      Thank you.

Yes, travelers coming from Malaysia are required to obtain a Certificate of Entry or COE to travel to Thailand. You also need to book a quarantine hotel for the mandatory 2-week quarantine stay. You also need to have a COVID insurance. Dear Thomas,

      Good day.
If you will apply for the COE under Phuket Sandbox, you must be in the US for 21 days prior to coming to Phuket. If you only stay in the US for 14 days, the embassy will issue the COE under quarantine program. You can apply for the COE in Belgium if your flight itinerary is Belgium-Dubai-Phuket. You can choose the category: Visa Exemption.

The plan for the Bangkok Sandbox has been postponed until November 2021. We will know if this plan will push through and we will know the official guidelines, by the end of October. I recommend for you to apply for the proper tourist visa at the Thai Embassy while you wait for this plan. In the meantime, you can also consider a better option of coming to Thailand through Phuket Sandbox (after you have the visa). If you have no enough time to apply for the new COE or to amend the approved COE, you can still use the same COE. Just make sure that your new flight is within 72 hours from the original flight whether it is earlier or later. Also, please make sure that you have informed the ASQ or the SHA+ hotel about it. Lastly, make sure that your RT PCR test is still valid for your new flight. The test must be takes within 72 hours before that flight. If you are doing the Sandbox, make sure you updated the date of arrival for your COVID test at the airport.

When trying to resubmit the application via coethailand.mfa.go.th, it didn’t give me a new ID code and when trying to retrieve it, the system gave me the same as the original one. Dear Ben,
You can only apply for a new COE when the first COE expires. The COE will expire when the original flight in your COE has already arrived in Thailand. You can apply for COE one day after the proposed arrival had passed.
Another option, you can call the Thai Embassy and request to cancel the COE so that you can either edit the flight details or apply for a new one.

Your current application will expire in 15 days, so yes, you need to apply again later for your new flight or itinerary.

    Hey Rex,

Is it true that you can only apply for COE 30 days in advance of departure? What about hotel reservations and flight? If you’re denied entry will they give you a refund of are we expected to book everything after our approval and thus give our more chance that we don’t have a plane ticket or early bird rates for the hotels?

    Greetings!

    • August 30, 2021

      Dear Astrid,
      Good day.
Yes, you can only apply for the COE as early as 30 days before your flight. The COE application is 100% to be approved. There may be delays due to being rejected but eventually it will be approved if you provide the documents required by the embassy.
Should you require any assistance in applying for the COE or certificate of entry, please check this page:

    Hi, Rex

    1. How long does COE valid?
    2. Can I apply now for November?
    3. If things will be changed (for example sandbox cancelled, or country removed from SHA list) after COE fully approved, do I still be able to enter Thailand with that approved COE?

    • August 30, 2021

      Dear Kostiantyn,
      Good day.
The COE is valid only for the date specified in the COE.
You can apply not earlier than 30 days before your flight.
It is recommended to apply for COE 3 to 2 weeks before the flight. If there is any changes, you need to update the COE unless it is a delayed or cancelled flight, in which case you can use the same COE.
      Thank you.

I have a retirement visa with multiple entry, do I need a COE?

    • August 30, 2021

      Dear Richard,
      Good day.
Yes, you still need to apply and obtain a COE or certificate of entry. You can apply for the COE under the Non Immigrant O long stay category if you have a retirement visa and re-entry permit. You also need to have COVID 19 insurance and you can choose to arrive in Bangkok with quarantine or under Phuket Sandbox without quarantine.
Should you require any assistance in applying for the COE or certificate of entry, please check this page:

      Dear rex

I think have a problem with my transit date..
I fly out on the 1st of September
Land in Dubai 1st of September
I fly from Dubai on 2nd September at 0105am to Phuket and land in Phuket at 1020 on the 2nd of September..
      On my COE is says
My date of departure is 1st September
My date of transit is the 1st September
My date of arrival is the 2 September

Is the 1st of September the correct date for transit?
      Or will this need amending?
      Thank you

    • August 30, 2021

      Dear Jed,
      Good day.
You do not need to amend it. The important information is the date of departure and arrival and the flight numbers.

      Dear Lars,
As of today, I can only find this information on the website of the Thai Embassy in Austria. However I checked the other Thai Embassies, they do not explicitly state this information. I recommend for you to contact the Thai Embassy where you will get the COE.

My passport expires in 3 months, does that make it ineligible to apply for a COE?

    • August 4, 2021

      Dear Marcus,
Most Thai Embassies will issue the COE if the passport is more than 6 months especially if you are entering under Visa Exemption. If you are entering Thailand under work visa or marriage visa for example, you can get a COE and enter Thailand as long as you have re-entry permit and your visa is still valid even if the passport is less than 6 months.
      Thank you.

    • August 5, 2021

      Dear Kelvin,
      Good day.
If the COE has been pre-approved only, you can upload the flight details that you want. If the COE has been finally approved, then you must ask the embassy to cancel it and you can amend or edit the flight details. Calling or emailing the embassy will be your problem or even nightmare as they do not answer calls.
      Thank you.

      Dear Ardit,
Please refer to the remarks in your COE. If the flight was cancelled or delayed, you can use the same COE as long as all other documents are still valid. I assume you read that already, because you are supposed to sign that also.

hi everyone! will appreciate your help. I submitted my family COE applications to 2 adults and 2 children (aged 0.5 and 2 years old) – the parents got approved but the childrens rejected as “the should upload pre pid covid19 tests in phuket” – based on my understanding children under the age of 6 are exampt?! could you please advise?
    thanks!

    • August 3, 2021

      Dear Ilia,
      Good day.
My understanding is that all travelers must book pre-paid COVID test regardless of age. For children below 6 years old, it will be saliva test. Which embassy or consulate rejected the application?

      Thanks a lot REX!
Tel-Aviv thai embassy rejected the application.

We are staying for 15 days in Phuket – shall we book 3 tests for the kids under the age of 6 or only one? as I understood that children are required for only 1 test with landing.
      Again, huge thank you!

    • August 4, 2021

      Dear Ilia,
I believe that children are required to have COVID tests. They can do saliva-sample test if the children are below 6 years old.

      Dear MA,
Yes, all of the children and adults must have RT PCR tests before traveling to Thailand.
In Phuket the children must also have COVID test, they can use saliva test for children below 6 years old and normal COVID tests for the other children and adults.

Is it now mandatory to have Insurance that must cover TRAVEL as well as Covid 19 which must meet the 100,000USD coverage requirement to enter thailand?
The Thai Embassy Londons website requires no such insurance(as of 02/08/2021) only requires Covid19 insurance.
    Please advise, regards

    • August 3, 2021

      Dear Edwin,
      Good day.
Technically it is a travel insurance that you have to purchase. But it has to cover COVID 19 medical expenses.
To purchase the correct COVID 19 insurance, please check this page: https://www.siam-legal.com/axa-insurance

      Dear Rex,
Thanks for your response in respect on insurance and I am bit confused.
I purchased the appropriate covid 19 insurance from the Thai Embassy London website https://covid19.tgia.org/ which covered me for covid 19 medical expenses ONLY and entered thailand with no problems on 7/6/2021 on a non immigrant visa.
Is it right to assume that now and in the future, unless you have Covid 19 Travel Insurance (which is somewhat expensive for 180 days) you could be refused entry!!!

    • August 4, 2021

      Dear Edwin,
Yes, as long as COE is required for all travellers, the COVID 19 insurance will be required. If the COVID 19 pandemic will persist, it means COVID insurance and COE will still be required by Thailand.
      Thank you.
