Thailand Pass

Thailand Pass

What is Thailand Pass?

The Thailand Pass system is a free-of-charge web-based system designed to make the documentation process of travelers entering Thailand more efficient than the Certificate of Entry application.

Just like the Certificate of Entry, it will collect data for entry forms required, but what makes it better than the Certificate of Entry (COE) is that it collects both travel and health information like vaccine certificates and it will help facilitate the filing of the TM6 and T8 Forms.

Through the Thailand Pass system, the expected documents and other paperwork requirements imposed on by the COVID-19 will be addressed.

The goal of the new Thailand Pass is to help support the country’s “Ease of Travel” system after it reopens and to expedite the process of filling out information and uploading travel documents.

Who Can Apply for the Thailand Pass

The Thailand Pass is required for all travelers whether Thai or foreigners based on the following travel restrictions:

  1. Fully Vaccinated for the Test and Go Program
Fully vaccinated travelers, both Thai and foreigners will be allowed to enter Thailand without mandatory quarantine or sandbox stay. They only need to stay for 1 night in an ASQ or SHA+ Hotel while they wait for the COVID 19 RT-PCR test result that was taken upon arrival and another stay for 1 night in an ASQ or SHA+ hotel on Day 5. Unvaccinated children below 18 years old may travel with vaccinated parents without quarantine.
  2. Fully Vaccinated under Sandbox Program
Fully vaccinated travelers may also  enter Thailand without quarantine under the Sandbox Programs such as  Pattaya, Hua Hin, Phuket or Samui Sandbox. They are required to spend a minimum of 7 nights in an accredited SHA+ Hotel in these Sandbox areas before they will be allowed to travel to other parts of Thailand. Unvaccinated children below 18 years old may travel with vaccinated parents without quarantine under the sandbox program.
  3. Non-Vaccinated under Quarantine Program
Non-vaccinated or partially vaccinated travelers are still allowed to travel to Thailand. They must undergo a mandatory quarantine of 10 nights in an accredited ASQ or AQ quarantine hotel before they will be allowed to travel to other parts of Thailand.

What are the Requirements for the Thailand Pass

In support of the “Ease of Travel”, there are only a few requirements that one will need to be able to obtain a QR entry code and enter Thailand. Listed below are the requirements:

  • Passport
  • Vaccination Certificate or Card
  • COVID-19 Health Insurance Certificate
  • Confirmed ASQ hotel booking or Confirmed SHA+ hotel booking (with pre-booked RT PCR test)
  • Flight Booking

How to Apply for Thailand Pass

The Thailand Pass System is a QR code generating system.

To obtain a QR entry code or Thailand Pass ID, travelers will have to:

  • Register at Thailand Pass web portal
  • Input personal details
  • Upload the required documents
  • Receive a confirmation email after registration (within seconds after registration)
  • Wait for the Thailand Pass approval (within an hour or up to 7 days)

And if approved, you will receive an email of your QR Entry Code or Thailand Pass ID which you will use upon entering Thailand.

1. Apply for Thailand Pass by Yourself

You may apply for the Thailand Pass directly on the MFA website: https://tp.consular.go.th/

If you have already applied by yourself and you need to check the status, please go to: https://tp.consular.go.th/en/check-status

If you already applied and you still did not get the Thailand Pass or you were rejected, please email: tfcovid19@mfa.go.th and foreignvac@gmail.com

2. Thailand Pass Application Service by Siam Legal

Application for the Thailand Pass is free-of-charge and you do not need any assistance to apply for it. However, there may be instances where some individuals may voluntarily choose a paid service provider such as a law firm to provide consultation, assist them to prepare their documents, and submit them on their behalf. Individuals may encounter problems with their documents that are not being uploaded properly or some information or documents that are deemed unacceptable to the Thai embassy or consulate that may cause delay or rejection of your Thailand Pass application, so it may be helpful to retain a service provider to assist you with the application. These paid Thailand Pass services offered by Siam Legal are listed below.

How long does it take to Process the Thailand Pass

The processing time for the Thailand Pass application is 5 to 7 days depending on the Thai Embassy or Consulate where the application has been submitted. It is recommended to apply for the Thailand pass at least 7 days before your intended departure.

Recommended COVID Insurance

Based on experience, the common problem for  Thailand Pass applications being rejected and travelers being denied to board their flight is that some insurance policies are not properly worded. Your COVID 19 insurance must expressly state that it covers up to 50,000 USD medical expenses including COVID 19 and it must cover your whole stay in Thailand. The Thailand Pass system only accepts one attachment therefore it is important to have a one-page Certificate of Insurance with all the required information. Hi Rex,

I’m traveling from London to Bangkok and hope to arrive as soon as possible. As the Test & Go will resume on 1 Feb, on which day should I book the SHA Extra+ hotel? How long does it take for the application to process?

    Thanks a million.

    Hello!
I am a work permit holder and currently I am working in Thailand. I am looking at the opportunities to visit my family in Russia.
What rules of entering Thailand from Russia are applied to my case(work permit+non-immigrant visa)?
    Thank you!

    • January 28, 2022

      Dear Mariia,

It is the same as other travelers. You can choose to re-enter Thailand under Test and Go, Sandbox or Quarantine Program. You just choose the option that is convenient for you.

      Dear Julie,

      Good day.
You can leave Phuket on February 7 if you arrived before 6PM of January 31 and you had your test on that date also. If you arrived after 6PM of January 31, you will leave Phuket February 8th.

    Hi Rex,

Original date going to Phuket was on 25 Jan with thailand pass already on Jan 25th. Due to unfortunate circumstance, we were unable to proceed with the flight. Now, we already moved our flight to Feb 15th as well as the hotel and swab tests. I believe thailand pass is valid within 72hours only. Are we able to reapply for thailand pass after 72hrs with new details? Please advice.

    Cheers!

    • January 27, 2022

      Dear Michelle,

Yes, that is correct. Your Thailand Pass is only valid for 72 hours from the original date of arrival. If you are still coming to Thailand under Sandbox, you can reapply for a new Thailand Pass right now. If you are planning to enter under Test and Go, please wait until February 1.
      Thank you.

Hi, I’ve booked flights and hotel to arrive in Phuket on 13th February 2022 (we’re departing from the UK on 12th February). At the moment I can’t apply for test and go now, but I understand this will be available from the 1st February. If I apply for the 7 day sandbox now, so that I’m in plenty of time to get it approved, will it automatically change to the test and go rules when the new test and go rules come into effect on 1st Feb 2022? Many Thanks

    • January 27, 2022

      Dear Sue,

If you applied for the Sandbox Program now and got your approval, it will not automatically change into Test and Go by February, you must apply for a new application under the Test and Go Program. My suggestion is you must wait once the Test and Go Program will be open on the 1st of February.
      Thank you.

Do I need to present a negative PCR test at the airport when I am leaving Bangkok ?
I do wonder why you are not replying ?

    • January 27, 2022

      Dear Mic,

You have to follow the guidelines and measures announced by the respective country of your destination as well as your Airlines. This includes your certificate of vaccination and a negative RT-PCR test result. Please note that each Airlines has different requirement, and you should check these beforehand, to make sure you meet them.
      Thank you.

You can book different hotels. You can also have the Day 1 test in Bangkok and Day 5 test in another city such as Pattaya or Chiang Mai as long as the hotel you booked in that city has arranged the RT PCR test.

    Hello,
We are due to fly to Phuket soon on a sandbox entry. If our pre-flight PCR test is positive and we have to postpone our plans, will the Thai Govt accept a doctors letter to say we have recovered? Or do we have to wait for a negative PCR test to re-book? I’ve heard you can test positive for a while after recovery.

    Thank you

    • January 25, 2022

      Dear Cheryl,

According to the official Thailand Pass website: https://tp.consular.go.th/en/plan
“If RT-PCR result is positive or detected then medical certificate proof of COVID recovery at least 14 days but less than 90 days from onset or first date of detection is required”. I am not sure how will the airline handle this situation. It is best to check with your airline.

    Hey!

We just booked an international flight to phuket with a transit in bangkok. The domestic flight from bangkok to phuket is operated by bangkok airways and the flight number is PG5279 (03.02.2022, 17:10 – 19:15).
We also booked a 7 night stay at the SHA-extra+ “Krabi Heritage Hotel” in the Krabi sandbox. Furthermore we booked the transit from Phuket airport to the hotel and the 2 necessary RT-PCR-Tests (1 on arrival and one on day 5-6).

Now the question: We just tried to register for the ThailandPass and recognized that we can not choose our booked hotel. I think because we tried to register the Survanabhumi (BKK) airport as the first arrival port in Thailand. In that way we are only able to choose hotels in the Samui sandbox. How can we register in the right way? Because a domestic flight to Phuket international airport is allowed, when its the flight number PG5279, right? So we should be able to choose our hotel during the registration for the Thailand sandbox.

Another short question: Should we type in the international flight number to Bangkok in the registration for ThailandPass (first arrival port in Thailand) or the domestic flight to Phuket (PG5279)?

Thank you really much, we hope that you can help us!

    • January 24, 2022

      Dear Florian,

The sealed flight from BKK to Phuket will officially start on February 1 therefore it will come into the system on that day. Another option, you can register now, but use Phuket as airport of arrival and use PG5279 as flight number.
      Thank you.

    • January 18, 2022

      Dear Kajetan,

Travelers to Krabi, Phang-Nga, or Phuket can change accommodation twice within the first 7 days (can book 2 different hotels) within the province.

Travelers to Ko Samui, Ko Pha-ngan and Ko Tao can change accommodation three times within the first 7 days (can book 3 different hotels). But they must stay the first night on Ko Samui and must receive a negative result for their first RT-PCR test, before being able to change accommodation to other hotels on either Ko Samui, Ko Pha-ngan or Ko Tao. Or they can choose to book 3 different hotels on Ko Samui alone.

For convenience in applying for Thailand Pass, just book one hotel for the whole 7 nights.

      Thank you.

Malaysian citizens are visa exempted for 30 days but you need to register for Thailand Pass to enter Phuket Sandbox.

      Thank you.

I am required to fly to Phuket for the Phuket Sandbox. Does my return flight back to the UK also have to be from Phuket – or can it be from Bangkok to UK?

    • December 29, 2021

      Dear Jeff,

      Good day.
You can have an exit flight from Bangkok to the UK. Just bear in mean that you can travel to Bangkok only after you have spent 7 nights in Phuket.
      Thank you.

Hi, If I travel to Thailand for now how many days or night do I need to been quarantine at ASQ hotel?

    • December 29, 2021

      Dear Annie,

If you are vaccinated arriving in Bangkok, it will be 7 nights quarantine. If you are vaccinated arriving in Phuket, it will be 7 nights without quarantine.
If you are unvaccinated, you will quarantine for 10 nights.
If you are coming from Africa, you will quarantine for 14 nights.
      Thank you.

I m trying to get the pass for the first option it’s not working. Is the website down?

    • December 29, 2021

      Dear Mia,

      Good day.
The option 1 or Test and Go option is currently suspended for new applicants. The program is still ongoing for those who already got approved. But it is closed for new applicants.
      Thank you.

Is Thai Pass a single entry? Can I re-enter after visiting to Cambodia for 3 days?
    Thanks,

    • December 29, 2021

      Dear H Nguyen,

The Thai Pass is only valid for arrival stated in the QR code. If you will travel to Cambodia and return to Thailand, you will apply for a new Thailand Pass.
      Thank you.

I have been approved under the Test & Go and received my Thai-pass. I am required to obtain a negative RT-PCR 72 hours before travel. Will a Rapid Antigen Test also work (results given the same day). There is a backlog of RT_PCR tests here in the USA and I may not received the results of the RT-PCR test 72 hours prior to my fight departure.

    • December 29, 2021

      Dear Erik,

The requirement is RT PCR test. I recommend for you to go to a bigger city with more options of clinic where you can have your RT PCR test.
      Thank you.

Apart from the Phuket Sandbox, are the other Sandbox destinations listed here still open?

    Hi Rex,
I am originally booked to land in Bangkok on 16/01/2022. I do not have Thai Pass as i understood that you needed to apply for the pass 14 days before arrival. Anyhow, my question is, Can i continue with my journey to Bangkok but get on a flight to Phuket without leaving the Airport and avail of the Phuket Sandbox program? meaning can i make my arrival in Bangkok Airport a transit visit but never leave airport and continue straight to Phuket? This will be a different airline provider to my initial one.

    • December 29, 2021

      Dear Owen,

      Good day.
If you would like to apply for Thailand Pass under Phuket Sandbox program, your flight to Phuket must not stop in Bangkok. You can get a flight to Phuket with transit in Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Doha, Helsinki or Singapore.
      Thank you.

The support@tp.consular.go.th seems to be for IT problems, sending messages to it regarding your application, does not work. It seems you have to re-apply for every change to your application, this must be causing a lot of churn.

Calling the help line +66 2 572 8422, will involve a long wait, and your call may drop out before you get through. The other numbers +66 65 205 4247 etc. do not work.

I just want to double check for my trip to Bangkok. My scheduled to visit on 24/12/21 and I already got Thailand pass with QR code. So can i still go for ASQ hotel with one night test and go. So do I need to follow this quarantine law or not?

    • December 23, 2021

      Dear Shu,

      Good day.
Travelers who have received their Thailand Pass QR Code can still enter Thailand under the date of arrival and program they have been approved for.

I have been approved for the Thailand pass system and am scheduled to visit on 2/6/22. based on this new information, will i be required to quarantine for the 7-10 days? or is it only for those that have not been approved for the thai pass yet? I am confused with the way this information is presented. any help will be appreciated!

just to double check we have received our Thailand Pass Test and Go QR codes on 23 November 2021 for travel into Thailand on 24th December 2021 from Australia. Can we still enter without quarantine (understand we will need to undergo one night under the Test and Go system) and we able to move freely through Thailand after that night?

AR we are in the same boat as you- I am feeling like the answers are a bit vague. We have our Thai passes and need to know if we will have to quarantine beyond the 24 hrs until that pcr comes back.

    • December 24, 2021

      Hi Ashlee,

If the PCR test comes back later than 24 hours, you will have to stay at your hotel later than 24 hours.

      Thank you.

I was about to obtain my boarding pass as I have my Thailand Pass for Dec 28th through Jan 5th. The Airline would not allow me to receive my boarding pass because I was flying to BKK then to Phuket. This was approved on my Thailand Pass, but they said Thai govt would not allow me to fly from BKK to Phuket.
Now I’m trying to get another flight but it will be an arrival now for Dec 30th. Will my Thailand Pass still be good?

    • December 27, 2021

      Dear Dennis,

Yes, you can use the same Thailand Pass as long as you enter Thailand on the date stated in the Thailand Pass.
      Thank you.

Hi can you please clarify this point – ‘Passengers who arrive in Thailand under Test & Go / Sandbox must undergo their 2nd Covid test at Govt designated facilities (no additional cost)’

I have had my Thai Pass approved, and have paid for my test upon arrival at Phuket airport, but just wondering if this means I need to do another test, or whether this original test I booked should have been free?

    Thank you

    • December 22, 2021

      Dear Niamh,

The 6th or 7th Day COVID test is free. The test on arrival is not free.
      Thank you.
