What is Thailand Pass?

The Thailand Pass system is a free-of-charge web-based system designed to make the documentation process of travelers entering Thailand more efficient and faster. The Thai Pass QR code is required for all travelers entering Thailand.

The application will be approved by the central authorities in Thailand and not the Royal Thai Embassy or Consulate. Therefore, please allow sufficient time for approval after registering for the Thailand Pass.

The goal of the system is to help support the country’s “Ease of Travel” system after it reopens and to expedite filling out information and uploading travel documents.

Who Can Apply for the Thailand Pass

Thai Pass is required for all travelers entering Thailand, whether they be Thai nationals or foreigners.

From May 1, 2022, Thai Pass application and approval requirements will depend on a traveler’s vaccination status.

  1. Fully Vaccinated travelers will be able to enter Thailand under the No Quarantine program. A vaccinated traveler does not need to book 1 night’s accommodation in an approved SHA+ hotel or complete an RT-PCR test on arrival.Fully vaccinated foreigners will need to provide proof of COVID insurance and their vaccination certificate when applying for Thailand Pass. Thai Nationals only need to provide their vaccination certificate as insurance is not required. Unvaccinated children under 18 years old may travel with vaccinated parents without quarantine. The parents must include the children’s personal information in the application.
  2. Unvaccinated travelers will have 2 options for entering Thailand:
    • Unvaccinated travelers will be able to enter Thailand under the existing 5-day Alternate Quarantine program; OR
    • Unvaccinated travelers will be able to enter the No Quarantine program by completing an RT-PCR test and uploading the result into their Thai Pass application. The test cannot be older than 72 hours before their departure date.

What are the Requirements for the Thailand Pass

To support “Ease of Travel’, entry requirements have been eased from May 1, 2022. You can now apply with fewer documents and obtain a QR entry code faster.

The document requirements are listed below.

  • A medical insurance policy with at least USD$ 10,000 minimum coverage

Unvaccinated travelers (No Quarantine)

For unvaccinated travelers who would like to enter Thailand under the No Quarantine program, instead of submitting a vaccination certificate or card, you must submit a negative result of the RT PCR COVID-19 test issued within 72 hours before traveling to Thailand.

Flight Details

The next step of the process is to book your flight to Thailand. Although it is not required to submit a proof of flight booking, the Thai Pass system will require the following information of your flight:

  • Country of Departure
  • Date of Arrival in Thailand
  • Flight Number
  • Estimated Exit Date from Thailand

Hotel Booking or Address  in Thailand

The Thailand Pass system does not require travelers to provide a hotel booking as well. However, you will be required to provide an address in Thailand. If you will be staying in private accommodation you may provide the address.

For travelers staying in a hotel, we highly recommend using Agoda.com when booking your hotel:

How to Apply for Thailand Pass

The Thailand Pass System is a QR code generating system. To obtain a QR entry code or Thai Pass ID, travelers will have to:

  • Register at the official web portal
  • Input personal details
  • Upload the required documents per their vaccination status
  • Receive a confirmation email after registration (within seconds after registration)
  • Wait for the approval (normally within 1-3 days)

And if approved, you will receive an email with your QR Entry Code or ID, which you will use upon entering Thailand.

1. Apply for Thailand Pass by Yourself

You may apply for the Thailand Pass directly on the MFA website: https://tp.consular.go.th/

If you have already applied by yourself and you need to check the status, please go to: https://tp.consular.go.th/en/check-status

If you already applied and you still did not get the QR code or you were rejected, please email: [email protected]

2. Thailand Pass Application Service by Siam Legal

Application for the Thailand Pass is free-of-charge and you do not need any assistance to apply for it. However, there may be instances where some individuals may voluntarily choose a paid service provider such as a law firm to provide consultation, assist them to prepare their documents, and submit them on their behalf.

Individuals may encounter problems with their documents that are not being uploaded properly or are deemed unacceptable to the Thai embassy or consulate. This may cause delays or rejection of your application, so it may be helpful to retain a service provider to assist you with the application. These paid Thailand Pass services offered by Siam Legal are listed below.

Recommended Thailand Pass Insurance

Based on experience, the common problem for the applications being rejected and travelers being denied boarding their flight is that some insurance policies are not properly worded.

Your COVID 19 insurance must expressly state that it covers up to $10,000 USD medical expenses, including COVID 19 related incidents, and it must cover your whole stay in Thailand.

The Thai Pass system only accepts one attachment therefore it is important to have a one-page Certificate of Insurance with all the required information. To purchase the most reliable insurance that has never had a problem with the Thai Embassy or airline, please click the link below:

So I have applied for the Thai pass. It has come back as 4 day entry but we are staying there for 8 days in two different destinations in Thailand. Can I still use this pass? Or have I done something wrong? Also I applied for the same pass in May & this arrived back with the correct 8 day stay. Could I re-use this pass or do I have to go by with the recent 1 which I applied for in jun?

    • June 14, 2022

      Hi Saf,

Yes, your Thailand Pass is a one time entry requirements in the Kingdom.

we (4 of us) are flying to bangkok and going Pattaya (Chon Buri) and stay 2 night, then travel back to Bangkok for another 2nights before departing. So in the Thai Pass, I can only key in Pattaya address and check in date/checkout date. (17-19 Jun) But I cannot key in Bangkok hotel address and check in/checkout date (19-21Jun). How do I go about this?
I should register individually for my 2 children? Or can I register them as my dependents for the Thai Pass?

    • June 14, 2022

      Hi Mic,

It’s ok , you can stay in any hotel of your choice. Just put one address in the Thailand Pass, that would be fine.
You can include your kids below 18 years old at your application under your name, click the button for additional.

Hi, I have an international medical health insurance covering up to EUR 10,000. It’s a general one.
Is it fine or does the coverage needs to specify Covid19?

    • June 13, 2022

      Hi Viviana,

That would be fine as long it covers the covid medical treatment with a minimum coverage of USD 10,000.

Hi my two friends and I are from Australia and planning to visit Thailand in December for 2 weeks. We read that we need to be Covid insured with a min of $10000 usd but as it is only for 2 weeks I was wondering if there is anything we can do as that is a lot of money just for 2 weeks visit.

    • June 13, 2022

      Hi MG,

It should be indicated in your policy or insurance certificate.

      Dear So Po,

Thailand Pass is not a visa and it is not a permit to stay in Thailand. Thailand Pass is only a permit to travel to Thailand and permit to enter Thailand. It does not matter if you have an exit flight or not.

Second entry is back from Yangon and I will stay at Bangkok for 4 days before returning to HK. I have insurance policy covering COVID expenses over US$10,000 for whole trip. Will Thailand pass accept my insurance policy with policy effective date earlier than my 2nd entry date to Bangkok?

      Hi May,

On your first entry , if you will not pass in the immigration just get travel insurance. Then on the time you will stay , you need to apply Thailand Pass .

    Thanks!

      Hi Terry,

If you will just layover in Japan just a few hours, your 72 hours will start from your origin country (USA). But if you will stay in Japan for a day or more, is should be in Japan.

Do we have to book our hotels through Agoda or can we use any travel agent to make hotel bookings?

Are we allowed to travel from Phuket to Koh Phi Phi Island?

Can you travel to Thailand with the 1 Johnsons and Johnsons Vaccination? Or do you have to have both the Phizer vaccines?

Are we allowed to travel to the Island?
Can we book in at any hotels or do they have to certain hotels?
And do we have to book these hotels through Agoda? Or can we book them directly with the hotels?

Me and my friend took out top cover on a travel insurance in Australia with Tick Insurance to travel to Thailand in July.
There are stories around saying we have to have insurance from a Thailand insurance company. When our insurance company states we have unlimited covid 19 insurance .
Why do we need to take out another insurance.
    Its so confusing

There’re four options of Insurance ( 15 days ) on the official website (tp.consular.go.th), which is : Mini 10 or Say Hi 10 from The DSIG Insurance, and Plan1 or Plan 2 from AXA insurance.

So, do it mean we could choice one of them to apply the Thailand Pass Application? For sample, We could choice Mini 10 from DSIG Insurance tp apply 13 days Thailand Pass.

And there’re two children go with us, do they need the same Insurance?

      Hi Louis,

If you will check in all the way, yes you need to get Thai Pass.

My Thailand Pass is approved but I will be making a trip to another country which I did not declare when filling up Thai Pass. I’m not travelling from that country and will be returning back first before going to Thailand. Do i need to reapply?

    • May 30, 2022

      Dear X,

Yes, if you will return back in Thailand , yes you need to reapply again.

      Thank you.

After an approved Thai Pass, if there is a change in International Arrival Flight and Hotel, which was filled while applying the Thai Pass, does one need to re-apply for a Thai Pass. The date of Arrival in Thailand and departure from Thailand remains the same.

    Please help

      Hi Umesh,

That’s okay. You can still use it.

    Dear Thaiembassy Team,
My name is Roger Maurer, Switzerland.
I’m having a retirement visa based on a Non-O visa. I left Thailand for a visit to Switzerland and will be flying back to Thailand on July the 18th. My Pacific Cross Health Insurance covers Covid-19. I’m having a certificate of cover from the Insurer. The coverage includes inpatient benefit up to a maximum limit of US$ 250’000. My annual coverage ends on September the 1st 2022. The renewal notice is sent to me usually around the 20th of July and I’ll pay for the next annual coverage at the end of July valid from the 1st September 2022 till the 1st September 2023.
My retirement visa expires on September the 19th, 2022. Therefore, I’m missing 19 days of coverage proof at the time I need to apply for the Thai pass to re-enter Thailand on the 18th of July.
Can you please advise whether this is a problem for the Thai Pass application.
Thank you in advance for your help.
    Kind Regards
    Roger Maurer

I am due to enter Thailand via land from Cambodia on 31st May. I am flying back to the UK on 2nd June and then returning to Thailand on 9th June for 1 Week.
Do I need to apply for 2 separate Thai passes (one for land travel and one for flight) or will one be enough?

    • May 30, 2022

      Hi Nathan,

It’s another Thailand Pass, it’s a new entry.

    Dear Mr/Madam

Our family’re planning to visit Bangkok and Pattaya from 6th – 17th June. The adults are full vaccination, but we have 2 children, one is 9 year old, and already get the first vaccination. But the little one ( 22 month ) do not get any. So, it’s effect to the Thai Pass application? And please let us know how long it takes for the Thai Pass Application? We see it just takes only 1-6 hours on this website, but some said 5-7 days.
    Thank you.
    Jay

    • May 30, 2022

      Hi Jay,

You can include them in your application. Unvaccinated children should be accompanied by fully vaccinated guardian/parents.

The Thailand Pass normally takes 24-48 hours but most of the times less than a day.

      Thank you

    • May 31, 2022

      Dear Laila,

If the children are unvaccinated, you can resubmit an application and ADD the children. If the children are partially vaccinated, they may be approved on the application that you submitted for them separately.

    Hello
I have years retirement visa ending May 2023.
I am traveling to Thailand for 2 months in June.
Will 2 months insurance be accepted for Thai pass even if i dont have return flight booked?
I wanted to travel one way and book return from Thailand.
I dont want to buy a years insurance just for 2 months but was told by insurance company i have to show insurance until visa expiry date.
Will i have to show a return flight ticket?
    Thanks

    • June 2, 2022

      Hi Simon,

Yes, insurance period will depends on you. For the returning flight, it’s okay not to indicate it.

Hi, my spouse and I are travelling to Phuket in mid June. We purchased the covid insurance through Air Asia. Tune protect insurance covid policy which we have purchased with our airasia air ticket.

I was advised that the Tune Protect insurance by air asia meets the requirement for Thailand’s covid insurance.

Would this tune protect insurance applicable to apply for the Thailand Pass?

    • June 5, 2022

      Hi Sugitha,

The covid insurance coverage should have minimum of USD 10,000.

Regarding the last FAQ question – “Do I have to stay ina Sha+ hotel for my entire stay in Thailand?’ – I would like to clarify –

Do vaccinated toursts entering Thailand after June 1 need to stay in hotels with Sha+?

If no, can we stay in those hotels anyway? Or are they only for quarantine?

    Thank you!

    • May 27, 2022

      Dear James,

You can stay in any hotel you want, just put the address on your Thailand Pass application.

i have applied for thai pass and i understand that you have to declare the countries you have been to 14 days prior to arrival at thailand. I may be making a last minute trip to another country which i did not get to indicated in my thai pass. do i have to reapply again?

    • May 27, 2022

      Dear R,

If you will travel to Thailand from that country, that country becomes the country of departure. Therefore you need to apply again and change your country of departure.

    • May 26, 2022

      Hi Leslie,

Effective on June 1, 2022 , the CCSA has canceled Thailand Pass for Thai nationals, who may freely enter Thailand with just their valid Thai passports.

For foreigners, you may still need to apply Thailand Pass including the following

      Passport
Vaccine certificate or Vaccine card (vaccinated at least 14 days before travel)
COVID-19 Insurance covering at least 10,000 USD

      Thank you.

Hi, I’m returning next week to Thailand but will stay long-term as I am a teacher (I have re-entry, work permit and visa until Nov 2022). For thailand pass it says i must have insurance to cover my whole stay in Thailand, but that will be more than 1 year. Can i get insurance for just one week for the thailand pass?

As unvaccinated tourists with no quarantine, we will have PCR tests attached to our Thailand Pass within 72 hrs of our departure. Will the Thai Pass be approved inside that time? If it takes 3 days we may miss our flight.
