In this program, tourists will only need to be tested for COVID-19 when they arrive at their SHA+ or ASQ hotels and get a negative result. After getting a negative test result, the travelers will be allowed to travel to other parts of Thailand. A self-test ATK will be performed on the 5th Day in Thailand.

What is Thailand’s “Test and Go” Program?

The “Test and Go” program is, also sometimes referred to as “Exemption from Quarantine”, is one of the latest programs that Thailand’s government implemented to encourage travelers to visit Thailand.

The government has already recommenced the “Test and Go” program. Under the renewed program, tourists from all countries traveling to Thailand via air travel and who have been vaccinated against COVID-19 are eligible for this program.

What is the difference between Test & Go and Sandbox?

Under Thailand’s “Test and Go” program, tourists can travel all over Thailand after they’ve received a negative test result on their first COVID-19 test. However, on your fifth day, you must do a self-test ATK and report your test result on the Mor Chana mobile app.

For the Sandbox program, travelers are required to book a 7-night stay in a SHA+ Hotel and they will undergo 1 RT PCR test on Day 1 and ATK test on Day 5 before they are allowed to travel to other parts of Thailand. This program is only available in Phuket, Samui, and Pattaya.

If you are a fully vaccinated traveler, it is best to apply under the Test and Go Program.

What are the requirements for the Test and Go program?

You will need to meet some requirements to be eligible for the “Test and go” program. These requirements include the following:

  • COVID-19 Travel Insurance: Your COVID-19 travel insurance policy coverage shouldn’t be less than US$ 20 000 for medical emergencies.
  • A COVID-19 Recovery or Vaccination certificate. Keep in mind that any tourists younger than 18 years old won’t need this certification if they travel with a legal guardian or a parent.
  • The Day 1 hotel confirmation letter confirmations that you’ve pre-paid for accommodation, airport transfer and RT-PCR test. The letter needs to be issued by one of the approved Alternative Quarantine (AQ) or SHA + Hotels.
  • Flight reservation to Thailand. If your final destination is Phuket and Samui, you will be allowed to take a sealed domestic flights.

How to enter Thailand with the “Test and Go” program?

1. Apply for Thailand Pass

You apply for the Thailand Pass Test and Go Program 2022 via https://tp.consular.go.th/.

Remember that the processing time could take three to seven business days. So you’ll need to apply at least seven business days before you plan to travel to Thailand.

To apply for the Test and Go program, you must submit the necessary documents mentioned above.

You can upload the QR code of your vaccination documents to make the application process go a lot quicker.

The Thailand Pass will be sent to you by email. Make sure that you scan the QR code to know the validity of your Thailand Pass and check if your information is correct.

2. Get a pre-departure COVID-19 Test

The second step will involve going through the COVID 19 RT-PCR test and hopefully getting a negative test result within 72 hours of leaving for Thailand.

If you’ve had COVID-19 before your trip, you will need a medical certificate stating that you’ve recovered. The certificate will need to be dated between 14 to 90 days of your departure date.

Children younger than six years and traveling with their parents won’t need to undergo the pre-departure RT-PCR test.

Note: Starting April 1, 2022 this pre-departure COVID test will no longer be required.

3. When you arrive, do the 1st RT-PCR test

When tourists first arrive at the airport or their hotel or designated venue, they have to undergo the first RT-PCR test and wait for the result in their hotel room. Children and adults must be tested for COVID-19 upon arrival.

If the test is negative, you will be able to travel all over Thailand. You will also be able to take the second test on the fifth day of your trip. The second test will be an antigen rapid test.

However, if you test positive for COVID-19, officials will refer you for the necessary medical treatment. The tourists will be responsible for the medical expenses. In some cases, insurance policies might not pay for your isolation expenses.

4. On Day 5, do the 2nd COVID test (Antigen Rapid Test)

On the fifth day of your trip, tourists will need to go through the second COVID test which is an ATK test. Just like the first test, if you test negative for COVID-19, you will be allowed to travel anywhere in the country. If you test positive, you need to do a confirmatory RT PCR test to make sure you have been infected with COVID and receive the necessary medical treatment.

Top 20 Questions for Test and Go Thailand

Are there any check-in restrictions when exiting Thailand?

Unless stated otherwise by your airline, the only requirement to exit Thailand is to present your vaccination certificate or an ATK test result before boarding the flight. It is recommended to check with your airline to know the current entry requirements of your country of destination.

We are landing in Thailand but will visit Cambodia for a few days. Our flight home is via Bangkok. Will we need to apply for a new Thailand Pass even though not leaving the airport?

If your return flight from Cambodia is a direct transit (you do not pass through Passport Control), then you do not need to apply for a new Thailand Pass. You only need insurance and the pre-boarding COVID test.

If you must exit through Passport Control to board your new flight, you will need to apply for a new Thailand Pass and do a new Test & Go.

I am trying to use the MorChana App in my home country, but it is not working. What is the issue?

The MorChana application will only activate once you are in Thailand. You can download it before then, but it will not register any details or your Thai Pass QR code. You may ask your SHA+ hotel staff to assist you on how to navigate the app.

Can I land directly in Phuket, stay for 3 – 4 days, and then leave again?

Yes. If you land directly at Phuket International Airport under Test & Go you will do 1-night mandatory quarantine and then are free to travel for the rest of your stay. Since you are staying less than 5 days, you are not required to undergo an ATK test. However, you need to check the entry requirements of your next country of destination.

Do I need to print all my documents and Thailand Pass QR code for when I arrive in Thailand?

Yes. It is the best practice as you will present these documents to Immigration and Health Officers at the airport Passport and Health Control.

Why are the SHA+/AQ hotel packages more expensive than a normal hotel?

SHA+/AQ hotels include the cost of transport from the airport, RT-PCR testing, and transport to the hospital/isolation facility for cases where people test positive for Covid.

What documents do I need for a Thai Pass Test and Go application?

  • Passport Copy – Scanned copy of passport profile page.
  • Insurance Policy – Minimum cover of $10,000 USD. The insurance policy must be valid for the entire length of stay in Thailand.
  • Vaccination certificate – Your vaccination certificate must be of an approved vaccine variety and you must have been vaccinated over 14 days prior to departure.

(Not required for children below 18 years old who are escorted by parents).

  • Hotel reservation – SHA Extra+ / AQ for 1 day (Day 1) (1 RT-PCR test fee 1 ATK self-test kit and airport transfer included).
  • Flight details

If you land at Bangkok Suvarnabhumi from an international flight, can you transfer to a domestic flight without leaving the airport and do your test and go to your final destination? Or do you have to do one at Bangkok accredited Hotel first?

Unless the flight is listed as a ‘sealed flight’, you cannot transit domestically. You must complete your Test & Go in Bangkok before traveling to your final destination. Please check with Thai Airways and Bangkok Airways for the new list of sealed flights to Phuket and Samui.

What does the term transit mean regarding Thailand Pass?

To transit in Thailand without needing a Thailand Pass, you must not pass through Passport Control but move directly from one flight to the next.

If you pass through Passport Control for ANY reason (to collect bags or check in on a new flight), you are required to have a Thailand Pass and follow Test & Go/ Alternate Quarantine procedures.

With Test & Go, you may travel around everywhere in Thailand after a negative test result. But with SANDBOX you have to stay in your hotel for 5 days. Why is that?

The Sandbox scheme was implemented before Test & Go was available in Phuket. If you are vaccinated and meet the requirements for Test & Go, there is no need to enter Thailand under the Sandbox scheme. The Test and Go program is a better option for those who are fully vaccinated.

For the vaccination certification – can we use a screenshot of the official Corona App from Germany which shows all the vaccinations or do we need an official printout of the vaccination certificates?

It is best practice to print a hard copy of all documents needed when applying for a Thailand Pass. You will present these documents to Passport Control on arrival. You can take a screenshot if all applicable details show, but it is better to present the screen or print the official certificate.

For the Thailand Pass application, yes a high-resolution screenshot will be accepted.

Can a tourist apply for Thailand Pass with only a fly-in ticket (1 way) without a fly-out ticket booked?

Yes. With Thailand Pass, you only need to provide details of your entry flight.

How do I extend my stay in Thailand if I have a Tourist Visa or visa exemption?

If you enter Thailand under visa exemption you can stay for 30 days.

A Tourist Visa allows you to stay in Thailand for 60 days.

Before the expiry date of your permit to stay, you can visit the local Thai Immigration Office and apply for a 30-day extension. The cost is 1900 Thai baht.

What is the Royal Thai Gazette?

The Royal Thai Government Gazette, frequently abbreviated to Government Gazette or Royal Gazette, is the public journal and newspaper of record of Thailand. Laws passed by the government generally come into force after publication in the Royal Gazette.

I have a family of 4. One child is under 6. Do I need to submit a separate Thai Pass application for each family member?

No. All travelers aged 18 years old or above must apply for Thailand Pass individually.

Children under the age of 18 do not need to register for the Thailand Pass on their own. Parents will add their children’s information to their Thailand Pass registration under the “Personal Information” section.

What do you do if you test positive at the hotel? Do you stay at the hotel to quarantine or do they move you and how long of a quarantine?

If you test positive with no history of COVID 19 infection, you will be sent to a hotel or hospital quarantine for up to 10 days.

If you test positive with a history of COVID infection, you will be sent to isolation in a hotel or hospital. Officials will review your infection history (medical certificate of recovery) It will depend on the case. The assessment will include your CT level, whether you are asymptomatic and how long ago you had COVID.

What are the rules for traveling to Thailand from the UK if unvaccinated?

IF you are not vaccinated, you must enter Thailand under the Alternative Quarantine scheme. You are required to quarantine in your room at an approved SHA+ hotel and cannot leave the room for 5 nights. You will do an RT-PCR test on Day 1 and Day 5.

I’m traveling on the 6th of April from Australia. I just got a message from Qantas saying I require a PCR within 72 hours. Is RT-PCR still required?

Because the April 1 changes have not come into effect yet, many airlines are still auto-generating correspondence. Check your airline after April 1.

I am applying for my Thailand Pass and am unsure what scheme to choose. What are the different schemes?

Test & Go – allows vaccinated visitors to enter Thailand without the mandatory quarantine

Visitors enter Thailand and stay 1 night at an approved SHA Extra+ / AQ hotel where they undergo a Day 1 RT-PCR test. If the test shows a negative result, visitors are free to travel anywhere in Thailand. They will be issued with an ATK self-test, which they will conduct on Day 5, and submit the result via the channel as instructed by the Ministry of Public Health.

Sandbox –  is a scheme that allows vaccinated foreign travelers to visit Thailand without having to undergo mandatory room quarantine. Travelers will undergo 1 night of quarantine at an SHA Extra+ / AQ hotel and undergo an RT-PCR Test. An ATK self-test will be conducted on Day 5.

Under the Phuket Sandbox program, travelers must stay in their Sandbox province for at least 7 nights before being free to travel anywhere in Thailand.

Alternate Quarantine – If you have not been vaccinated, you are required to enter Thailand under the 10-day Alternate Quarantine Scheme. You will isolate yourself in your hotel and do an RT-PCR test on Day 1 and Day 5. You cannot leave the room during the 10 days.

Test and Go, and Sandbox schemes are not available for non-vaccinated visitors.

My Thai Pass has been approved. What do I do now?

Once your Thailand Pass is approved, you will receive an email with your Thailand Pass QR code, ID number, and further details.

Compile your travel documents to be presented on arrival. It is recommended that you print 2 copies of all documents in case a document is kept by an airport officer.

Print a copy of your QR code for arrival in case there is an issue with your phone when arriving.

I am not a Thai citizen, and I have plans to fly out of Bangkok to Hong Kong this month. Now that Travel Restrictions have changed, my hotel is no longer offering a ‘PCR Test’ service. I still require a negative PCR test result for my flight to Hong Kong.

Can anyone please advise how I can go about getting a PCR Test before departing Bangkok? I will be staying at the Novotel Bangkok Suvarnabhumi Airport Hotel.

    Thanks

      Hi Dan,

You need to search for hospital and clinics that offers the service by yourself, inform them that you are “going abroad”, they would understand.

Hi, we are due a refund from scb-phuket city development co, for swab tests that were not required on day 5, due to the government changes after we arrived.
No refund has been forthcoming, despite the documents stating that the process should start after the due date of the swab, April 2.

      Hi Glenn,

    Hello,

If I land in Thailand at 5 am on May 21st, should I book a hotel for May 20th to May 21st through Agoda or May 21st to May 22nd.

I am concerned that PCR results may not come back before the typical hotel checkout time at 11 pm.

Is there a specific type of proof for vaccination?

Paper? Digital? From specific testing facilities?

    • April 21, 2022

      Hi tj,

You can upload scanned files online but if there’s a digital proof like an official qr code for an easier access, that would fasten the process.

I want to travel together with my Thai girl friend. What requirements apply to her e.g. when checking in to hotel?

    • April 21, 2022

      Hi Lutz,

You can ask a hotel whether they allow you to be staying with your Thai girlfriend while quarantining in Test and Go.
Your Thai girlfriend has to apply for the Thailand Pass too, if she holds a Thai passport, she would have to upload all documents except for the insurance.
If your Thai girlfriend holds a passport of nationalities other than Thai, she would have to apply for a Thailand Pass as exactly as you would have to.

    • April 20, 2022

      Hi Federica,

You need to choose between Test and Go or Sandbox. If you choose test and go, you have to stay in Bangkok for a night for quarantine. If you have finished Test and Go, Sandbox is no longer required.
There is no minimum days of stay in Bangkok for Test and Go.

So, I can stay in Bangkok from 16 to 19 august and then take a flight to ko phangan and stay there from 19 to 25 all that with test & go? I can travers freely everywhere in Thailand ?
I only have to do Thailand pass with test&go and book a sha+ hotel right ?

    • April 21, 2022

      Hi Federica,

Yes, you are required to stay for a Test and Go only on the night of your arrival day. After the results come out negative, you can travel freely anywhere in Thailand.

Yes, you need a new Thailand Pass. Thai authorities would like to make sure that you are going straight to the hotel labeled in their Thailand Pass database and quarantine for a night.

You should inform the hotel beforehand, they will be telling the hospital to prepare for your situation. Most hotels have their own policies toward people with recovery certificate that still tests positive on a PCR.

However, yesterday we found out we are both COVID positive.. so we will probably test positive when we arrive. Our government issued recovery certificate will come 10 days after test, so on April 28. Is that sufficient to be released from quarantaine if our test results do come back positive? We are fully vaccinated..

    Hi there!

I left my comment asking about the price of a saliva test for kid (younger than 6 years old). The hotel would like to charge me more from the test&go package we bought which they claimed that the test for kids are not included. And they told me to pay at arrival for 6000 THB/2kids
We clearly indicated at the booking that we would travel for 4 people and of course if kids required a pcr-test at arrival why the package didn’t include kids??

Please I am waiting for the answer…if the test for kids cost 3000 THB? This is a common price? It seems pricey and insane for me. I don’t really get it. So, I ask to confirm if the government have controlled the price of the pcr test or not, it is dangerous in term if the hotel could get an advantage from this test&go program.

Please i am waiting for your reply.

I am still waiting for the reply from thai embassy. We are not enjoying to pay this. Everything for kids must be cheaper than for adult. If Agoda who are dealing with the test&go package and selling this package works for or collaborates this program with the thai government, it must be more transparent ..if kids require a test at arrival, the booking must confirm or include the package for kids. It is tricky to know later the additional costs. We hate a surprise!

We indicated at the agoda booking that we would travel and bought a test&go package with a hotel for 2 adults and 2 kids…but the confirmation is only for 2 adults…for kids we have to deal with the hotel personally and we don’t know this until we confirmed the booking.

And…sadly the booking cannot be refundable…we have no choice. I am begging you to check the price of the test from all hotels. I believe that they are getting advantage from us.

      Thanks!!!

      Still waiting for a reply.

    Hi there,

I am Thai and gonna travel with 2 kids (1 year and 5 years old) back home (from Brazil). My kids are also Thai.

I booked a hotel room with a test&go package (agoda), I clearly indicate that the booking would be for 4 (2 adults and 2 kids).

However, it turns out that the booking confirmation didn’t confirm the two kids in the reservation but only 2 adults. Then the hotel would like to charge me more 6000 THB for a pcr test at arrival for the 2 kids.

I am pretty concerned that …this 6000 THB is too expensive!!! And unacceptable!!! I think it is too expensive for kids. This 6000 THB is just the same price as booking one more room in the hotel with a test&go package.

    Many things are still unclear.

The test for kids must be included in the package.

I would like to know, how much the saliva test for kids? 3000 THB/kid? The same cost as for adult?
    Really??

Thanks in advance for your reply!

    Hi,

I’m flying on a sealed flight from SG to BKK and then taking a sealed (PG5135) flight to Koh Samui. I booked my Test & Go package with the a hotel in Koh Samui.

Can I confirm that I can transit in BKK and take my test & go PCR test in Koh Samui?

Secondly, I can’t seem to find Koh Samui in the list of provinces under the Booking Accomodation Info page of the Test & Go application. Do let me know what to select given my situation.

    Thanks.

    • April 19, 2022

      Dear Lee,

If you are arriving in Samui via sealed flight, then the airport of arrival should be Samui so that the hotels that will show will be Samui Hotels and not Bangkok Hotels.

Is it mandatory to get it booked before applying for Thailand Pass or can I make the arrangements later on. Or can I book it once I am at Phuket Airport. As I’m flying on 22nd April, so its just 1 week from today. Kindly help!

I will only be staying in Bangkok for 3 nights from 27 Apr to 30 Apr. I am planning to stay at other hotel in Bangkok. Does that mean I need to book 1 night at an approved SHA Extra+ / AQ hotel where I undergo a Day 1 RT-PCR test and make another booking at my designated hotel? Also, since I won’t be stay in Bangkok for 5 nights, I presume I will not need to book for Day 5 ATK self-test right?

      Hi Amanda,

      1. Yes, you have to book a mandatory 1 night to undergo Test and Go on your 1st day of arrival.

Hello, I am planning a trip to Thailand, I will be flying from Singapore directly to Phuket (3 days), and then directly to Bankok (5 days) then back home.
I have reviewed the Thai Embassy website relating to the Test and Go and Sandbox requirements which look very close where Test and Go requires a 1 day hotel booking and Sandbox 5 day hotel booking.
    I have the following questions:
    1. Based on my agenda above can I stay in Phuket for 3 days and then fly directly to Bangkok for 5 days under the Test and Go program?
    2. Based on my agenda above can I stay in Phuket for only 3 days under the Sandbox requirements, when I leave can I go to Bangkok and stay for 5 days or do I have to leave Thailand after my stay in Phuket?
I guess Im unclear because the Test and Go option seems to be the best option where as the Sandbox option has more requirements like having a 5 day hotel booking and not being able to leave and travel within Thailand before the 5 day hotel booking.
Any assistance you can provide would be appreciated.

    • April 19, 2022

      Hi John,

      1. Yes you can, you will be taking Test and Go on your arrival in Phuket.
      2. No, Sandbox requires 5 amount of days to stay. If you finish Sandbox, you can leave to go to Bangkok as usual.

      Hi BHWH,

You need to inform the hotel beforehand about your symptoms with official documents as evidence, most hotels have their own policy for a case like yours. The hotels would inform their partnered hospitals about your situations, then, the hospital would be the one responsible of taking care of you before leaving the hotel.

(confused because you can just do the sandbox program on in the south and the program is a little diffrent than the test & go program)

    Thank you!

    • March 21, 2022

      Dear Nittaya,

      1. Yes you can travel around. On the 5th day is the ATK test which you have to do it yourself. It can be from anywhere.
      2. No you don’t have to. Both Test and Go and Sandbox are for tourists that were just arrived.

      Thank you

I’m travelling with my family from uk to Bangkok for 4 nights than on to Phuket for a further 4 nights in May 2022 . Will I need a PCR test before we fly out to Thailand and also do we need to have PCR test to fly to Singapore from Phuket ?

    • March 21, 2022

      Dear Uzmah,

You don’t need a RT-PCR test before departure to Thailand, but it is still needed on arrival under Test and Go.
Pre-departure RT-PCR tests might be mandatory if there are transit flights at another country that requires the result.
From Phuket to Singapore flights, you need to check out for Singapore’s arrival policies.

      Thank You

    Hi,
We are travelling from the Philippines to Singapore, just for 4days and planning to continue our travel to Bangkok for another 5days,my questions are:
    1. Would there be any special requirement needed for us to comply other than stated above?
    2. Would we qualify still on their Test and Go program?

    • March 19, 2022

      Dear Gene,

Yes, you can qualify for the Thailand Pass Test and Go program if you are fully vaccinated. You need to state that country of departure will be Singapore when you apply for the Thailand Pass. To apply for Thailand Pass, you need COVID insurance and Hotel Booking.

      Hello Maria,

You can stay in any hotel with a SHA+ badge for Test and Go, we labeled some of them here just for example.
Just make sure that the hotel provides RT-PCR test for you.

    Hi Rex,

Can you please confirm the following. My children are aged 2 and 4yo, are they required to do PCR on arrival in Phuket? I have a doctors memo that states they are unable to perform a nasopharyngeal PCR due to ENT complications, but a throat swab is fine. Will this be honoured by Thai medical staff at the hotel? Thanks in advance!

    • March 19, 2022

      Dear Zoe,

Yes, your children will be required to have an RT PCR test upon arrival. They will be doing the saliva test.

Hi again.. Reading the latest rules it seems that you can now enter via test and go, stay one night at a SHA+ venue, then if negative you are free to go without further test. Have I understood that correctly? or does the first night need to be at at a SHA ++ ?

    • March 9, 2022

      Dear James,

      Good day.
Yes, you are correct. You only need to have RT PCR test on arrival or Day 1. Once you have tested negative, you are free to go. However, please note that your hotel will also give you an antigen test kit for you to do self-test on Day 5. You will report your result of ATK test on the Mor Chana app.
      Thank you.

    Hi,

is it also possible to do test & go when travelling to Krabi? Or only Bangkok and Phuket? We want to visit Koh Jum after, so Krabi would be better option.

    • March 9, 2022

      Dear Eris,

The requirement for the Test and Go is only 1 night at the hotel within 1-3 drive from the airport of arrival. If you arrive in Bangkok or Phuket, you need to stay overnight in Bangkok or Phuket before you go to Koh Jum. One night in Bangkok or Phuket is not too much of a hassle.
