Tourist Visa for Thailand

(Updated December 21, 2021)

Thailand has closed all its borders in an effort to contain the spread of COVID-19 in most of 2020 under the invocation of the Emergency Decree. At present, Thailand has opened the country to foreign travelers and tourists. Now, fully vaccinated travelers, both Thai and foreigners, are allowed to enter Thailand without quarantine under the Test and Go Program or the Phuket Sandbox Program. However, the mandatory quarantine of 10 days is still required for both unvaccinated travelers and 14 days for those traveling from African countries.

Hi, my company wants to establish a representative office in Thailand. The establishment permission of our representative office has been approved by the Bank of Thailand. However, due to COVID we can’t go to Thailand for business registration.
Can we apply for a WP3 visa in this case?

    • August 27, 2020

      Dear Chayanin,
I believe they can do a power of attorney if they are unable to travel. As for the WP3, the Labour Office may not be issue it if the business registration has not been completed. I am not sure why Bank of Thailand has made the approval. Is it not the Ministry of Commerce?
      Thank you.

Hi Rex I m Indian passport holder. How can I apply for long stay tourist viza. As I have everything in Thailand including accomodation health insurance and etc can u pls help me for this

    • September 22, 2020

      Dear Sajan,
-Starting October 1, 2020 to September 30, 2021 Thailand will allow limited numbers of long stay foreign tourists under the Special Tourist Visa (STV) Program.  The visa is valid for 90 days which can be extended for another two 90-day extensions. This long stay visa is open to foreign nationals  travelling to Thailand with the intention to stay long term as tourist to boost the tourism industry. According to the head of Thailand Tourism Office, this is available to the countries in the Top 10 of the global COVID-19 Index or ones who haven’t had new cases for say 28 days will be allowed.
-The applicant must agree to undergo 14-day quarantine in a quarantine hotel accredited by the Thai government and the applicant must also provide COVID-19 health insurance covering the first 3 months of stay.
-The applicant must apply for the visa and certificate of entry prior to traveling to Thailand. The Thai Embassy will be the one to arrange the flight to Thailand so it is recommended not to book any commercial flight.
-Applicant must also provide a negative result of a COVID-19 PCR test issued within 72 hours before the flight.
If you are qualified, you must get in touch with the local Thai Embassy or the Tourism Authority of Thailand in your current location for more information.
      Have a good day.

    Hello,
I am french married with Thai and in the process to apply a visa O type to return to Thailand. My application has been accepted in the Thai embassy in Paris. Do I have to register online to get a repatriation flight or the Paris embassy will inform me? Do we have repatriation flights from France? So far I have seen from London and Frankfurt only. Thanks.

    • August 26, 2020

      Dear Vincent,
You also need to apply for the Certificate of Entry to Thailand or was that included in the application? Yes, you will ask the embassy for the available repatriation flights from France to Thailand.
      Thank you.

My wife and daughter (both Thai) are wanting to get back into Thailand, and are confused about the 14 day quarantine.

Do they have to stay at SQ/ASQ or can they stay at their home in Bangkok?

    • August 25, 2020

      Dear Jason,
      Good day!
All people who enters Thailand, they need to do the mandatory quarantine. Home quarantine is not acceptable. The Thai nationals may avail the state quarantine (SQ) which is free or they can book the alternative state quarantine (ASQ) which is not free, the cost of these hotels will range from 30,000 to 60,000 THB.

      Dear Greg,
      Good day.
It is a case-to-case basis, depending on the paperwork of the company. In Bangkok, both WP3 for prospective employees are issued now and the proper work permit is also issued once the employee arrived in Thailand with the Non Immigrant B visa.
      Thank you.

Hello Rex. I was looking at the requirements for Non-immigrant O Visa (visiting a non-thai family member who has a work permit in Thailand) . I have all the requirements mentioned in the website, but do I need to also have ASQ booking? How can I book ASQ if I do not have the visa approved yet?
    Please advise

    • August 26, 2020

      Dear Simoni,
You may apply for the Non Immigrant O visa and the Certificate of Entry at the same time. I believe you need to have an ASQ booking in order to apply for the visa and COE. I recommend for you to check with the Thai Embassy or Consulate where you are submitting the documents.
      Thank you.

    Hi Rex.
A couple of quick questions. I am a US citizen seeking to fly to Bangkok to be with my Wife who is there. I believe I need to apply for a non-Immigrant ‘O” visa with the Consulate in Los Angeles.

One thing they require is a pcr Covid test within 3 days of departure. But is it that the report is dated within 3 days of departure, or the test sample was taken within 3 days of departure? Because testing here takes quite a while to get results.

And are there companies in the US that sell the Covid $100k insurance policies?

    Many thanks!

    Peter D.

      Dear Peter,
The Fit-to-Fly Certificate or medical certificate must be issued within 3 days prior to the flight.

Hello, is it possible to obtain a work permit while staying in Thailand under amnesty? My company would like to hire me but am I able to get a work permit without any sort of visa (just stamp on arrival). I have all the relevant documents.

    • August 28, 2020

      Dear Marcus,
The Ministry of Labour would be needing for you to have a valid stamp in order to process the work permit, therefore the first thing you will do is to check with the local immigration if they can issue a Non B visa. Normally the Non B visa is issued abroad by a Thai Embassy but due to COVID-19 travel may not be possible. There has been petitions and requests for the immigration to issue inside Thailand however, there has been no official announcement if this possible now.
      Thank you.

    Hello Rex,
I’m a overseas student and fresh student of International Buddhist Studies College of Mahachulalongkornrajavidyalaya university. I saw in one Thai site stated that if you’re a overseas student of a Thai Public university then you don’t need that 100k $ health insurance of covid19 but if you’re a student of a private university then you need that. If it is true then Mahachula is a public university and that mean I don’t need that insurance?
2- what is ‘Organizational Quarantine of the educational establishment’ which is in foreign student list. So, all the overseas student don’t need to stay in ASQ?
    THANK YOU

I have not seen this information from the guideline issued by the Civil Aviation Authority. The best thing to do right now to contact the Thai Embassy where you will apply for the COE or Certificate of Entry.

On the Thai Embassy KL’s social media, they say that in order to book the repatriation flight, it is required that we show evidence of having a visa and Certificate of Entry.
However, in order to apply for the visa/CoE, we have to show evidence of having a flight purchased.

What to do in this case?

    Dear Rex,
I’m an Indonesian passport holder and currently in Cambodia.
I haven’t been able to go back home to Thailand since March to meet my Thai Wife. I have a non-immigrant Visa that will expire on 9th October 2020.
I have to go back to Thailand to renew my visa. I have a few questions,

    1. I read that the medical certificate should be issued no more than 72 hours before departing while presenting to the Embassy for the COE, but it says the COE process should take 10-15 working days. So do I have to get the medical certificate twice? The first is for when I want to get the COE and the second one at the airport?

2.I have Thai Insurance, do I still need to have the insurance covering no less than $100.000?
    3. Do I need to show my marriage certificate to the Embassy when I apply for the COE? If yes, Can I prove it from a photo?

    4. If there’s no flight to Thailand until late September, that means my visa will be expired, do I have to back to “square one” to apply for my visa?

    5. Will the Embassy gives me a list of the quarantine hotels? Or I have to find it by myself? I have a house in Bangkok, do I still need to stay quarantine 14 days in a selected hotel or quarantine myself in my own home?

    • August 20, 2020

      Dear Darren,
      Good day.
      1. Some embassies will not required medical certificate when applying for the COE and some embassies will require it. So, if they will require it for the COE, then you need to get a new medical certificate before the actual flight.
      2. Yes, you need to check with your current insurance if it covers COVID-19. If it does not cover COVID-19, you need to secure a new insurance policy for COVID-19.
      3. Yes, you can provide a copy of the marriage certificate.
      4. Yes, if there is no Thai Airways or Air Asia repatriation flight from Cambodia to Thailand in September, yes, you need to start the process. You need to get a new 90-day Non O visa from the Thai Embassy which may require for you to show original marriage documents.
      5. Yes, you will be the one to pay for your mandatory quarantine. Here is a list of ASQ hotels:

    • August 26, 2020

      Dear Sailesh,
If the visa expires and you are in Japan, you are able to obtain a 90-day Non O visa in Japan so that you can re-enter Thailand in December or January and convert the non-immigrant O visa into retirement visa. In January 2021, if the borders are open, you can re-enter Thailand as tourist and you can also get the Non O visa and retirement visa within Thailand.
      Thank you.

      1. Some embassies will not required medical certificate when applying for the COE and some embassies will require it. So, if they will require it for the COE, then you need to get a new medical certificate before the actual flight. The process is 1 to 2 weeks to obtain the COE.
      2. If it does cover COVID-19 but does not meet the required amount, you can apply for a new policy or increase the premium.

While you apply for the visa, you can also apply for the certificate of entry to Thailand and request the Thai embassy to provide you the list of special flights to Thailand.

Question about the Labs at the international airports. I’ve seen some website post that if you take the 90 min test at airport and you are corona virus negative, you do not need the 14 day quarantine. Is this true?

    • August 19, 2020

It is true that there are rapid tests at the airport. But the 14-day mandatory quarantine is still required. That is the reason why the foreigners that are allowed to enter the country are the ones who are willing to do it and not the tourists.

Is there any way that a person who’s nationality is Thailand is able to get in Korea without any purpose? like girlfriend and boyfriend’s meeting stuff,, which sounds very lame at this point tho
I mean I’m really dying for meeting my girlfriend..

    • August 19, 2020

      Dear Doohwi,
As far as we know, Thai nationals are able to leave Thailand and flew to other countries. I believe you need to check with the Korean Airport if they have any travel restrictions for travelers from Thailand. Also, the flights from Bangkok to Seoul may be limited if not totally zero.
      Thank you.

    Hello Rex,

I am employed in Thailand but now I am in India. My visa and work permit expired in between. I have received a fresh BOI approval for my employment, so I now plan to apply for Certificate of Entry at my local Thai Embassy. I have two queries.

    a) Can the Embassy guide me to a suitable repatriation flight back to Thailand?
    b) I plan to travel with my wife and son (20+ yrs). Will both of them be eligible for a CoE and Type-O visa?

    thanks and regards

    • August 19, 2020

      Dear Ayan,
      Good day.
      1. Yes, there is a travel ban therefore only special flights or repatriation flights are allowed. In this case, only the Thai Embassy in your country can arrange this. This flight may be once a week or once in every two weeks.
      2. Your family needs to get Non O and COE. You can apply altogether but issued a respective certificate.
      Thank you.

Since I have to give evidence of insurance coverage as well as hotel booking before my application for Certificate of entry and non-immigrant visa O is approved, can I know if my situation will be approved? Just to confirm if I should go ahead and purchase those.
My non Thai parents work in Thailand, with work permits, and I am planning to fly back.

    • September 3, 2020

      Dear Skyle,
It is very likely that the visa and COE will be approved as long as you have secure all requirements. Anyway, if there is any delay on the issuance of the visa and COE, you can rebook the flight and rebook the ASQ hotel. Also, please make sure that you are not above 20 years old, otherwise, the visa may not be issued.
      Thank you.

    • August 19, 2020

      Dear Hedayah,
If the Thai national is now abroad, there is no special requirement that you as employer needs to provide. The Thai national only needs to contact the Thai Embassy in your country and apply for the certificate of entry pr enlist himself to the available repatriation flight back to Thailand. Perhaps as employer, you can pay for his PCR test for COVID-19 as part of the requirement to get the certificate of entry.

    Dear Rex,

Thank you for the courtesy of a reply on 3 August. Still cannot understand if/when we are permitted come back to our Phuket home we would have to apply for a new Retirement Visa? We have owned our Phuket home thirteen years, renewing our visa annually. Our last visa expired because we were denied re-entry; not our fault! Why cannot it be simply renewed after our re-entry instead of starting from “square one” all over again?? An explanation from any Thai office would be greatly appreciated!!

    • August 17, 2020

      Dear Claudio,
It won’t be possible at this time to enter Thailand on a normal 30-day entry stamp due to travel ban therefore, you cannot just simple enter and obtain the visa in Phuket.
Also, retirees or retirement visa holders are not on the list of foreigners allowed to enter, not this time. We have to wait until there will be new announcement.
For more update, we recommend for you to check with the Visa or Consular Section of the Thai embassy in your country.

I approached embassy for an extension letter but that route was not successful. My problem is that if I return to my country, I would not be able to come back to Thailand as I do not come under anyone of the categories. Do you know if there are ways I could enter Thailand?

    • August 19, 2020

      Dear Jay,
      Good day.
The only option to return is using APEC card for conducting business with the government. You will be needed a letter from that relevant government agency you will be conducting business with. Another option is to be employed by Thai company. You can return with a Non Immigrant B visa with WP3 intending to work in Thailand. Or last option is to wait until Thailand allows more groups of foreigners into the country.

    1. I have found services that can provide marriage certificates (marrying US and international citizens) online that look to be 100% legitimate. Would this certificate be possible to use to be able to provide proof of being a spouse of a Thai citizen.

    2. If that is not possible, what is the situation with the ED visa? My school is recognized as an official place for education, but normal commercial flights are not allowed in, correct? Can I get on a repatriation flight with an ED visa?

    Thank you,

    • August 14, 2020

      Dear Andrew,
      1. That marriage will not be recognised in Thailand, therefore, it is a waste of time and money to do the online marriage.
      2. If you have an ED visa and you are attending a formal education, you can contact the Thai Embassy in Washington DC or consulates in Chicago, New York or Los Angeles, for the certificate of entry and ask to be included on the available repatriation flights.

      Dear Montha,
Thailand has a travel ban, therefore the normal flights are not allowed to land in Thailand. Even if you have a flight to Thailand on October 3rd, it will be cancelled if the travel ban is still in place at that time. As for your question, we are not sure if the travel ban is still in effect in October but it is very likely that it will not be lifted. Returning to Thailand from the UK, you need to register at Thai Embassy in London. The flights from London to Bangkok is once a week only.

      Hi Rex,

Thank you for your previous response about the WP3. My school has requested that and I am waiting to get it from them. My other question is about the visa application. It says that I need to have proof of my flight to Thailand and then back home. How does this work since I have to schedule on a repatriation flight to Thailand? I guess I’ll call the Thai embassy in LA (im in the US). Also, I don’t now how long I may be in Thailand (maybe a year, maybe two), so should I just book a flight back home to show proof for the visa application and then change it when that time comes?

Also, I read in a previous comment that when you are in the quarantine facility, and you get a COIVD free test result for several days in a row, you may be able to cut the quarantine short? Is this accurate?

Finally, with the COVID insurance that is required for the COE, how many months of coverage do I need to prove to get that COE? If my initial work visa is only for 90 days, and then I will be able to extend it while im there, can I just prove 90 days of COIVD insurance for the COE?

      Thank you!!!

    • August 14, 2020

      Dear Mary,
      Good day.
One way flight is sufficient since you are getting a non-immigrant B visa and for sure your employer will extend your visa in Thailand. You may call the Thai consulate in Los Angeles for the list of flights available for you to join in. For the quarantine, you need to pre-book a hotel facility for 14 days. The insurance coverage can be 2, 3 6 or 12 months. But I would recommend for you to check with the Thai Consulate in LA.

I regret to inform you at this time, Thailand still have travel ban for tourists and for those who are not listed on the notification of the Civil Aviation Authority dated August 3rd. We have to wait until first week of September for the new list of foreigners allowed to enter Thailand.

Thailand has a travel ban, therefore you cannot enter Thailand at this time.
I recommend that you change your flight from KL to Finland directly. Transit at Bangkok airport is allowed.

    • August 10, 2020

      Dear Bernard,
At this time, retirement visa holders are not on the list of foreigners allowed to return to Thailand. It is difficult to say if this will be the case in September or October, so we really cannot advise you with certainty.

Am still confused as I read in The Phuket News August 8th
      allowed to enter Thailand:
      quote
      (7) Non-Thai nationals who hold a valid certificate of permanent residency in the Kingdom, or permission to take up residence in the Kingdom, including their spouse or children.
      unquote.
What is a “Certiificate of Permanent Residency” ?

I am dissappointed not to get a reply to my query. We are British passport holders and on the retirement O visas, valid unil January 2021.My daughter was born in Bangkok in 1973 when 2 foreign parents could still register a cjhild and get Thai nationality for her. We did that and she has a valid Thai passport and Thai ID card. Now those on O retirement visas can go out and then come back here if they have a Thai child. I assume we would qualify even though our daughter is currently 47 and working in London at the monet. We have lived here in Pranburi for the last 16 years.

    • August 11, 2020

      Dear David,
You are able to return to Thailand as long as the Thai Embassy in London issued the Certificate of Entry. As to whether the Thai embassy will check the age or location of the Thai person, it will be up to the embassy. The phone number that you may call is Phone: +44 20 7589 2944.

    • August 11, 2020

      Dear David,
For foreigners the quarantine must be done at the quarantine hotel or at the quarantine villa (in case of Phuket). For Thai nationals, they must do it at state quarantine or they can also do it at hotel quarantine if they are willing to pay.

She is currently working in London and is 47 years old. The latest rule states that those with the O retirement visas can re-enter Thailand now, subject to the publisher conditions and Cretifacte of Entry etc., if they have a Thai wife or child. Can we go out of Thailand and then come back i again without problems since we do have a Thai daughter, even though she is not living in Thailand at the moment?

HI there. I’m not sure how to write a question of my own so I am just replying to this comment. I have a teaching job lined up in Thailand and the school just sent a request to the Ministry of Labor to ask for permission for me to work in the country. I’ve read previous responses and seen that the MOI is possibly not issuing these letters of permission at this time? Is this true? Do you have any insight about when they will start to issue these letters of permission? I will need that to apply for my teaching visa, and subsequently my COE. Thank you! This site is a great resource.

If you mean by “work purposes” is to work for a Thai company, yes it is possible as long as your Thai employer (Thai company) provided you the WP3 or if you already have the work permit. You will also need the Non-immigrant B visa. If you have both Non Immigrant B visa and WP3, you can apply for the certificate of entry from Thai Embassy in your location.

I just want to double check on the Covid Test we have to have done prior to the flight.

Covid Test results can take anywhere between 3-15 days to be given to you. So if we have to have the covid test done within 72 hours of the repatriation flight, how are we supposed to have the results on time?

Do you recommend getting the test done prior to the flight so that our results are given to us within 72 hours? Or the test has to be performed within 72 hours of the flight?

    Good day to you, Rex,
My wife & I have Retirement Visas since 2007, which we have been renewing annually. We are currently stuck in Park City, Utah, USA – we came here for skiing. Our March flight home to Phuket had to be cancelled due that we were unable to get Covid19 testing at their time & had postpones our trip a couple of times, the last being 27th June, when the airline eventually cancelled our trip due that the indefinite closure of Thai border. We’ve been checking daily for updates as to when we can return to Phuket.
The Thai Embassy in Washington DC does not accept calls & their website doesn’t give us any info on our situation. Am sure that we are not alone in this predicament.
Our Retirement Visas expired on 21st July & there is nothing that we can find to inform us what we need to do. We are aware that foreigners stuck in Thailand are permitted to automatically stay till end September. What about us ‘residents’ who chose Thailand to be our home? When we are permitted to enter Thailand, will we able to auto-renew our OA Retirement visas at Immigration?
May we know if we can self-quarantine at our home? We are already spending much overseas & THB60K per person for quarantine seems a bit excessive when we have already invested in our Phuket home + still paying for our Thai housekeeper & gardener.
Also, we need to purchase our tickets before we can get the COE. What if we are not granted the COE for the date of our departure? We hate to lose the cost of the tickets, again.
If possible, please tell us what we should do? We’ve been disappointed several times at the end of each month thinking that we will finalise our travel plans.
Please educate us as to what we should do. Thank you.

    • August 3, 2020

      Dear Claudio,
Good day. Here are my comments:
      1. Thailand has a travel ban. Therefore foreigners cannot enter Thailand unless they are exempted on the travel ban.
      2. There are selected group of foreigners that are allowed to enter Thailand, you may find the list on this page:
      https://thaiembdc.org/visas/
      3. Retirees or retirement visa holders are not included on this list, not yet.
      4. In the event that retirees will be included on the list, you are required to obtain a new visa from the Thai Embassy and a Certificate of Entry. you may apply for the 1 year non-immigrant OA visa or the 90-day non-immigrant O visa.
      5. COVID-19 health Insurance and Quarantine Hotel booking are required when applying for the certificate of Entry.
      6. You can purchase tickets on the list of flights that is provided by the Thai Embassy. Do not book a flight from the airline, you need to check first with the Thai Embassy which flights have been confirmed by Thai government to enter Thailand.
      Thank you.

At this time, self-quarantine is not an option. Perhaps the best way is to wait until such time that hotel quarantine is no longer required for foreigners. We do not know when will that be.

The mandatory quarantine cannot be done at home. Your Thai wife may choose the free state quarantine or the hotel quarantine which she has to pay. Flights to Thailand are banned at least until end of this months and it may be extended until further notice. if she booked with Swiss Air, it might get cancelled. • August 3, 2020

      Dear Rocelyn,
      Good day.
      1. There are some Thai embassy abroad, that will not issue the certificate of Thai nationality or certificate of entry to a Thai passport holder. But you are still required to get in touch with your Thai embassy to enlist on the repatriation flights to Thailand. You need the fit-to-fly certificate and COVID-19 test results.
      2. Yes, you still undergo a quarantine in Thailand and you will be released as soon as you finished the quarantine or you tested negative on COVID-19, test done in Thailand.
      3. Self-quarantine is not possible at this time, as you can see on the news about the COVID-19 cases in Rayong. You may choose state quarantine or hotel quarantine.
      4. Your husband needs to get a Non immigrant O visa and a certificate of entry. He needs to have a COVID-19 health insurance, fit-to-fly certificate, COVID-19 test result and a hotel quarantine booking confirmation.

      Thank you for the reply, however;
      (1) why would I need another quarantine if I have already Covid Test Result as negative within 48 hours from the country I flew from?
      (2) you said I am able to choose hotels for quarantine but how? Should I make hotel bookings online before going to the embassy to show them in order to get the COE or Certificate of Thai Nationality?
      (3) where do I get Certificate of fit to fly? Should I bring it to the embassy as well to get my COE/ Certificate of Thai nationality or will the embassy issue that to me?
Thank you for clarifying the matter.

    • August 3, 2020

      Dear Rocelyn,
      1. There is a possibility you get the infection inside the plane so you will be tested again after arriving in Thailand.
      2. The Thai Embassy has a list of hotel under the ASQ, there are around 25 hotels on the list.
      Please check this page: https://thaiembdc.org/wp-content/uploads/2020/07/List-of-ASQ-Hotels-20072020.pdf
      3. The Fit-t-Fly certificate can be downloaded or provided by the Thai Embassy and you can have a doctor sign it.
I highly recommend for you to call or contact the Thai Embassy in your locality or current location for more information.
      Thank you.

    • August 20, 2020

Since you are above 20 years old, the Thai embassy or consulate may not issue the non O visa. However, in the past, the consulate had issued Non O for 90 days as long as you can prove relationship with the person in Thailand. But the 90-day Non Immigrant O visa that was issued cannot be extended into 1 year dependant visa in Thailand.

I believe the government has given 1 year extension for PR holders. Also, you are qualified to return to Thailand at this time. All you need to do is to contact the local Thai Embassy in your current location.
      Thank you.

I have been hired as a teacher in Thailand the issues I am running into is I am from the UK and can’t find any options to get the correct Visa.

The Thai embassy who I have spoken to numerous times are no use keep stating its on their site which it’s not no option for myself to get the correct Visa even the information about it keeps sending you round in circuits.

My name is already on the list for being able to fly this was done over in Thailand by the school but it’s useless without the Visa.

    Please Help

My Thai wife has dual citizenship With the USA and Thailand. To return to Thailand does she only have to have a COE and a medical certificate (fit to fly) or also a COVID-19 free certificate?

    • July 31, 2020

      Dear Rolland,
At the departure airport, the approved applicant is required to present:
-A “Certificate of Entry into the Kingdom of Thailand” (for the Foreigner) and letter confirming Thai nationality (for the Thai)
-A “Fit to Fly Health Certificate” issued no more than 72 hours before departure
-A Medical certificate with a laboratory result indicating that COVID -19 is not detected, issued no more than 72 hours before departure
-A Medical Insurance for the foreigner

I am Indian, currently in Thailand working on work permit. I want to go back India but only fear is if Thailand may not have any flight to and from India in next coming month.
for now I can see 5-Aug one flight going to Delhi from Bangkok but can you assure me “are there going to be flights every month between India and Thailand”?
Also this all entering in Thailand depends upon repatriation flights run by India right ?

    • July 31, 2020

      Dear Nitin,
For the flights from India to Thailand, you need to contact the Thai Embassy in Delhi because they have coordination with the airline.

      Dear Razzy,
      Good day.
Thailand still have a travel ban. However, you can apply for the non immigrant B visa and certificate of entry to Thailand if the Thai company in Thailand can secure a letter from Labour Office or relevant government agency in Thailand allowing and requesting you to travel to Thailand.
      Thank you.

Hi Rex, thanks for the info. Since my OA extension is good till Feb.11, and since I’m able to wire funds to my family till then, thinking on waiting till November to return to Thailand instead of having to the difficult process of now getting the COE. Is there any chance that retirees will be allowed in by November? Also, can I change from my OA to the O Parent/Guardian of a Thai visa once I’m back in Thailand? What exactly is the “Kor Ror 2″(I already have more than 800K baht in my Thai bank) Thank You!

    • August 21, 2020

      Dear Scotty,
Kor Ror is marriage registration. However it will not apply to you. You will be required the Certificate of Fathership instead. As for changing the OA visa into Non O guardian visa inside Thailand, that won’t be easy so we recommend that you get initial Non O visa in the US and convert to Guardian Visa Extension.
There is a chance that retirees or Non OA visa holders may be required already to enter in November but we have to wait for official announcement.

Hi Rex, thanks for the info. Since my OA extension is valid till Feb.11 2021,would it be possible for the Thai Consulate in the US to cancel the OA and issue a Non O instead, from which I could then change to the Guardian(or a new retirement) Visa after returning to Thailand? All the best, Scotty

    • September 10, 2020

      Dear Scotty,
Yes you may do that. You do not really have to cancel it there, you just need to make a new application for a new visa. When you enter Thailand, please inform the immigration officer at the airport to use the new visa which is the Non Immigrant O visa.
      Thank you.

    • July 28, 2020

      Dear Rafaella,
At this time no one really knows when will Thailand opens its borders to tourists. Even the government is not sure yet. It will depend on the next 2 months if the COVID-19 infection is already under control and if all Thai nationals are already rescued and have already returned to Thailand. It is safe to say that in end of this year or early 2021 Thailand may be able to open to tourists from abroad.

      Dear Amy,
Here are things your father has to have when returning to Thailand:
      1. Valid non-immigrant O visa
      2. Proof of legal marriage
      3. Certificate of entry issued by the Thai embassy in London
      4. Fit-to-Fly certificate
      5. Medical certificate with a laboratory result indicating that COVID -19 is not detected (COVID test must be by RT-PCR method), issued within 72 hours before departure
      6. Copy of your insurance policy which covers COVID and no less than 100,000 USD
      7. Copy of your confirmed booking at a quarantine hotel- usually the 14-day stay costs 28,000 to 60,000 THB
