What is Thailand Pass?

The Thailand Pass system is a free-of-charge web-based system designed to make the documentation process of travelers entering Thailand more efficient and faster. The Thai Pass QR code is required for all travelers entering Thailand.

The application will be approved by the central authorities in Thailand and not the Royal Thai Embassy or Consulate. Therefore, please allow sufficient time for approval after registering for the Thailand Pass.

The goal of the system is to help support the country’s “Ease of Travel” system after it reopens and to expedite filling out information and uploading travel documents.

Who Can Apply for the Thailand Pass

Thai Pass is required for all travelers entering Thailand, whether they be Thai nationals or foreigners.

From May 1, 2022, Thai Pass application and approval requirements will depend on a traveler’s vaccination status.

  1. Fully Vaccinated travelers will be able to enter Thailand under the No Quarantine program. A vaccinated traveler does not need to book 1 night’s accommodation in an approved SHA+ hotel or complete an RT-PCR test on arrival.Fully vaccinated foreigners will need to provide proof of COVID insurance and their vaccination certificate when applying for Thailand Pass. Thai Nationals only need to provide their vaccination certificate as insurance is not required. Unvaccinated children under 18 years old may travel with vaccinated parents without quarantine. The parents must include the children’s personal information in the application.
  2. Unvaccinated travelers will have 2 options for entering Thailand:
    • Unvaccinated travelers will be able to enter Thailand under the existing 5-day Alternate Quarantine program; OR
    • Unvaccinated travelers will be able to enter the No Quarantine program by completing an RT-PCR test and uploading the result into their Thai Pass application. The test cannot be older than 72 hours before their departure date.

What are the Requirements for the Thailand Pass

To support “Ease of Travel’, entry requirements have been eased from May 1, 2022. You can now apply with fewer documents and obtain a QR entry code faster.

The document requirements are listed below.

Vaccinated travelers (No Quarantine)

  • Your passport profile page
  • A certificate of full (2 doses) vaccination or vaccine card
  • A medical insurance policy with at least USD$ 10,000 minimum coverage

Unvaccinated travelers (No Quarantine)

  • Your passport profile page
  • An RT-PCR test result no more than 72 hours before your departure date
  • A medical insurance policy with at least USD$ 10,000 minimum coverage

  • Confirmed booking of SHA+ hotel 5-day Alternate Quarantine package
  • A pre-booked RT-PCR test on arrival (if not included in your package)

Proof of Vaccination

For vaccinated travelers entering under the No Quarantine program, you must prepare your vaccination certificate or card. The file must be in JPG, JPEG, or PNG.

For unvaccinated travelers who would like to enter Thailand under the No Quarantine program, instead of submitting a vaccination certificate or card, you must submit a negative result of the RT PCR COVID-19 test issued within 72 hours before traveling to Thailand.

Vaccine Card

Flight Details

The next step of the process is to book your flight to Thailand. Although it is not required to submit a proof of flight booking, the Thai Pass system will require the following information of your flight:

  • Country of Departure
  • Date of Arrival in Thailand
  • Flight Number
  • Estimated Exit Date from Thailand

Hotel Booking or Address  in Thailand

The Thailand Pass system does not require travelers to provide a hotel booking as well. However, you will be required to provide an address in Thailand. If you will be staying in private accommodation you may provide the address.

For travelers staying in a hotel, we highly recommend using Agoda.com when booking your hotel:

COVID-19 Insurance

Foreigners are required to submit proof of COVID-19 Insurance with minimum medical coverage of 10,000 USD.

How to Apply for Thailand Pass

The Thailand Pass System is a QR code generating system. To obtain a QR entry code or Thai Pass ID, travelers will have to:

  • Register at the official web portal
  • Input personal details
  • Upload the required documents per their vaccination status
  • Receive a confirmation email after registration (within seconds after registration)
  • Wait for the approval (normally within 1-3 days)

And if approved, you will receive an email with your QR Entry Code or ID, which you will use upon entering Thailand.

1. Apply for Thailand Pass by Yourself

You may apply for the Thailand Pass directly on the MFA website: https://tp.consular.go.th/

If you have already applied by yourself and you need to check the status, please go to: https://tp.consular.go.th/en/check-status

If you already applied and you still did not get the QR code or you were rejected, please email: [email protected]

2. Thailand Pass Application Service by Siam Legal

Application for the Thailand Pass is free-of-charge and you do not need any assistance to apply for it. However, there may be instances where some individuals may voluntarily choose a paid service provider such as a law firm to provide consultation, assist them to prepare their documents, and submit them on their behalf.

Individuals may encounter problems with their documents that are not being uploaded properly or are deemed unacceptable to the Thai embassy or consulate. This may cause delays or rejection of your application, so it may be helpful to retain a service provider to assist you with the application. These paid Thailand Pass services offered by Siam Legal are listed below.

Recommended Thailand Pass Insurance

Based on experience, the common problem for the applications being rejected and travelers being denied boarding their flight is that some insurance policies are not properly worded.

Your COVID 19 insurance must expressly state that it covers up to $10,000 USD medical expenses, including COVID 19 related incidents, and it must cover your whole stay in Thailand.

The Thai Pass system only accepts one attachment therefore it is important to have a one-page Certificate of Insurance with all the required information. To purchase the most reliable insurance that has never had a problem with the Thai Embassy or airline, please click the link below:

      Dear Bradley,

      Good day.
Applicants who have registered, but have not received their QR Code must wait for their Thailand Pass to be considered / approved. Once approved, they can enter Thailand under the scheme they have registered and approved.

Hello, I’ve been affected by a flight change – my flight will now arrive a day later, I’ve already rescheduled the hotel booking but obviously the Thailand Pass arrival date will be different. How does this affect the application? Will the thailand pass (assuming it is approved) be valid?

    Thanks, James

    • December 21, 2021

      Dear James,

The Thailand Pass will remain valid for your new flight as long as it is within 72 hours from the original flight. You can also apply for a new one. You still have an hour to do it now.
      Thank you.

Thanks James, I head that reapplying can create an issue within the system of duplicated passport numbers – this leads to a rejection – so I am concerned about reapplying. Have you heard this this?

Supposedly starting December 16th, the child below 6 years old will only be requiring the COVID test upon arrival but with the new Omicron variant, and new travel restrictions, it is best to have the test before traveling and upon arrival for all of you.

Would we have to quarantine even if it’s just a layover in Turkey? Or do you only consider our country of origin (the US).
Thank you for helping us understand the no quarantine rules for layovers in travel.

    • December 20, 2021

      Hi Phil,

If you are just transiting at a Turkish airport, you are eligible for Test and Go or Sandbox schemes.

      Thank you.

    Hello
I’m from Russia. Going to go to Phangan in secondat part of January. Would like to stay 28 days.
Would you please help with some questions:
1: which program is applicable for the residents of Russia?
2: how many days of quarantine should i go through?
3: can i be quarantined on Koh Samui or Bangkok?
4: is it allowed to leave the hotel in quarantine?

    • December 21, 2021

      Hi Nadia,

      1. Everyone visiting Thailand will need to apply for a Thailand Pass.
      2. Travelers from Russia are eligible for Sandbox scheme (7-day quarantine) if fully vaccinated. All unvaccinated travelers must quarantine for 10/14 days.
      3. You are required to quarantine in your first arrival city. If your flight lands in Bangkok, you must quarantine in Bangkok before you can travel to Samui.
      4. For Sandbox scheme, you are permitted to travel around your Sandbox area. For 10/14 day quarantine, you are not allowed to leave the hotel.

      Thank you.

Please check with your hotel about this. Covid test results usually take up to 24 hours.

    Hello,
We are Canadian citizens, living in Canada that are fully vaccinated and plan on traveling to Phuket under the test and go.
On our journey to Phuket we plan on staying about a week Saudia Arabia and then 3 days in Dubai, which are both on the approved list.
Since our direct flight to Phuket will originate in Dubai, we will put that in the Thai pass application.
    1) wanted to confirm if the staying in both Saudia (7 days) and Dubai (3 days) prior to Phuket qualify under the 21 days stay for the Thailand pass?
2)Also, can you please clarify if Canadian citizens require a visa for an under 30 day visit for tourist purposes only to Thailand? The Thai site says no, but I have read conflicting info.

    Thanks for clarifying!

    • November 22, 2021

      Hi TI,

      1) That is okay as long as you have spent at least 21 consecutive in a low-risk country(s), you will be qualified for Test and Go.
      2) Canadian passport holders are visa exempted for 30 days as long as the purpose of visit is solely for tourism.

      Thank you.

I will arrive in Phuket from an eligible country. I got the Thai Pass but I changed my flight from one airline to another landing on the same day. Do I need to reapply for the Thai Pass?

      Hi Ariel,

You will need to reapply for a Thailand Pass.

      Thank you.

My query concerns the identification information required when producing a vaccination certificate as part of the Thailand Pass procedure. COVID passes issued within the UK do not specify passport number, full name or nationality, as required by the Thailand Pass procedure. Is this likely to be a problem, please? Thank you for your expertise.

    • November 19, 2021

      Hi Tim,

A proof of vaccination must clearly show your full name, date of vaccination and vaccine type.

      Thank you.

      Hi Tim,

You can provide a screenshot of the PDF from your NHS App. Navigate to your COVID Pass and below your records, download the PDF copy and screenshot this. I did this and my Thailand Pass was approved.

    Hi,

We plan to travel to Phuket from Switzerland with transit in Bangkok and have chosen Sandbox Programme. Would there be a Transit hall where we could check in our luggage from Bangkok to Phuket (since we will be flying with 2 different airline) and could we do the local PCR test in Phuket directly (i.e. not in Bangkok) ?

    Many thanks for your feedback

    • November 19, 2021

      Hi Pfeffer,

Unfortunately you are required to do the Sandbox Program in your first arrival city in Thailand before you can travel to Phuket. Otherwise you would have to get a flight that lands in Phuket directly.

      Thank you.

    Hi.
I already asked two question. But seems to be deleted!

Just wondering if I must enter Thailand at Suvarnabhumi airport for a transfer between two seperate tickets from two different airlines? my stopover will be 8 hours. And I have NO checked-baggage for collection at Carousel.

    • November 19, 2021

      Hi Mahmoud,

You are required to quarantine at your first arrival city in Thailand which is Bangkok, after then you are permitted to travel to your final destination.

      Thank you.

    Dear Ma’am/Sir

Good day! I would like to confirm if Bermuda (Sovereign State of United Kingdom) is included in the “List of Eligible Countries for No Quarantine”? Am I safe to assume that since it is a UK territory, fully vaccinated travelers from Bermuda will be allowed to enter Thailand with the quarantine-free program? I hope you could provide a prompt and helpful answer.

Thank you in advance for your assistance!

    Best regards,

    • November 19, 2021

      Hi Therese,

Unfortunately Bermuda is not on the list of low-risk countries and you are not exempted from quarantine. You can however participate in the Sandbox Program where you have to spend 7 days in a specific area. The Sandbox areas include Bangkok, Phuket, Pattaya, islands, and most tourist destinations.

      Thank you.

Fully vaccinated traveler from UK – I suppose since both UK and Qatar are on your ‘safe list’, this works in terms of your 21 day requirement to stay in one of the countries on your list?

    Thanks

      Dear Richard,

      Dear Phillip,

That is your visa. That is needed for the Thai Immigration. That is not Thailand Pass. You still need to get Thailand Pass for the Health Officer at Bangkok or Phuket airport.

I am flying from the USA to Phuket, connecting in Bangkok. I am fully vaccinated and will be utilizing the Thailand Pass. Two questions: 1) If I stay airside at BKK can I continue on to Phuket the same day without testing and receive my test at the Phuket airport? 2) Since I have a 12 hour layover/connection in Bangkok, is it possible to book a room for the day at a BKK airport Test & Go hotel, receive my (presumably) negative test, and board my flight that same night continuing to Phuket?

    • November 18, 2021

      Hi Jamie,

No, you must do Test and Go at a hotel in Bangkok before you are allowed to travel to Phuket. The test results will take a day to complete and you will most likely need to spend a night in Bangkok and leave in the noon next day. Please check with an AQ/SHA+ hotel for more information.

      Thank you.

How long is the Thai Pass App valid? I travel to Thailand by end of January! Can I apply for that ThaiPass now?

    • November 17, 2021

      Dear Ernest,

      Good day.
The Thailand Pass is valid for travel based on the date of arrival stated in the QR code. However, in case of flight cancellation or delayed flight, the Thailand Pass will remain valid within 72 hours from the original flight time. You may apply for the Thailand Pass as early as 30 to 45 days before your travel date.
      Thank you.

No, you do not need a Thailand Pass if you are transiting for less than 24 hours and you do not need to clear immigration or passport control. You only need a COVID test and insurance for transiting in Bangkok Airport.

To qualify for “exemption to quarantine” it says you must have been in a listed country for 21 consecutive days. If I have returned from a trip to the USA, can I fly to Thailand 18 days later, given both USA and UK are on the list of eligible countries for no quarantine? I am fully vaccinated.

    • November 18, 2021

      Hi RC,

If you are fully vaccinated and have spent at least 21 consecutive days in a low-risk country you can participate in Test and Go where you have to spend one night at an AQ/SHA+ hotel to await your RT-PCR test results.

You have to apply for both. A visa will permit you to stay in Thailand for more than the 30 day visa free period whilst a Thailand Pass is a travel document that grants you entry into Thailand.

Hi Bob, no you don’t need to fly direct. I asked the Thai consulate in London and you’re permitted to transit. I asked the consulate specifically about transiting via Dubai en route from London. I’ve since found information on the Royal Thai embassy London website that indicates some restrictions such as stopover time needing to be less than 12 hours, and you must not go through security/ immigration control during the stopover. You are permitted to transit through a non-listed country.
