What is Thailand Pass?

The Thailand Pass system is a free-of-charge web-based system designed to make the documentation process of travelers entering Thailand more efficient and faster. The Thai Pass QR code is required for all travelers entering Thailand.

The application will be approved by the central authorities in Thailand and not the Royal Thai Embassy or Consulate. Therefore, please allow sufficient time for approval after registering for the Thailand Pass.

The goal of the system is to help support the country’s “Ease of Travel” system after it reopens and to expedite filling out information and uploading travel documents.

Who Can Apply for the Thailand Pass

Thai Pass is required for all travelers entering Thailand, whether they be Thai nationals or foreigners.

From May 1, 2022, Thai Pass application and approval requirements will depend on a traveler’s vaccination status.

  1. Fully Vaccinated travelers will be able to enter Thailand under the No Quarantine program. A vaccinated traveler does not need to book 1 night’s accommodation in an approved SHA+ hotel or complete an RT-PCR test on arrival.Fully vaccinated foreigners will need to provide proof of COVID insurance and their vaccination certificate when applying for Thailand Pass. Thai Nationals only need to provide their vaccination certificate as insurance is not required. Unvaccinated children under 18 years old may travel with vaccinated parents without quarantine. The parents must include the children’s personal information in the application.
  2. Unvaccinated travelers will have 2 options for entering Thailand:
    • Unvaccinated travelers will be able to enter Thailand under the existing 5-day Alternate Quarantine program; OR
    • Unvaccinated travelers will be able to enter the No Quarantine program by completing an RT-PCR test and uploading the result into their Thai Pass application. The test cannot be older than 72 hours before their departure date.

What are the Requirements for the Thailand Pass

To support “Ease of Travel’, entry requirements have been eased from May 1, 2022. You can now apply with fewer documents and obtain a QR entry code faster.

The document requirements are listed below.

Vaccinated travelers (No Quarantine)

  • Your passport profile page
  • A certificate of full (2 doses) vaccination or vaccine card
  • A medical insurance policy with at least USD$ 10,000 minimum coverage

Unvaccinated travelers (No Quarantine)

  • Your passport profile page
  • An RT-PCR test result no more than 72 hours before your departure date
  • A medical insurance policy with at least USD$ 10,000 minimum coverage

Unvaccinated travelers doing Alternate Quarantine program

  • Your passport profile page
  • Confirmed booking of SHA+ hotel 5-day Alternate Quarantine package
  • A pre-booked RT-PCR test on arrival (if not included in your package)
  • A medical insurance policy with at least USD$ 10,000 minimum coverage

Proof of Vaccination

For vaccinated travelers entering under the No Quarantine program, you must prepare your vaccination certificate or card. The file must be in JPG, JPEG, or PNG.

For unvaccinated travelers who would like to enter Thailand under the No Quarantine program, instead of submitting a vaccination certificate or card, you must submit a negative result of the RT PCR COVID-19 test issued within 72 hours before traveling to Thailand.

Vaccine Card

Flight Details

The next step of the process is to book your flight to Thailand. Although it is not required to submit a proof of flight booking, the Thai Pass system will require the following information of your flight:

  • Country of Departure
  • Date of Arrival in Thailand
  • Flight Number
  • Estimated Exit Date from Thailand

Hotel Booking or Address  in Thailand

The Thailand Pass system does not require travelers to provide a hotel booking as well. However, you will be required to provide an address in Thailand. If you will be staying in private accommodation you may provide the address.

For travelers staying in a hotel, we highly recommend using Agoda.com when booking your hotel:

COVID-19 Insurance

Foreigners are required to submit proof of COVID-19 Insurance with minimum medical coverage of 10,000 USD.

How to Apply for Thailand Pass

The Thailand Pass System is a QR code generating system. To obtain a QR entry code or Thai Pass ID, travelers will have to:

  • Register at the official web portal
  • Input personal details
  • Upload the required documents per their vaccination status
  • Receive a confirmation email after registration (within seconds after registration)
  • Wait for the approval (normally within 1-3 days)

And if approved, you will receive an email with your QR Entry Code or ID, which you will use upon entering Thailand.

1. Apply for Thailand Pass by Yourself

You may apply for the Thailand Pass directly on the MFA website: https://tp.consular.go.th/

If you have already applied by yourself and you need to check the status, please go to: https://tp.consular.go.th/en/check-status

If you already applied and you still did not get the QR code or you were rejected, please email: [email protected]

2. Thailand Pass Application Service by Siam Legal

Application for the Thailand Pass is free-of-charge and you do not need any assistance to apply for it. However, there may be instances where some individuals may voluntarily choose a paid service provider such as a law firm to provide consultation, assist them to prepare their documents, and submit them on their behalf.

Individuals may encounter problems with their documents that are not being uploaded properly or are deemed unacceptable to the Thai embassy or consulate. This may cause delays or rejection of your application, so it may be helpful to retain a service provider to assist you with the application. These paid Thailand Pass services offered by Siam Legal are listed below.

Recommended Thailand Pass Insurance

Based on experience, the common problem for the applications being rejected and travelers being denied boarding their flight is that some insurance policies are not properly worded.

Your COVID 19 insurance must expressly state that it covers up to $10,000 USD medical expenses, including COVID 19 related incidents, and it must cover your whole stay in Thailand.

The Thai Pass system only accepts one attachment therefore it is important to have a one-page Certificate of Insurance with all the required information. To purchase the most reliable insurance that has never had a problem with the Thai Embassy or airline, please click the link below:

My wife and I leave Australia for Phuket on Tuesday morning at 9:20am. As non vaccinated travellers we will get a negative “international PCR test” at 11am Saturday morning within the 72 hr time frame. Adding the PCR Test with other required documents and sending for approval that Saturday. Will our Thailand pass be approved during Saturday, Sunday and Monday before our flight? If not we will miss our flight.

Hello, I would appreciate some help.
I’m assuming If you plan to stay in Thailand for 30 days (with AXA insurance), and then decide to stay for a further 30 days; then I would need to apply for 30 days more insurance coverage with AXA whilst in Thailand?

    • May 27, 2022

      Dear James,

In theory, yes. But in reality, once you are already inside Thailand, no one will check if your have COVID insurance or not. But for your peace of mind, you can get an extension of your insurance validity.
      Thank you.

Hi, I am traveling to Thailand on May 31, 2022. after the application, I received an email confirming that the Thailand Pass system has received my registration. However, when I go and check the status after 2 hours from the application at https://tp.consular.go.th/en/check-status, it says “Access Denied”. Does this appear any issue with my application and approval? I used the same email address for my application, this email is also used to apply for my colleague a few days ago. Using the same email to apply for a different Thai Pass creates this issue? please let me know what I should do to get my Thai Pass in time for my meeting in Thailand? Thank you very much

    • May 26, 2022

      Hi Tran,

If your application has been denied with specific reason or your flight has been delayed and you need to revise the date of arrival, you can edit the information with the access code provided after your first submission. For uploading documents, it should be JPEG or PNG.

    Hi,
I am a Thai national with valid Thai ID, however my Thai passport is expired.
Can I apply for Thai national Thailand pass, or should I apply for Foreigner Thailand pass?
I plan to see if I am allowed to enter the kingdom with my Thai passport/ID, but will also have my foreign passport and insurance in case I need to enter as a foreigner.
    Thanks.

    • June 14, 2022

      Hi Hall,

Your expired Thai Passport will not be accepted, you can use your foreign passport but you need to follow the requirements as normal foreign traveler.

Hi, I am from Malaysia visiting Thailand in mid June, in the AirAsia ticket there is a travel pass option. Can I know if the purchase of that Travel Pass suffice as the insurance requirement to enter Thailand?

Just to double confirm, I need to have a proof of air ticket, passport and vaccinated certificate to attach to Thai travel pass right?
Can please advice from Malaysia to Thailand for a 30day stay

    • June 5, 2022

      Hi Wur,

For application of Thailand Pass, here’s the requirements:
      Passport Information page
      Buy Thailand Travel Insurance
      Flight Itinerary
      Hotel booking confirmation
      Vaccination record (if any)

Further, your covid insurance minimum requirements coverage is USD 10, 000. You can check this http://www.siam-legal.com/axa-insurance

I’m going to be transferring in Bangkok on my way to Bali. So Bangkok (Suvarnabhumi Airport) is only a transit for me (3 hours and 45 minutes). Also on my way back I’ll be transitting in Bangkok (Suvarnabhumi Airport) but for 5 hours and 15 minutes.

    1) Do I need a Transit Visa? As far as I’ve read I don’t need one, as my onward flight is within 12 hours of arriving in Bangkok. But I’m still unsure, because I’ve also read that I need an electronic Thailand visa for transit, as I’m traveling with Thai Airways.

    2) Do I need to apply for the Thailand Pass? I’m not staying in Thailand, other than the transit time. I tried applying for the Thailand Pass, but at one point I have to fill out an address in Thailand, which I don’t have since I’m not staying in Thailand. So if I do have to apply for the Thailand Pass, which address am I supposed to use?

    • June 10, 2022

      Hi Ida,

If layover and if you will not check in at immigration , it’s No, Just obtain travel insurance with covid medical coverage minimum of USD 10,000.

My 19yo daughter and her boyfriend booked for Thailand June 8 (for 30 days) they are not vaccinated.
Do they need to have a negative pcr test before applying for the Thailand pass? Because the test cannot be older than 72h before departure, will the Thailand pass be on time? Or can they implement the negative pcr test result after application of the pass?
All the other requirements as hotel, insurance etc are already arranged.

    • May 26, 2022

      Hi Angel,

It’s either they have 72 hours negative RT PCR valid upon arrival or stay in ASQ hotel for 5 days.

It is confusing the approval time for Thai pass also being within 3 days of departure and negative PCR test within same time frame.

So if my flight leaves thailand at 9 20 PM May 28th to vietnam
Then I need to take a PCR test and apply thai pass on the same day
    May 26th 920 AM correct ?

Is it advisable to apply for Thailand Pass two weeks prior to your arrival date? I just want to make sure I got approved before booking other flights and hotels since Thailand isn’t the only country I will be visiting in the middle of next month.
Also, I’m not too sure how this will work out as I will arrive at the hotel like 1am of June 14 and plan to stay until morning of June 15 then head to Vietnam. So, assuming if I can’t get the PCR test until the morning of June 14, will it give me enough time to get the result before leaving Thailand and head to Vietnam on June 15 noon? I already purchased Health Insurance for the whole trip.
    Thanks.

      Dear Joe,

      Good day.
Yes, if you are fully vaccinated you can apply for No Quarantine Thailand Pass even 1 month before traveling. The processing time is 2 days. If you are unvaccinated, you can only apply for No Quarantine Thailand Pass, within 72 hours before your departure since you need to wait for your RT PCR test result issued within 72 hours before departure also.

My question is in relation to my 12 year old son. Am I correct in reading that my son does not require any tests and qualifies with me as a fully vaccinated parent.

For ref he has also had covid some 6 months ago and fully recovered.

    Thanks

Thailand doesn’t require arrival RT-PCR tests but some countries might need a pre-departure RT-PCR test , the policy differs.

Hello, can I input the address of my house that I have in Hua Hin?
Will that be enough as an address? Is it enough with the address or do I need anything more to show that it is my house?
Do I still need to report to the Thai Immigration in Hua Hin within 24 hours of arrival?

    • May 6, 2022

      Hello Jan-Ola,
Yes, your address is enough, and you need to report to the Thai Immigration in Hua Hin too.

Hi, I’ve plan to travel with my 2 kids. Is there any family insurance plan or do I need to get them individually for my kids?

    • May 5, 2022

      Dear Wlaw,

If you can find a package for family Insurance that would be fine, as long as it includes your 2 kids and the medical expenses was not less than 10,000 USD. And it’s much more cheaper than buying an individual Insurance.

      Thank you.

I would like to know if I still need Thailand Pass since I am just a transit passenger from Hanoi to Manila on May 8, 2022 as I was required in the check-in counter at Noi Bai Airport taking Vietjet flight to Bangkok on April 24, 2022 where I was not allowed, thereby, I was not able to go to Bangkok for a short meeting at the airport (Suvarnahumi) and transferring to Don Mueang International Airport to go back to Hanoi on same day.

    • May 5, 2022

      Hi Eleanor,

You need a Thailand Pass in order to go out of Suvarnabhumi and travel to Don Mueang in the same day.

    Hi,

I’m travelling to Thailand on the 26th May with my son who is 12 years old. I am fully vaccinated and boosted however my son is not.

Am I correct in reading that my son will not require any pre arrival or post arrival tests and he would qualify as with vaccinated parent.

For info he has also had Covid and fully recovered maybe 6 months ago.

    Thanks
    Nad

    • May 5, 2022

      Dear Nad,

Yes, he doesn’t need to do the pre-travel and upon arrival RT-PCR test since it was been lifted last month. However, he must provide a medical certificate of COVID-19 recovery.

      Thank you.

    Hello Sir,

I have a question regarding to the following. Me and my family are going to bangkok from 25 july to 5 august. In the meantime we are going to phuket from bangkok airport, from 30 july to 3 august. Do we need two thailand passes per person (for 25 july and 3 august, since this is after 7 days of 25 july) and another Sandboxx programm??? (my sisters are not vaccinated, but they will do an PCR test. Do they need to do another programm in Phuket??) Can you please help me with this.

    • May 5, 2022

      Hi Rajeev,

You only need a Thailand Pass on your arrival day. After getting inside Thailand, you can travel anywhere.
Your unvaccinated sisters can apply for the AQ program and quarantine for 5 nights or take a pre-departure RT-PCR test and skip the quarantine time.

I am travelling to Phuket under my maiden surname on my passport but my vaccination certificate is under my married surname. Will this be a problem when applying for the pass? Thank you.

    • May 5, 2022

      Dear Carmed,

It might be a problem since it’s not the same with you surname in your passport. However, some of the staff will consider it and your Thailand Pass will get approved some are not but still you can try. I advice you to contact the hospital or clinic and change it with the same surname you have in your passport just to make it sure.

      Thank you.

      Dear Christine,

There is no registration fee for Thailand Pass. There have been reports of people asked illegally to pay registration fees or you may have been in the wrong link. However there some legit legal Companies who have been doing that services.

You may visit this link to resubmit your application if you just want to make sure: https://tp.consular.go.th/

    • May 5, 2022

      Hi Jayram,

Thailand Pass expires 72 hours after the designated date of arrival. You only need it in the arriving process, if you need to stay longer than that you only need to extend your visa.

    • May 5, 2022

      Hi Oang

Before, the requirements for transit in Bangkok were COVID test and Insurance. But since the pre-travel RT-PCR tests have been lifted, you only need Insurance Certificate. Having said that, please check the country of your destination and your airlines. Perhaps for them RT-PCR tests are still mandatory.

For the COVID 19 insurance, please check: http://www.siam-legal.com/axa-insurance

There’s no need to have a RT-PCR test before departure to Thailand, but you need to check with the Singapore authorities about arrival and transit information.
You don’t need to take any covid tests upon arrival in Chiang Mai too.

      Hi Jayram

Thailand Pass only valid on your arrival day. It’s just only need for you your entry requirements. You don’t need to worry if you are staying longer in Thailand, your Thai Pass has no use once you are already in Thailand it doesn’t matter if you will staying longer.

60 days visa and Thailand Pass are completely separated. If you feel the need to apply for the visa, you can do it.

How can I proceed through the application process without submitting the RT-PCR test result and upload the RT-PCR result later when I get my result back?

    • May 5, 2022

      Hi Chris,

      1. You can proceed through the application without submitting the PCR test in case you would like to quarantine for 5 nights in a SHA+ / AQ hotel.
      2. In case you don’t want to quarantine, you can’t complete the application without uploading the RT-PCR test results.
