Top 20 Questions on Thailand Pass

I am an expat leaving Thailand for a short time and returning. Do I have to apply for Thailand Pass and Test & Go?

Yes. At this time, all people entering Thailand must apply for a Thailand Pass and follow Test & Go requirements if they are fully vaccinated. This includes having the required entry requirements such as insurance, SHA+ hotel booking, RT-PCR test, and Thailand Pass approval.

I am an expat returning to Thailand. Can I quarantine at home instead of a hotel?

No. No matter what visa you hold in Thailand, you must follow the Test & Go entry requirements. You must spend 1 night in a SHA+ quarantine hotel while waiting for your RT-PCR test result.

Have the April 1 changes to pre-departure RT-PCR testing come into effect?

Yes. Pre-departure RT-PCR tests are no longer required when entering Thailand.

Has the April 1 change come into effect for the Sandbox scheme?

Yes. The Sandbox scheme now requires only 5 nights of quarantine in the Sandbox designated area. Visitors must now do 1 x RT-PCR test and 1 x ATK test on day 5 instead of 2 x RT-PCR tests. The Test & Go program is a better option for those who are fully vaccinated.

Have the April 1 changes come into effect for the un-vaccinated Alternate Quarantine scheme?

Yes. The Alternate Quarantine timeframe has been reduced from 10 nights to 5 nights. You still need to have 2 x RT-PCR tests during this time. The tests will be taken on Day 1 and on Day 4 or 5.

I booked a 10-day Alternate Quarantine package but I am arriving after April 1. What should I do with the new changes?

You may contact your hotel. If you have not arrived in Thailand before April 1, you are eligible for the updated 5-day Alternate Quarantine scheme. Your hotel will advise what options are available to you.

Do I need to print my Thailand Pass documents for when I arrive at Passport Control in Thailand?

Yes. It is the best practice as you will present these documents to Immigration and Health Officers at the airport Passport and Health Control.

If you only have digital copies and something happens to your electronic device, you will not be allowed to enter the country.

How do I present my Thailand Pass QR code if my mobile phone is not working?

You should print a hard copy of your Thailand Pass QR code. If your mobile device does not work in Thailand, you can still present the QR code to Immigration and Health Officers at the airport Passport and Health Control.

Can I upload my Thailand Pass QR code to the MorChana App before I arrive in Thailand?

No. You can download the MorChana App before arriving in Thailand, but it will not allow uploads until you arrive in the country. You may ask your SHA+ hotel staff to assist you on how to navigate the app.

If I land in Phuket with the correct insurance, my SHA+ hotel, airport transfer, and separate RT-PCR tests booked, can I apply for Test & Go?

Yes. The above requirements are required to apply for Test & Go and Thailand Pass. You will also need to be vaccinated to apply for Test & Go.

Have the April 1 changes affected domestic flights in Thailand?

No. When landing in Thailand, domestic flights on arrival must still be approved “sealed” flights. Please check with Thai Airways and Bangkok Airways for the new list of sealed flights to Phuket and Samui.

Can I do my Test & Go quarantine in Pattaya?

Yes. If you land in Bangkok you can organize Test & Go quarantine in Pattaya. Your SHA+ hotel must provide transport from Bangkok airport to the hotel.

If your flight lands directly at Pattaya airport you will do your RT-PCR test at the airport and then be transported to your hotel.

Are international flights landing in Pattaya?

There are flights now landing directly at Pattaya U-tapao International Airport. Check with your airline provider for available direct flights.

Can I take a domestic flight from Bangkok to Pattaya for Test & Go quarantine?

Only if the flight is an approved “sealed” flight. This should be booked as part of your international flight itinerary.

If you book separate domestic flights, you are required to quarantine for 1 night in Bangkok before traveling to Pattaya.

What SHA+/AQ hotels are available in Pattaya?

You can find the latest information for SHA+/AQ hotels in Pattaya at Agoda.

Why is my US credit card being rejected when trying to book my RT-PCR test?

There is an issue with www.thailandpsas.com approving transactions with American credit cards. You can contact your hotel and they will organize the RT-PCR test booking for you.

I am trying to book hotel transport in Phuket with an American credit card and it is rejected. What can I do?

Transport from the airport to your hotel should be included in your SHA+ quarantine package. If there is an issue booking your hotel with an American credit card, try a different card or purchase through PayPal.

My hotel in Phuket does not offer transport from the hotel. What should I do?

Any SHA+/AQ hotel should include transport from the airport to their hotel. If they do not offer this service, it is best to look at different hotels because you cannot organize private transport.

Where can I see if hotel transfer is included in Phuket when looking at Agoda?

Many Phuket hotels do not list Airport Transfer on their front page. Click into the hotel and look at the bottom left corner of the details page. Airport transfer will be listed here under services offered.

How do I book a private transfer from the airport to a hotel in Phuket?

You cannot. Transfer from Phuket airport to your hotel must be provided by the hotel so it meets all Covid safety measures.

COVID-19 Thailand Visa Amnesty/Extension

What is a visa amnesty or COVID extension?

It is the visa relief or 60-day visa extension for all foreign nationals staying in Thailand affected by the COVID-19 crisis. Foreigners can apply for a COVID extension at any immigration office until March 25, 2022.

Who are covered by the visa amnesty or COVID extension?

All foreign nationals who are legally staying in Thailand whether you are here on visa exemption entry stamps and tourist visas. The holders of non-immigrant visas, or yearly extension of stays are not eligible for the COVID extension.

What are the current implementing rules regarding the visa amnesty or COVID extension?

  • Visas or permits to stay that are still valid and updated by the local Thai immigration office.
  • Foreigners holding a long-term visa such as a working visa, marriage visa, or retirement are required to apply for their yearly extension at the Thai immigration office as usual.
  • Foreigners do not need any embassy letter to be granted the automatic visa extension due to COVID-19.

Is the COVID-19 visa extension free of charge?

The COVID-19 extension of the visa costs 1,900 Thai baht.

Will the visa amnesty be extended?

The validity of the visa amnesty is until March 25, 2022 only. There is no indication that this visa amnesty or grace period will be extended.

What will happen when the visa amnesty is lifted or not extended anymore?

When the situation is resolved and returns to normal, foreigners must leave Thailand on or before the permit to stay date in their passports or they must apply for the proper another type of visa at the immigration office.

90-Day Reporting

If you are a foreigner staying in Thailand for a period longer than 90 consecutive days holding a Non-Immigrant Visa or Extension of Stay, you are required by Thai Immigration to report your current address every 90 days. You may file for the TM47 notification in person, by mail, online, or by an agent. Please check this page: https://www.thaiembassy.com/thailand/90-day-reporting-immigration.php

Consequences of Visa Overstay

During this COVID-19 crisis in Thailand, some foreign nationals may find themselves overstaying in Thailand, do so by mistake, by miscalculating the length of their stay, forgetting their visa expiration date, or by unforeseen cancellation of their flights due to travel restrictions. As a traveler, you should strongly avoid overstaying in Thailand, but if you do find yourself in Thailand on an expired visa it is very important that you act fast and in the right way. Please check this page to learn more of the consequences of overstaying in Thailand: https://www.thaiembassy.com/thailand/overstay-visa-thailand.php

Frequently Asked Questions

To extend a tourist visa, do I need to visit the Thai immigration office in person? I do not want to go to crowded areas at risk of COVID-19 infection.

Yes, there have been no changes regarding the visa extension application whether it is your first time to extend or the second time to extend. The application is still done in person. Thai immigration offices are practicing different measures such as social distancing and disinfecting the area to make sure that the applicants are not at risk of contracting the COVID-19. You might want to see if your local Thai immigration is open on Saturdays. That is a less crowded day of the week to visit the immigration office.

I have tried online reporting and reporting through a mobile app, both attempts failed. What are my other options?

If the online and mobile app reporting does not work, you need to do the reporting by yourself or you can ask a visa agent or third party to do the 90-day address reporting. You need to provide a power of attorney and the 90-day reporting documents such as the original and copy of the passport. There is no immigration fee for address reporting.

Is it required by law to wear a face mask?

The emergency decree issued by the Thai Government that came into effect recommends everyone wear a face mask when they are outside of their residence. However, some provinces such as Phuket have their own rule and you will be subject to a penalty. In Bangkok, commuters are required to wear a face mask when using public transportation and while in public places.

Should I carry my passport at all times?

Yes. If you are a foreigner and you will be out of your residence or hotel, you need to carry your passport especially right now that there are random checks to check the visa validity. It is also good to know that there are banks that would not allow you to enter the premises if you have traveled recently abroad, so it is best to have your passport with you at all times.

I am aware of the entry requirements for foreigners entering Thailand, is there special consideration for those traveling with my Thai family or visiting my Thai family?

At the moment, you can enter Thailand. You just have to make sure that you have obtained a Thailand Pass, purchased COVID-19 Insurance, had a COVID-19 test and you will undergo a mandatory Test and Go or ASQ quarantine.

I have a Non-Immigrant B visa and work permit expiring on April 24, due to my country’s travel restriction I cannot return to Thailand to renew it. What are my options?

If your country does not allow you to travel to Thailand or if your country of departure is under the travel ban, I regret to inform you that there is nothing you are able to do. It is not possible to renew it while you are outside Thailand and it is also not possible to renew it at the Thai embassy in your country. Should your visa and work permit expire while you are outside Thailand, you need to apply for a new non-immigrant B visa for you to enter Thailand and after you have entered Thailand, you can apply for a new work permit.

When do I need the embassy letter for the COVID-19 visa extension?

As of writing, the embassy letter is no longer required by the immigration office to receive the 60-day COVID-19 extensions.

I am looking for flights from Laos to Europe and this requires me to transit in Thailand. Do I need a Health Certificate when transiting? There are multiple different articles including the one on Thai Airways stating that a Health Certificate is required for transiting passengers.

As of writing, international passengers including transiting passengers are required to present a COVID-19 health certificate and negative COVID test result. If you are affected by this travel requirement, you may opt to postpone your travel or you may opt to book a flight that will not transit through Thailand. For the latest update, it is best to contact your airline.

I am a US citizen traveling from the US to Thailand via Hong Kong, am I subject to mandatory quarantine?

No, the mandatory quarantine is not required for any foreigner and Thai travelers entering Thailand via Hong Kong if you are fully vaccinated. You may apply for Thailand Pass under the Test and Go program. The mandatory 10-day quarantine is only required for unvaccinated travelers from any country.

I’m a French national. I have 60 days tourist visa, which is ending soon, but due to COVID-19, I am kind of reluctant to travel back to France. Is there any way that I can extend my visa for another 30 days?

Yes, any nationality holding a 60-day tourist visa entry stamp can extend for 30 days at the local immigration office. For the extension, you just have to submit one passport-size photo (4cm x 6cm) with white background, TM6 card, TM30 receipt from your hotel, and pay the fee of 1,900 Thai baht.

I am British and I entered Thailand on holiday on March 3 and am scheduled to leave on April 1. If my flight is canceled due to COVID-19, I may be forced to overstay my 30 days permit to stay until I have a rescheduled flight. Is this ok? If not, what should I do?

You are able to extend this 30-day visa exemption stamp for another 30 days at the local Thai immigration office. For the extension, you just have to submit one passport-size photo (4cm x 6cm) with white background, TM6 card, TM30 receipt from your hotel, and pay the fee of 1,900 Thai baht.

I am an American and I have a 30-day visa exemption that I extended for an extra 30 days. My current extension will expire on April 1, 2021. What are my options to stay in Thailand due to the travel restriction in other countries?

You have two options: 1.) You can extend your current extension for 30 days at your local immigration office. 2.) You can request a COVID-19 extension and you will be given a 60 days extension at your local Thai immigration office.

I have a non-immigrant O visa for having a Thai wife. It is a single entry visa. My 90-day entry stamp will expire in April and the money in my account has not seasoned yet for 2 months. What can I do?

Since you are legally married to a Thai national, you can apply for a 60-day extension for having a Thai wife. This extension will give you enough time for your funds to season for 2 months. After your funds have seasoned for 2 months, you may apply for a 1-year extension or marriage visa.

My work permit and my visa will expire by the end of the month. Due to the current COVID-19 situation, I am not able to return to my country. What are my options?

Since your visa and your work permit will expire, your only option for an extension of your stay in Thailand is to file for the 60-day COVID extension. You may apply for this extension on the last day of your permit to stay.

I am flying from the USA to Thailand via Hong Kong. Do I still need to present a health certificate and travel insurance?

At the moment, passengers entering Thailand need to obtain the Thailand Pass, purchase a COVID-19 insurance, book Test and Go Hotel for 1 night, or an ASQ Hotel for the 10-day quarantine (if not vaccinated), and obtain a COVID-19 medical certificate.

Can anyone advise what to do regarding my Non-B visa? My Non-B expired on 4th March. I have to pay a fine of 500 baht per day for overstay. The borders around Thailand are closed for me to renew it. I have requested a 30-day extension but was refused. They need my new contract for the new year. This is costing me an arm and a leg. What are my solutions?

The best solution for this is to avoid overstaying so that you will not get in trouble in the future. If you do not have a new contract from the school it is imperative for you to return to your home country until you have a new contract and apply for a new visa from the Thai embassy there. Once you have secured a new non-immigrant B visa, you may return to Thailand together with a copy of the health certificate and health insurance. Another option is to request a COVID extension while you are preparing the documents for your non-immigrant B visa. Some immigration offices are now issuing non-immigrant B visas.

I am a U.S. citizen. I arrived in Bangkok last March 9. My flight to Manila has been canceled on April 8. I am in Pattaya. Do I need a US embassy letter to extend my 45-day Travel Visa? Or can I just go to the Thai Immigration office in Pattaya to get an extension due to COVID-19?

No, you do not need an embassy letter at this time. Your current 45-day visa exemption stamp can be extended for an additional 30 days. For the extension, you just have to submit one passport size photo (4cm x 6cm) with white background, TM6 card, TM30 receipt from your hotel and pay the fee of 1,900 Thai baht.

    Hello,

Thank you for your guidance. I have one year nonimigrant B visa (work visa) until August 30th, with amnesty it is valid until September 26th.
I wanted to do regular extension for one year but my accountant asking to hire 8 people under company name (requarement as before). Bussiness was temporaty closed (resort) and all staff fired.
I still wanna stay as I have bussiness here but don’t wanna hire and pay social security for 8 people…
Is there any detailed info about requarements to extend working visa after September 26?

    • September 3, 2020

      Dear Nadia,
Please know that September 26 is a grace period for those who needs to leave Thailand. In your case, if you need to renew your visa for 1 year, you will follow the same requirement as before.

    Hello,

I’m a French citizen and currently learning Thai on ED visa in Bangkok. I’ve been granted a 14 month ED visa, however I’m requested to leave Thailand after 8 months (my visa is valid until 7th of October) to get another 6 months of ED visa. The problem is that I have nowhere to get this visa as it’s impossible to travel to nearby countries or get back to France to issue the visa (the Thai ambassy in France doesn’t deliver ED visa and there is no flight from France to Thailand).
What can I do in my situation?

    Thank you so much
    Yannick

    • September 3, 2020

      Dear Yannick,
It is only Thailand or France. Please convince your school that the visa must be issued in Thailand because nowhere to go.
Also, it is not completely true that Thai Embassy does not issue ED visa, the embassy will issue ED visa if the school is a university and not language school. It is also not completely true that there is no flight from Paris to Thailand. There are repatriation flight.
      Thank you.

1st I want to thank you for the service you are providing in answering queries surrounding Thailand.

I have a question (another to be honest). I know the repatriation flights are one-way into Thailand. I will be repatriating on a Non-Immigrant Type O visa (to be applied for) with my Thai wife next month.

I am assuming I am going to have to buy a one way return air ticket to show the Embassy I am leaving after the 90 days???

    Thank You

    • August 10, 2020

      Dear Charles,
Yes, the type O visa is a non-immigrant visa and you can book a one-way flight for this type of visa.
      Thank you.

    • August 11, 2020

      Dear Rumi,
As long as you have a Non B visa and valid work permit you are able to apply for the COE and meet the other requirements. you will get this at Thai Embassy in the country of departure. It might be better to do the exit to your home country since you may not be able to travel to nearby countries of Thailand.

Hi. My non-ED visa and my wife’s non-ED visa ended on July 1st. I am now in Thailand under a visa amnesty. We do not want to leave the country because our son is studying at the IEP Banrodfai school. Can I get another LEGAL ED visa without leaving the country? And how can my wife get a NON-Imm guardian visa without leaving and if the child has 1 year of overstay. The child is 10 years old.

    • August 19, 2020

      Dear Nick,
At this time, Thai Immigration has not announced if they would issued new application for Non Immigrant ED visa or Non Immigrant O visa inside Thailand. Since there is no announcement, we can assume that you need to leave the country and go to a Thai Embassy to obtain the Non O guardian visa or new Non Immigrant ED visa. Since there is no announcement from the Head Office of Immigration, we recommend for you to call or visit your local immigration office.

    Hi Rex,

I am a teacher and currently in Doha, Qatar. Every year, me and my husband will travel to Bangkok for our yearly physical at Bumrungrad hospital. We have missed our date travel to Bangkok, which was supposedly first week of August. When do you think is the safest time to travel to Bangkok and get our physical?
My husband is an American and I am from the Philippines holding a Philippine passport.
We usually stay there for 4 days. Is this still possible?
Your advice is greatly appreciated. Thank you,

Thailand has a travel ban on tourists and we do not know yet when this travel ban will be lifted. If you are in Qatar, you may also contact Thai Embassy in Doha if the Thai Embassy there, can issue the permit to enter Thailand under medical reason.

      Dear Phillip,
      Good day.
You are able to return to Thailand when the travel ban if lifted or when the Non-immigrant retirement visas are now allowed to enter Thailand. At this time, the government has not included this group to the list so we have to wait a little longer.

Hello, I am a US Citizen who is going to repatriate back to Thailand with my Thai wife (USA Green card).

If after I receive my COE (Certificate of Entry) I try to pay for the air flights but the airline flight quota is subsequently filled is my COE still valid for a period of time?? Or do I have to apply for a new one?

    Thank you!

    • July 31, 2020

      Dear John,
You may book another flight and use the same certificate of entry. However, you have to make sure that you get a new COVID-19 test before the new flight.
      Thank you.

Any restrictions for a Thai national to exit Thailand? Any measures to take? My Thai son-in-law has a Finnish residency permit and he is going to fly to Finland next week. Arrival in Finland will be ok but we just want to be sure he will be allowed to exit TL at Suvarnabhumi.

    • July 31, 2020

      Dear Ted,
I believe the only screening he has to do is the screening at the airport such as temperature check or perhaps the rapid test for COVID-19.
      Thank you.

    Hi there!

I am in a quite the predicament and need some advice!
I moved to Bangkok last April, and I have lived and worked there since. I came to the US back in March to visit my family for 2 weeks and ended up getting stuck here due to travel bans. I have an active Non B visa with a valid Re-entry stamp for Thailand as well as a work permit. Due to Covid, they gave my position away to someone local, so I am unable to get the letter from my work requesting my return. Now I have an apartment with my belongings, and important documents. How am I supposed to travel back to the country if I cannot receive the letter? I have a work permit, a NON B visa, and a re entry stamp, and residency in Thailand.

    • July 31, 2020

      Dear Kelsie,
If you already have a valid visa, re-entry permit and work permit, you do not need any letter from your employer. Please check this page:

I will look into that again. I do have a couple more questions regarding your answer. It mentions in the application that I need to have an E-Ticket for one of the repatriation flights and my ASQ hotel booked before I can even apply for the COE. Is that correct? And also, when I tried to apply last time, it did say that a letter from my employer was mandatory. So I am just a bit confused at the online application.

    • July 31, 2020

According to the list, it only mention copy of work permit. i recommend for you to call the Thai Embassy directly.

Do you have any info on the fact that it’s saying we need to have an E-ticket for a repatriation flight as well as ASQ hotel booked before we can apply?

For the Visa, I don’t think that is required. For the COE, it will be required.

    • July 31, 2020

      Dear John,
The certificate of entry is valid as long as the travel ban is in place. However, if your certificate of entry was issued on a specific flight, you need to take that flight.

Although you are not going to enter Thailand, you are still subject to the requirements for a foreigner entering Thailand. That would mean, getting the Non Immigrant O visa, certificate of entry, health insurance and other requirements by the Thai Embassy in London.

I stay since 14 March and currently stay until now under amnesty, thanks to Thai Government it was extended more to 26 Sept, since i just have baby so i could stay longer. Do i need to report my stay or anything to do with Immigration? If later the covid pandemic is end and the world back to normal, will it be any problem for me to enter Thailand again because i ever stay under amnesty? Thank you, Rex!

    • July 29, 2020

      Dear Hebie,
The 90-day reporting does not apply to you because you do not hold a long term visa. However, you need to start looking for flights and you must leave Thailand before September 26. If you know that you cannot leave before September 26, please contact the immigration for possible 30 days extension for you.

You cannot stay in Thailand with an expired passport even there is visa amnesty. Dear Burak,
I believe right now, teachers who are on visa amnesty who found a new employment in Thailand may be able to apply for the non-immigrant B visa inside Thailand. I am not sure if the Thai immigration will do this with other non-immigrant B application. All we can do for now to wait for any government announcement if there are new guidelines.

    • July 23, 2020

      Dear Neil,
Yes, Thai nationals can leave Thailand. There have flights where Thais have traveled to the UK. The only requirement at Bangkok Airport is for the Thais and foreigners to undergo the screening. And when they arrive in the UK, I believe there is a self-isolation that is required for the Thais or any foreigner arriving in the UK.

      Dear Nousheen,
If you have received the WP3, yes you must use it now to apply for the Thai visa and certificate of entry from the Thai Embassy in your location. You need to call the Thai Embassy to check the available special flights that are secured to travel to Thailand rather than booking a flight from the airline which might be cancelled. All you have to do now is a constant contact with your local Thai Embassy. It is all on their hands now.

If the visa and work permit was cancelled properly and you are now on visa amnesty, there may be a chance that your new employer can get you a Non Immigrant B visa especially if the new employer is in Bangkok. I recommend for you to check with your local immigration office with the help of the new employer to discuss this issue. Immigration offices are expected to be lenient during this time.

At this point, the only thing you can do is to wait until Thailand allows tourists or for Australia to allow tourists also so that you can marry either in Thailand or in Australia. if there is a change of circumstance such as you are going to be employed by a Thai company, then, you will qualify to enter Thailand based on that.

      Dear Henry,
This certificate of residence, this refers to the PR holders. This PR (permanent residence) is usually valid for 5 years and the holder possesses a white booklet. The Non-immigrant OA visa or the non-immigrant O retirement visas are not under this category.

You mentioned to Liana on 7th and Max 8th that there is no specific requirement for Thais leaving. Is that still the case? Are there any webpages (other than the airline’s) I can monitor to see if there are any changes bewteen now and when she comes to fly?

I know what she has to do when she arrives in UK and I know what is required vice versa (of course fingers crossed it all changes in 7 months time)

    • July 20, 2020

      Dear Charles,
      Good day!
Yes, that is still the case. Thais travelling to the UK will not have a problem leaving Suvarnabhumi airport. The only difficulty they may face is the entry back to Thailand since they need to sign up for the entry documents from Thai Embassy in London if she wishes to return immediately. I would assume that she will use the whole 180-day period of stay in the UK.

If your visa expires on July 29th, there is no time for you to have the certificate of entry and use it to enter Thailand before July 29th. You may be required to get a new visa from Thai embassy in your location if you are married to a Thai or you have a family in Thailand who is working. You also need to apply for the certificate of entry. The best thing to do now is to call the Thai Embassy in your city or country.

To get an extension in Thailand, a work permit is required. If you wish to get the same Non B visa under business category, it has to be issued by a Thai embassy abroad and you may not be able to re-enter Thailand since you don’t have a work permit.

My daughter hold a French passport and was just graduated from her High School ( St. Andrew in BKK, class of 2020). Her ED visa is extended at July 31, 2020. She is waiting to go to University in Canada. However, caused by COVID 19, she cannot go to Canada at least in the next 6 months (till December 2020). We are French: the mother has a work permit and non- immigrant visa ( 1-year, till December 2020); Father and son have ED visas ( with French school in BKK). How and what does my daughter do now for staying in Thailand ( with her family)?. Thanks a lot Madame/ Sir

    • July 16, 2020

The option for your daughter is to apply for the Non-immigrant O visa as dependant of your wife. Please ask the employer of your wife if they can assist in applying for her Non-immigrant O visa.
      Thank you.

    Hello,

I have a medical program for a health condition scheduled in Thailand in August. Can I enter with a health/medical visa? If so, how and where can I apply?

    • July 15, 2020

      Dear Leslie,
Yes, you may qualify for a medical visa. You must contact the Thai Embassy in your country and request for the medical visa and a certificate of entry. Thank you.

    Hello Rex,

My daughter and I are hoping to traveling to Thailand on a medical visa from the US. I understand that there is a fit to fly certificate. Is that in addition to a Covid-19 free test? Where does one obtain one?

Also, for the quarantine in the ASQ hotels, do I have to book 2 rooms or can we stay in one?

    This is all very confusing.

Thank you in advance for your help.

      Dear Sharon,
      Good day.
I would recommend for you to contact the Thai Embassy in Washington DC to know the specific requirements for the issuance of certificate of entry. Fir to Fly certificate is issued by a doctor who also confirmed that you are negative of COVID-19. In my previous comments, I have listed the names of the hotel assigned as ASQ hotels, please check with them directly.
      Thank you.

      Dear Hazki,
You need to report to the immigration office where your visa or extension of stay was issued. Unless you have officially filed for changed of address then you can report in Nonthaburi.

    • July 15, 2020

      Dear Cale,
I believe it is not possible because it will defeat the purpose of a quarantine. But I recommend for you to contact the hotels assigned as ASQ hotels if they allow her to be with you and you may have to extra for it.

    Hi Rex,

I am on a Non-O 3 month VISA and already used my 2-month extension option. The extension expired on 27th March and everything indicates I am OK.

I also already have a letter from the Uk embassy confirming my travel plans were affected.

Am I still covered by the VISA amnesty/auto extension? I have been told maybe not hence I am asking now.

    Thank you!

    • July 15, 2020

      Dear James,
      Here are your options:
      1. You may wait for the government announcement in case the visa amnesty is extended for 1 month or so.
      2. If the visa amnesty is not extended, you may visit the Thai immigration office and request for the 30-day tourist visa extension.
      3. If the visa amnesty is not extended, you may contact your embassy in Bangkok and request for a letter confirming that you are unable to travel to your home country and then visit Thai immigration office and request for the 30-day visa extension.
      4. If you have a change of circumstance such as you have found an employment, you have married a Thai or wishes to retire in Thailand, or study in Thailand, you may be able to apply for the non-immigrant B, ED or O visas.
      5. If the visa amnesty is not extended and you cannot do the options I gave you in items 1-4, then you have no other option but you need to leave Thailand on or before July 31.

For those who are quarantined who acquired entry into Thailand, are they allowed to have any guests who can visit during the quarantine period? What are the rules and precautions mandated as far as having a Thai national friend and family guest visit during the 14 days quarantine period?

    • July 15, 2020

      Dear Serge,
      Good day.
Guests are not allowed to interact with a person under quarantine because that would defeat the purpose of the quarantine. For the rules about quarantine, please contact directly the hotel that are accredited to provide quarantine services. Thank you.

Or I have to apply for a new tourist visa in Thailand?

    Hello!
We are a Canadian couple in Thailand since March 15th. We have stayed under the automatic visa extension until now. We would like to stay in Bangkok until August 11, when our apartment rental is finished. Will we need a letter from our embassy to extend our visa until that time? If I understand correctly, we must simply attend the Mueang Thong Thani temporary office in Bangkok, with our documentation to apply for the extension. Is this correct?
    Thank you for your assistance.

    • July 15, 2020

      Dear Shevaun,
If the visa amnesty will not be extended, yes, you are correct. You need to apply for an extension and you need to visit the Muang Thong Thani temporary immigration office. They may require that you present a letter from your embassy stating you are unable to travel before July 31.

At this time, holders of a retirement visa are not on the list of foreigners allowed to enter Thailand, therefore you are unable to obtain the permit to entry. However, if in the next month, the Thai government includes the retirement visa holders, you may need to apply for the Certificate of Entry from a Thai embassy in the country where you will be flying from or from your home country.

I am living with Thai wife and Thai son.

Many thanks for the work you put into foreigners.

    • July 15, 2020

      Dear David,
      You have 2 options:
      1. You can apply for a 60-day extension from your local immigration office.
      2. Within these 60 days, I recommend that you have deposit 400,000 THB in a Thai bank account so that you will qualify for the 1 year extension of stay under Thai wife category.
If you are unable to have these funds, you will leave Thailand after the 60 days extension and make a border trip, if that is possible already at that time and you will be given 90 days permit to stay upon entry.

      Dear Merck,
      Good day!
I believe the reason why you obtain your non-immigrant B visa in Penang is that your company documents are not good enough to qualify for a 1 year extension of stay inside Thailand. if you are in Thailand right now and you want a 1 year visa, you have do to do the 1 year extension or you must wait till the Malaysian borders will reopen and you can visit Penang for a new visa. You may also ask your employer if your company documents are now good enough to qualify for the 1 year extension so that you can apply for this extension before July 31.

Hello, I am a bit confused about amnesty visa. My wife was on the extenstion of stay based on ED visa which was expired on 22 May. She did not do anything and did not go to immigration office cancel or extend it. So I assume she is on amnesty visa until end of this month (am I right?). Since I am on extension of stay based non-B visa which is valid now, we want to extend her visa based as my dependent (non-O). Is this possible assuming that she is on amnesty visa? According to their earlier announcement, the extension of stay for all types of visas were automatically extended until 31 July. She actually got the letter from the school and the date for completion of her study is written as 31 July. So I am just not sure whether there will be any fine for not extending her temporary stay after 22 May. Thank you very much for you advice in advance.

    • July 10, 2020

      Dear Nosha,
There will be no overstay fine if she did not extend her visa and if she did not leave Thailand on or before May 22. However, it may not be possible to change her stamp into a non-immigrant B visa without leaving the country. We have to wait for announcement next week if the Immigration Offices will be allowed to issue the Non-immigrant B or O visas from having an expired Non-immigrant ED visa.

So is it possible? I also heard that there is a covid19 test at the airport where you have to pay 3000Baht and if the test is negative then you don’t have to quarantine. Is this true?

      Dear David,
I am unable to advise you about the penalty she may face from the US authorities. All we can advise you is that, she is eligible to return to Thailand and all she needs to do is to contact the Thai Embassy in Washington DC, Thai consulates in Los Angeles, Chicago or New York to obtain the certificate of entry or enlist her in the repatriation flights to Thailand.

    Hi,
I’m an Australian national currently on the a tourist visa, without doing my 30 day extension yet.
Also have a Thai wife (Married in Australia) and we’re having a baby here in Pattaya on the 19th of July.

Should I extend my tourist visa and then apply for O dependent visa, what is my best course of action as I need to stay.

    You’re assistance is greatly appreciated.

    Kind regard

    Chris

    • July 10, 2020

      Dear Chris,
First thing you have to do is to make sure your marriage in Australia was reported in Thailand and you now have the Kor Ror 22.
Second, you can apply for the 60-day temporary extension being married to a Thai and arrange the bank account with 400,000 THB.
Third, once the funds are in the account, you can apply for the non-immigrant O visa from the immigration office in the city where you and your wife are residing.
***Note: You may skip second step if the Pattaya Immigration will directly guide you to step 3.

Hello, my British parents live in Bangkok and unfortunately my father has just been diagnosed with cancer which does not have a good prognosis. I would like to travel from UK to see him. Due to the situation the time to get permission and quarantine will mean losing some precious time or maybe not getting there in time.
Is there any special circumstances that mean I can travel To BKK and not do the 14 day quarantine?
    Many thanks

    • July 9, 2020

      Dear Olivia,
Good day. We are sorry to hear about your situation. It will be not possible for you to visit Thailand at this time since you do not belong to the groups of foreigners allowed to enter for the month of July. Your other option would be for you father to travel to the UK instead of you traveling to Thailand.
      Thank you.

I would appreciate if you could help me update my status whether if I have to extend my visa at the Thai consulate or is it been extended automatically by the Immigration due to Covid-19.

    • July 10, 2020

      Dear Rasik,
      Good day.
There is no announcement from the government about the visa extension of stay that expired abroad, so we can assume that you will be required to get a new non-immigrant B visa. I recommend that you check with the Thai Embassy in your location for more information and for you to apply for the certificate of entry to Thailand.

    Dear Rex
from July it seems that Europe is accepting Thai tourists.

Do you know if a Thai citizen (with a Thai passport) can fly from Bangkok to Europe (always in August) just for a pleasure trip: without problems, and without quarantine when he comes back to Thailand?
Obviously with the usual visa rules etc. etc.

I was thinking of travelling to Greece where the Thai tourist seems to be able to travel without any restrictions (from the Greek government).

    Thank you

    Thank you

    Max

    • July 8, 2020

      Dear Max,
      Good day.
There is no restriction for a Thai to travel to Europe. However, after the trip, the Thai national must undergo a mandatory quarantine for 14 days and also the Thai national must obtain a fit-to-fly certificate from Thai Embassy in Athens before she can return to Thailand. Every Thai national coming to Thailand must do this.
      Thank you.

Dear Rex, thank you for your answer.
Just another detail, in BKK seems that from now or in the next weeks they will start to offer quick Covid-test for 3000 B, in order to avoid quarantine.

      https://www.bangkokpost.com/thailand/general/1945448/suvarnabhumi-shows-off-quick-covid-tests

Do you know if this information is correct, and if in this way a Thai returning to home can avoid quarantine?

      Thank you
      Max

    • July 8, 2020

      Dear Max,
This is the proposal by the Suvarnabhumi Airport but the CAAT or Civil Aviation Authority of Thailand has not added this option in its July 3rd announcement or guideline. Once this information is confirmed by the CAAT, we will also update our website or this page.

Hi, I applied for a new passport at the South African Embassy in Bangkok in April 2020. Received an email last week the application has not been sent yet, borders are closed. Basically no chance of getting a new passport in the next three months. My passport expires along with my multiple entry visa on 2 Sept 2020. Work permit expires 18 Oct 2020.

Do I have any options other than getting on a plane before 2 Sept 2020?

Thanks for all the advice you give us foreigners.

    • July 7, 2020

      Dear Greg,
Good day. Your problem is an internal problem which involves your own embassy. I think the smartest way is to find a way for you to get a new passport so that you can transfer your visa and be able to renew it before September 2020.

      Hello,
I’m a little confused on the visa amnesty and extension. I entered Thailand on a 6month Multiple Entry tourist visa in January and have stayed until now due to the amnesty given. I have a US passport. Am I eligible to pay for the 30 day extension once the amnesty ends on July 31st? I have not payed for an extension prior.

Thank you for any clarification on this matter.

    • July 15, 2020

      Dear Rafael,
      Good day!
      Here are your options:
      1. You may wait for the government announcement in case the visa amnesty is extended for 1 month or so.
      2. If the visa amnesty is not extended, you may visit the Thai immigration office and request for the 30-day tourist visa extension if your last entry stamp was the 60-day entry stamp.
      Thank you.

Yes, Thai are allowed to travel as long as they have a long term visa to the destination country and they are able to return to Thailand. If the Thai is traveling to Netherlands for a short visit, you must make sure that Thai embassy in The Hague is open to issue a certificate of entry for this person to return to Thailand. Thank you.

    • July 9, 2020

      Dear Richard,
The WP3 applications are suspended therefore you cannot obtain it right now. That would also mean, you cannot apply for the Non immigrant B visa. Which will eventually cause you the delay to apply for the certificate of Entry.
All we can do is to patiently wait until these offices are going back to work.

Good day. I regret to information you that the Thai immigration office has not given any guideline for foreigners who were stranded abroad and were not able to renew their visas. However, if you would call the Thai embassy in Canberra they will advise you that re-application will be required. It means once your visa is expired, you need to apply for a new one just like when you first did the visa. As for the blanket extension of viasas for those who are in Thailand, there is also no information from the Thai government.

I have a NON-IMMIGRANT O-A (retirement) visa I applied for & received by mail from the Thai Embassy in Washington, DC before I flew from the USA to Thailand in October 2019. I am back in the USA now. Can I renew this O-A visa with the Thai Embassy in Washington, DC ? If so…Is the procedure for renewing my current O-A visa different from applying for the initial O-A visa ?

If I can renew my current O-A visa or if I have to apply for a new O-A visa….when would I be able to return to Thailand ?

My current USA Medicare health insurance covers emergency room visits in foreign countries. I know that I would have to pay the Thai Emergency Room bill first then get reimbursed from my USA Medicare Insurance. Can my USA Medicare coverage be used instead of buying Thai Health Insurance to renew or get a new O-A VISA ?

    • July 7, 2020

      Dear Larry,
      Good day.
If the borders of Thailand opens before the expiry of your visa sticker, you will be given 1 year permit to stay from date of arrival. If the visa sticker expired already at the time you plan to return to Thailand, you will be obligated to apply for a new non-immigrant OA visa. It will be the same requirements and the same process as last year. Health insurance will be required. Please know that you may be required to apply for certificate of entry on top of your new visa. Certificate of entry will require a separate travel insurance covering COVID-19.

    Hello Rex,
Thank you for sending through the new published requirements for spouses of Thais to travel to Thailand – I appreciate very much you being proactive.

I have a few concerns however:
    1) It seems that we are supposed to send over Fit to Fly and Covid-free certificates both upon applying for the Certificate of Entry and then again have new ones for the 72 hours before departure. That would mean getting both of them twice. Is that what is really intended?
    2) I would travel with my family but it seems only I would have to quarantine in a hotel, while they would all be free to go to the Condo we own. Is that right? It means that if, by some chance, we did have Covid, we would probably have passed it to each other, and so be infecting two places instead of only one. Surely, we should all be allowed to stay together. Has the concept of “villa quarantine” been dropped?
    3) We own a condo and I also have many relationships in Thailand. I may come in several times over the remainder of the year, assuming it remains safe to do so. Might I be able to get an O-A visa or even O-X? I am 54 and have adequate funds to make the required deposits.

    • July 7, 2020

      Dear Simon,
      Good day.
I would recommend for you to contact the Thai Embassy in London because your questions are very specific and it is best to be answered by a Thai Embassy Officer. As for your question on “Villa quarantine” it has not been approved and it might happen or bound to happen for August 2020. I am not sure if applying for O-A visa or O-X visa is a good idea since you want to return to Thailand for having Thai wife or Thai children. It might be wiser to just keep it on a Non immigrant O visa.
      Thank you.
