Top 20 Questions on Thailand Pass

I am an expat leaving Thailand for a short time and returning. Do I have to apply for Thailand Pass and Test & Go?

Yes. At this time, all people entering Thailand must apply for a Thailand Pass and follow Test & Go requirements if they are fully vaccinated. This includes having the required entry requirements such as insurance, SHA+ hotel booking, RT-PCR test, and Thailand Pass approval.

I am an expat returning to Thailand. Can I quarantine at home instead of a hotel?

No. No matter what visa you hold in Thailand, you must follow the Test & Go entry requirements. You must spend 1 night in a SHA+ quarantine hotel while waiting for your RT-PCR test result.

Have the April 1 changes to pre-departure RT-PCR testing come into effect?

Yes. Pre-departure RT-PCR tests are no longer required when entering Thailand.

Has the April 1 change come into effect for the Sandbox scheme?

Yes. The Sandbox scheme now requires only 5 nights of quarantine in the Sandbox designated area. Visitors must now do 1 x RT-PCR test and 1 x ATK test on day 5 instead of 2 x RT-PCR tests. The Test & Go program is a better option for those who are fully vaccinated.

Have the April 1 changes come into effect for the un-vaccinated Alternate Quarantine scheme?

Yes. The Alternate Quarantine timeframe has been reduced from 10 nights to 5 nights. You still need to have 2 x RT-PCR tests during this time. The tests will be taken on Day 1 and on Day 4 or 5.

I booked a 10-day Alternate Quarantine package but I am arriving after April 1. What should I do with the new changes?

You may contact your hotel. If you have not arrived in Thailand before April 1, you are eligible for the updated 5-day Alternate Quarantine scheme. Your hotel will advise what options are available to you.

Do I need to print my Thailand Pass documents for when I arrive at Passport Control in Thailand?

Yes. It is the best practice as you will present these documents to Immigration and Health Officers at the airport Passport and Health Control.

If you only have digital copies and something happens to your electronic device, you will not be allowed to enter the country.

How do I present my Thailand Pass QR code if my mobile phone is not working?

You should print a hard copy of your Thailand Pass QR code. If your mobile device does not work in Thailand, you can still present the QR code to Immigration and Health Officers at the airport Passport and Health Control.

Can I upload my Thailand Pass QR code to the MorChana App before I arrive in Thailand?

No. You can download the MorChana App before arriving in Thailand, but it will not allow uploads until you arrive in the country. You may ask your SHA+ hotel staff to assist you on how to navigate the app.

If I land in Phuket with the correct insurance, my SHA+ hotel, airport transfer, and separate RT-PCR tests booked, can I apply for Test & Go?

Yes. The above requirements are required to apply for Test & Go and Thailand Pass. You will also need to be vaccinated to apply for Test & Go.

Have the April 1 changes affected domestic flights in Thailand?

No. When landing in Thailand, domestic flights on arrival must still be approved “sealed” flights. Please check with Thai Airways and Bangkok Airways for the new list of sealed flights to Phuket and Samui.

Can I do my Test & Go quarantine in Pattaya?

Yes. If you land in Bangkok you can organize Test & Go quarantine in Pattaya. Your SHA+ hotel must provide transport from Bangkok airport to the hotel.

If your flight lands directly at Pattaya airport you will do your RT-PCR test at the airport and then be transported to your hotel.

Are international flights landing in Pattaya?

There are flights now landing directly at Pattaya U-tapao International Airport. Check with your airline provider for available direct flights.

Can I take a domestic flight from Bangkok to Pattaya for Test & Go quarantine?

Only if the flight is an approved “sealed” flight. This should be booked as part of your international flight itinerary.

If you book separate domestic flights, you are required to quarantine for 1 night in Bangkok before traveling to Pattaya.

What SHA+/AQ hotels are available in Pattaya?

You can find the latest information for SHA+/AQ hotels in Pattaya at Agoda.

Why is my US credit card being rejected when trying to book my RT-PCR test?

There is an issue with www.thailandpsas.com approving transactions with American credit cards. You can contact your hotel and they will organize the RT-PCR test booking for you.

I am trying to book hotel transport in Phuket with an American credit card and it is rejected. What can I do?

Transport from the airport to your hotel should be included in your SHA+ quarantine package. If there is an issue booking your hotel with an American credit card, try a different card or purchase through PayPal.

My hotel in Phuket does not offer transport from the hotel. What should I do?

Any SHA+/AQ hotel should include transport from the airport to their hotel. If they do not offer this service, it is best to look at different hotels because you cannot organize private transport.

Where can I see if hotel transfer is included in Phuket when looking at Agoda?

Many Phuket hotels do not list Airport Transfer on their front page. Click into the hotel and look at the bottom left corner of the details page. Airport transfer will be listed here under services offered.

How do I book a private transfer from the airport to a hotel in Phuket?

You cannot. Transfer from Phuket airport to your hotel must be provided by the hotel so it meets all Covid safety measures.

COVID-19 Thailand Visa Amnesty/Extension

What is a visa amnesty or COVID extension?

It is the visa relief or 60-day visa extension for all foreign nationals staying in Thailand affected by the COVID-19 crisis. Foreigners can apply for a COVID extension at any immigration office until March 25, 2022.

Who are covered by the visa amnesty or COVID extension?

All foreign nationals who are legally staying in Thailand whether you are here on visa exemption entry stamps and tourist visas. The holders of non-immigrant visas, or yearly extension of stays are not eligible for the COVID extension.

What are the current implementing rules regarding the visa amnesty or COVID extension?

  • Visas or permits to stay that are still valid and updated by the local Thai immigration office.
  • Foreigners holding a long-term visa such as a working visa, marriage visa, or retirement are required to apply for their yearly extension at the Thai immigration office as usual.
  • Foreigners do not need any embassy letter to be granted the automatic visa extension due to COVID-19.

Is the COVID-19 visa extension free of charge?

The COVID-19 extension of the visa costs 1,900 Thai baht.

Will the visa amnesty be extended?

The validity of the visa amnesty is until March 25, 2022 only. There is no indication that this visa amnesty or grace period will be extended.

What will happen when the visa amnesty is lifted or not extended anymore?

When the situation is resolved and returns to normal, foreigners must leave Thailand on or before the permit to stay date in their passports or they must apply for the proper another type of visa at the immigration office.

90-Day Reporting

If you are a foreigner staying in Thailand for a period longer than 90 consecutive days holding a Non-Immigrant Visa or Extension of Stay, you are required by Thai Immigration to report your current address every 90 days. You may file for the TM47 notification in person, by mail, online, or by an agent. Please check this page: https://www.thaiembassy.com/thailand/90-day-reporting-immigration.php

Consequences of Visa Overstay

During this COVID-19 crisis in Thailand, some foreign nationals may find themselves overstaying in Thailand, do so by mistake, by miscalculating the length of their stay, forgetting their visa expiration date, or by unforeseen cancellation of their flights due to travel restrictions. As a traveler, you should strongly avoid overstaying in Thailand, but if you do find yourself in Thailand on an expired visa it is very important that you act fast and in the right way. Please check this page to learn more of the consequences of overstaying in Thailand: https://www.thaiembassy.com/thailand/overstay-visa-thailand.php

Frequently Asked Questions

To extend a tourist visa, do I need to visit the Thai immigration office in person? I do not want to go to crowded areas at risk of COVID-19 infection.

Yes, there have been no changes regarding the visa extension application whether it is your first time to extend or the second time to extend. The application is still done in person. Thai immigration offices are practicing different measures such as social distancing and disinfecting the area to make sure that the applicants are not at risk of contracting the COVID-19. You might want to see if your local Thai immigration is open on Saturdays. That is a less crowded day of the week to visit the immigration office.

I have tried online reporting and reporting through a mobile app, both attempts failed. What are my other options?

If the online and mobile app reporting does not work, you need to do the reporting by yourself or you can ask a visa agent or third party to do the 90-day address reporting. You need to provide a power of attorney and the 90-day reporting documents such as the original and copy of the passport. There is no immigration fee for address reporting.

Is it required by law to wear a face mask?

The emergency decree issued by the Thai Government that came into effect recommends everyone wear a face mask when they are outside of their residence. However, some provinces such as Phuket have their own rule and you will be subject to a penalty. In Bangkok, commuters are required to wear a face mask when using public transportation and while in public places.

Should I carry my passport at all times?

Yes. If you are a foreigner and you will be out of your residence or hotel, you need to carry your passport especially right now that there are random checks to check the visa validity. It is also good to know that there are banks that would not allow you to enter the premises if you have traveled recently abroad, so it is best to have your passport with you at all times.

I am aware of the entry requirements for foreigners entering Thailand, is there special consideration for those traveling with my Thai family or visiting my Thai family?

At the moment, you can enter Thailand. You just have to make sure that you have obtained a Thailand Pass, purchased COVID-19 Insurance, had a COVID-19 test and you will undergo a mandatory Test and Go or ASQ quarantine.

I have a Non-Immigrant B visa and work permit expiring on April 24, due to my country’s travel restriction I cannot return to Thailand to renew it. What are my options?

If your country does not allow you to travel to Thailand or if your country of departure is under the travel ban, I regret to inform you that there is nothing you are able to do. It is not possible to renew it while you are outside Thailand and it is also not possible to renew it at the Thai embassy in your country. Should your visa and work permit expire while you are outside Thailand, you need to apply for a new non-immigrant B visa for you to enter Thailand and after you have entered Thailand, you can apply for a new work permit.

When do I need the embassy letter for the COVID-19 visa extension?

As of writing, the embassy letter is no longer required by the immigration office to receive the 60-day COVID-19 extensions.

I am looking for flights from Laos to Europe and this requires me to transit in Thailand. Do I need a Health Certificate when transiting? There are multiple different articles including the one on Thai Airways stating that a Health Certificate is required for transiting passengers.

As of writing, international passengers including transiting passengers are required to present a COVID-19 health certificate and negative COVID test result. If you are affected by this travel requirement, you may opt to postpone your travel or you may opt to book a flight that will not transit through Thailand. For the latest update, it is best to contact your airline.

I am a US citizen traveling from the US to Thailand via Hong Kong, am I subject to mandatory quarantine?

No, the mandatory quarantine is not required for any foreigner and Thai travelers entering Thailand via Hong Kong if you are fully vaccinated. You may apply for Thailand Pass under the Test and Go program. The mandatory 10-day quarantine is only required for unvaccinated travelers from any country.

I’m a French national. I have 60 days tourist visa, which is ending soon, but due to COVID-19, I am kind of reluctant to travel back to France. Is there any way that I can extend my visa for another 30 days?

Yes, any nationality holding a 60-day tourist visa entry stamp can extend for 30 days at the local immigration office. For the extension, you just have to submit one passport-size photo (4cm x 6cm) with white background, TM6 card, TM30 receipt from your hotel, and pay the fee of 1,900 Thai baht.

I am British and I entered Thailand on holiday on March 3 and am scheduled to leave on April 1. If my flight is canceled due to COVID-19, I may be forced to overstay my 30 days permit to stay until I have a rescheduled flight. Is this ok? If not, what should I do?

You are able to extend this 30-day visa exemption stamp for another 30 days at the local Thai immigration office. For the extension, you just have to submit one passport-size photo (4cm x 6cm) with white background, TM6 card, TM30 receipt from your hotel, and pay the fee of 1,900 Thai baht.

I am an American and I have a 30-day visa exemption that I extended for an extra 30 days. My current extension will expire on April 1, 2021. What are my options to stay in Thailand due to the travel restriction in other countries?

You have two options: 1.) You can extend your current extension for 30 days at your local immigration office. 2.) You can request a COVID-19 extension and you will be given a 60 days extension at your local Thai immigration office.

I have a non-immigrant O visa for having a Thai wife. It is a single entry visa. My 90-day entry stamp will expire in April and the money in my account has not seasoned yet for 2 months. What can I do?

Since you are legally married to a Thai national, you can apply for a 60-day extension for having a Thai wife. This extension will give you enough time for your funds to season for 2 months. After your funds have seasoned for 2 months, you may apply for a 1-year extension or marriage visa.

My work permit and my visa will expire by the end of the month. Due to the current COVID-19 situation, I am not able to return to my country. What are my options?

Since your visa and your work permit will expire, your only option for an extension of your stay in Thailand is to file for the 60-day COVID extension. You may apply for this extension on the last day of your permit to stay.

I am flying from the USA to Thailand via Hong Kong. Do I still need to present a health certificate and travel insurance?

At the moment, passengers entering Thailand need to obtain the Thailand Pass, purchase a COVID-19 insurance, book Test and Go Hotel for 1 night, or an ASQ Hotel for the 10-day quarantine (if not vaccinated), and obtain a COVID-19 medical certificate.

Can anyone advise what to do regarding my Non-B visa? My Non-B expired on 4th March. I have to pay a fine of 500 baht per day for overstay. The borders around Thailand are closed for me to renew it. I have requested a 30-day extension but was refused. They need my new contract for the new year. This is costing me an arm and a leg. What are my solutions?

The best solution for this is to avoid overstaying so that you will not get in trouble in the future. If you do not have a new contract from the school it is imperative for you to return to your home country until you have a new contract and apply for a new visa from the Thai embassy there. Once you have secured a new non-immigrant B visa, you may return to Thailand together with a copy of the health certificate and health insurance. Another option is to request a COVID extension while you are preparing the documents for your non-immigrant B visa. Some immigration offices are now issuing non-immigrant B visas.

I am a U.S. citizen. I arrived in Bangkok last March 9. My flight to Manila has been canceled on April 8. I am in Pattaya. Do I need a US embassy letter to extend my 45-day Travel Visa? Or can I just go to the Thai Immigration office in Pattaya to get an extension due to COVID-19?

No, you do not need an embassy letter at this time. Your current 45-day visa exemption stamp can be extended for an additional 30 days. For the extension, you just have to submit one passport size photo (4cm x 6cm) with white background, TM6 card, TM30 receipt from your hotel and pay the fee of 1,900 Thai baht.

Hi, thanks for all your info your providing, 🙂

I arrived in March on a 60-day tourist visa. I’m married to a Thai lady and have all marriage certificates etc. As I’m 41 years old without children what visa can I get? We were planning to return to the UK in June but if flights are still canceled what are my options?

    Thanks in advance.

    • On top of your 60-day entry stamp, you can get a temporary 60-day visa extension for having Thailand. You only need to visit your local immigration office to get this extension. For the extension, you just have to submit proof of marriage, one passport size photo (4cm x 6cm) with white background, TM6 departure card, TM30 receipt from your hotel and pay the fee of 1,900 Thai baht.

Hi, thank you for posting this and keeping everyone updated. I just want to check something with you as I’m failing to get an answer anywhere.
    1. I’m traveling on a Polish passport and currently staying in Krabi with my partner who is on a British passport. Our flights back to Malaysia and UK have been canceled due to the lockdown and we are waiting on a reply to see if we can get put on a flight out from Phuket airport on 1st April. If successful, do we need to provide a health certificate that we are free of Covid-19 to leave from Phuket? Or is that only required if we need to transit in Thailand? (So if the flight is Phuket-Bangkok, Bangkok-London)?

    2. If we DO need a health certificate, where do we obtain one from Thailand and what is the cost of it?
    Many thanks!

Hello, I’m Dutch and so is our 4yr old daughter. My Thai wife and mother of our daughter who lives with me in the Netherlands for over 10 years have a permit to stay in The Netherlands. Can she still leave Thailand with us?

    • There is no travel ban or restriction for passengers exiting or leaving Thailand. However, you need to check if she will be allowed to enter the Netherlands.

Hello, I’m a Russian national and have a 60-day TR visa (obtained before this situation with COVID-19). Now I’m staying in an apartment but next week I’m moving to a hotel for a week (further I might get back to the apartment). I would like to extend my visa for more than 30 days since I’m both reluctant to travel back to my country and do not want to pose myself to the infection at airports.

Could you please list out the full package of documents I must provide to the Immigration in Bangkok for visa extension? Additional specific questions:
    – Should I provide the test on COVID-19 for the extension?
    – Should I provide the medical insurance for the extension?
    – Is the TM30 form is necessary or the copy/original of lease agreement of the apartment is enough in my case? If TM30, from which accommodations – apartment or hotel, or both?

    • COVID-19 tests and insurance are not required to get the visa extension. TM30 receipt is required but if you do not have it, you may pay the penalty of 800 THB. You may also bring a copy of the lease agreement or proof of payment in case you are staying in a hotel.

Do I still have to go to the immigration office to apply for the 60-day extension? or is there another way to get the extension? thank you

    • Right now, the Thai immigration has not set new ways to do a visa application. As of now, the application remains the same, you and your wife will visit your local immigration office for the 60-day temporary extension.

I am currently in Europe but want to come back do Bangkok to my husband (he works in Thailand). We live in Bangkok tor 2 years. We are both Europeans. I have a non-immigrant (dependant) visa. Am I allowed to enter Thailand now due to the coronavirus situation?

    • Please be informed that Thailand has closed all land, sea and air borders to arriving foreigners. Only Thai nationals, foreign diplomats, shippers, drivers, pilots and others permitted by the prime minister are allowed to enter Thailand. This is effective starting March 26 until April 30, 2020.

      Hello,
I am supposed to get to Chantaburi after some travel in Myanmar. My cousin owns a resort there, together with his ex-wife. I was gonna go visit them and work at the resort for a couple of months. So I wonder, when will the borders of Thailand open again?

    • At this time, the closure of borders and entry to Thailand is effective until April 30 subject to extension if necessary.

Many thanks for your swift response to my visa and guidance on COVID-19.
Let me share how much re-assured I am, as a non-Thai resident, to witness how responsive and diligent the Thai Government is in handling the pandemic in their country.
I wish other countries could be as proactive and take similar health measures implemented in Thailand.

    • Glad to help.

      I am a Malaysian holding a Thai Non-Immigrant Visa.

I booked a flight to go home 8th Apr (fly from Udon to Hatyai, then enter Malaysia by train). Re-entry permit also readied.
However, my flight was canceled due to Covid. Border to Malaysia closed, and Gov announced lockdown till 14/4. Thailand too announced entry control.

My Visa is going to due on 5th Aug. With the current tension and very unpredictable future, in ~4+ months’ time, it is impossible for me to make another plan home (before Visa due).

Question: Thailand restricts entry, the re-entry permit has no opportunity to be utilized, and my Visa is coming to due. In this case, can it be refunded? OR allow for a bring forward to the next renewal/extension period? OR a waive for future re-entry?

Please advise the documents you need if the above mentioned is possible. And the timeframe. Can I do it all together when I go to the Immigration for the Visa extension in July-Aug? (It’s another critically to go out into the public now. It’s hard to get a driver, and public transport is limited.)

I called Sakon Immigration. They said they didn’t receive any top-down regards to this. Unused re-entry permit will be burnt away together with Visa due.

I appreciate the Authority to review this matter fairly. (Conditions didn’t allow me to go out, nor to get in)

      Thank you.

    • If you are unable to use the re-entry permit on the given period of validity, the re-entry permit fee is non-refundable.

    • You will need a “Fit-to-Fly” certificate in order to transit in Thailand. You may contact your airline for specific requirements about this certificate.

Please can you explain to me why all flights except Qatar have been grounded in Phuket to fly to South Africa as our family is now stranded in Phuket due to two airlines canceling our flights and we have been told no plans will be flying from Phuket to South Africa?

    • Unfortunately, we are not able to explain why your airlines canceled the flight. It could be that there are not enough passengers for the flight or due to travel restrictions on the country where your airline is flying to.

I am a Dutch citizen and will be able to request the 30 days extension letter at the Dutch Embassy. Looking at how things are going, I assume that it will take much longer than only 30 days extra before all issues are solved. If I need to do a second 30 days extension or maybe even more, should I ask a new letter from my embassy or can I use the first letter multiple times, till everything is solved and I can fly home again?

    • Right now, the government can extend your stay in Thailand for 30 days with the help of your embassy letter. However, if the situation does not improve after 30 days, I believe the Thai government will issue another emergency measure to cover your stay in Thailand. Perhaps the Dutch government will also intervene and assist you to be relocated back to the Netherlands.

Thank you. I have another question. my current visa expires on April 15. The Dutch embassy will issue a letter for me. If I ask for the letter now, will it still be valid on April 15? I read somewhere that the letter may not be older than 14 days?

    • Yes, the letter will still be valid in April as long as you have not used the letter for an extension. To be sure, it is recommended to check with your local immigration office if there is a specific requirement for the validity of the letter.

    • If you are not able to fly home on April 22, please contact your embassy or consulate in Thailand to provide a letter stating that you are affected by the current COVID-19 crisis and that your flight has been canceled. The embassy will request the immigration office to extend your stay for another 30 days.

UK citizen flying home on Monday 30th March with Thai airlines. Will I need a medical certificate stating I am free from Coronavirus?

    • No, a health certificate is not required for passengers or travelers exiting from Thailand as long as the person was not under the mandatory quarantine during his stay in Thailand.

My brother has been living in Thailand for the last 11 years and leaves to renew his visa when required. He had a trip booked to Vietnam but with the outbreak of Covid19 and border closures, he was not able to go. What should he do as his visa is due to expire very soon? Will he have to return to the UK? What if he can’t get a flight in time and his visa expires?

    • If he is not able to leave Thailand to return to the UK, please contact your embassy or consulate in Thailand. Hello!

I am a native German who landed on the 19th of March with a 60-day Tourist Visa. I am doing a self-quarantine in Cha-Am. When to extend the visa? Right now or after the self-quarantine?

How to extend the visa? I have no scooter. No car. The next immigration bureau is more than 20km away. How to get there?

Wondering what many might wonder. Stay here – and (kind of) ride it out? What’s gonna happen to us foreigners in regards to visa? Should we all just leave?

I have a Thai girlfriend. And she cannot enter the EU for now. So we would like to be here together.

If going home I need to stay with my parents, which would be exposed to a high risk of Covid from me traveling halfway around the world to get home – and they are a risk group because of age and health.

Wondering what to do… Looking forward to some form of advice and to connecting to people in similar situations.

    • You are able to extend your visa for an extra 30 days starting April 20, 2020. To extend your stay, you need to visit the Cha-Am Immigration Office. You are able to extend for another 30 days at the local immigration office. For the extension, you just have to submit one passport size photo (4cm x 6cm) with white background, TM6 card, TM30 receipt from your hotel and pay the fee of 1,900 Thai baht.

    • Yes, you can definitely apply for a 60-day temporary visa extension for having a Thai wife. For the extension, you just have to submit one passport size photo (4cm x 6cm) with white background, TM6 card, TM30 receipt, marriage document and pay the fee of 1,900 Thai baht.

In the light of the Corona Virus and for the people that cannot do forward travel with proof of canceled flight by Airline, I think it is a disgrace that Thai immigration are charging people 1900 Baht for extending visa’s through no fault of the tourist for 30 days.
Surely this is morally wrong and is punishing the law-abiding citizens.

    • The 1900 THB has been the standard fee for all visa extensions. I believe the government is not to blame on the current crisis. The travelers were advised by their own country/embassy to return to their homeland weeks before this outbreak.

    Hello,
I am from the USA. I am married to a Thai citizen and we have a marriage certificate. I have a 90-day Non-O Visa so I can start the Marriage Extension/Visa process when I arrive. I have a reservation to fly to Thailand on March 30 but now Thailand has blocked all foreigners from entering Thailand because of the worldwide COVID-19 crisis.

If the Thai government continues to block foreigners from entering Thailand for many months, will the Thai government kindly extend the “VALID UNTIL” date on my Non-O Visa which expires on May 18? The process of acquiring this Visa was expensive. Thank you in advance for your help.

    • Yes, foreigners are not allowed to enter Thailand until the end of April. If the situation will not improve and you are not able to enter Thailand before May 18, 2020, you need to apply for a new non-immigrant O visa from the Thai embassy or consulate. You may also contact the embassy that issued the visa if they are able to re-issue it without an additional fee.

What dates will the Pattaya immigration office be closed over Easter? And, the 30-day extension, does that start the day that I visit the office to apply for the extension, or from the end of the 30-day exemption, I received when I arrived in BKK?

    Hi

I’m asking this question on behalf of my friend. She is a Thai citizen and currently in Malaysia. Her visitor pass will expire on 8th April. I have a few questions:

    1) can she extend her visitor pass here in Malaysia without going back to Thailand now in view of the emergency situation in both countries?
    2) can she travel (by land or by air) from Malaysia to Thailand now?
    3) if yes to question 2, is there anything she needs to prepare in regards to the current Covid-19 situation, e.g. health certificate?
    4) what happens if she cant provide?

    Thank you in advance! Soon

    • If the Thai citizen is in Malaysia right now, she needs to return to Thailand. In order for her to return to Thailand, she needs to obtain a “Fit-to-Fly” health certificate from the Thai embassy in Kuala Lumpur.

Hi There, thanks for the reply. Unfortunately, the Thai citizen is not in KL and cant travel to KL due to the Movement Control Order in Malaysia. There is no Thai embassy where she is at now. do you have any suggestion?

besides, I believe it will be useful for Thailand and Malaysia immigration to come to an agreement to automatically extend stranded citizens at both countries where many others are affected. May I ask if this is an on-going discussion and a plan to be announced soon?

      thanks in advance!

    • There is no ongoing discussion about opening up the borders. Thai citizens can still fly back to Thailand given there are flights available. If there is no Thai embassy or consulate in your city, please ask your Thai partner to call the Thai embassy directly for further instructions.

Hi, I’m a Taiwanese in Bangkok now, and I have a traveling visa for 60 days(it will be expired on 31, March). However, I get an offer from the Thailand local company today.
1.) Can I apply for a working visa without going back to Taiwan? Because the Taiwan government hasn’t provided the service of testing COVID-19 personally, which means I can’t get “Health Certificate of COVID19” and come back to Thailand in the future.
2.) I know I can extend 30 days of my traveling visa before it expires. If I can stay in Thailand for applying for a working visa, can I extend my traveling visa for 90 days in order to get a working visa currently?
3.) If I can’t extend for 90 days for a traveling visa this time, how many times I can extend my visa after it expired?
    Thanks

Is there something different with the 30 days visa exemption stamp for Vietnamese citizens? I arrived on March 12 and was given a 30 days visa exemption stamp until April 10th. Today, March 25th, I went to the immigration office in Chonburi to extend for an additional 30 days for 1900 baht. I waited 3 hours in line with all my paperwork, but was told at the counter, I only qualify for a 7 days extension, not 30 days? I have never extended before today and both my flights have been canceled by the airlines, NokAir and Vietnam Airlines for April 10th.

    • The 30 days stamp of the Vietnamese passport is under the bilateral agreement between Thailand and Vietnam. This stamp can only be extended for 7 days. If this is not enough, please contact your embassy or consulate in Thailand to provide you a letter stating that you are affected by the current COVID-19 crisis and that your flight has been canceled. My pensions from the UK are over £24,000 per year and are OK for a retirement visa with a letter from the British Embassy, which they have now stopped.

I have had to make one trip to Cambodia and one trip to Laos because of Thai Immigration.

I returned to Thailand in May 2019, on a 3-month non-immigrant and got married in my Thai girlfriend for 11 years and planning to get a marriage visa. I have been rejected twice from Thai Immigration in Saraburi as I don’t have 400,000 baht in my Thai bank account but as I have been transferring over 45,000 a month for 9 months.

You search the internet it is 400,000 baht OR over 40,000 per month for a marriage visa. Why will they not give me a marriage visa?

    • Hi Paul,
This is not the right thread for this question, but let me answer your query.

You need to prove that you have been transferring 40,000 THB from abroad to your Thai bank account starting March 2019 in order for you to get a marriage visa right now. The transfer of funds must be at least 12 months without missing a month.

Also, our flight goes via Bangkok. Do we require a medical certificate and if so where do we get one now in Phuket?

For the Phuket to Bangkok flight, it is a domestic flight therefore the medical certificate is not required. As for the flight out of Thailand, you do not need a medical certificate as well. The UK embassy is in Bangkok, how can she get a letter? The Russian embassy isn’t writing letters they said in Samui. What is she supposed to do? They only extended her visa for 7 days until 1st April. What do we do if we can’t find a flight home to the UK?

    Please advise, many thanks,

    • If the embassy cannot issue the letter, her other option is to extend her visa for 7 days only or to leave Thailand and go somewhere else. Her last resort is to overstay the visa which we do not recommend.

They granted me only 7 days, and despite explaining to them that my flight was canceled and I have a problem returning back they denied giving me the option of 30 days (as you are describing above).

[All nationalities under the visa exemption scheme currently holding 30-day entry stamp are still able to extend for 30 days at the local immigration office, just like before]

I am stuck now and waiting for the airline to inform me if they could help me in the next 7 days. By the way, I have double citizenship if it can help.

    Please advise what to do!

    • If you have exhausted all possible options for extensions, please contact your embassy or consulate in Thailand to provide a letter stating that you are affected by the current COVID-19 crisis and that your flight has been canceled. The embassy will request the immigration office to extend your stay for another 30 days.

    Hi

I have a Thai Permanent Residence (Tang Dao). I was on business purpose in UAE and have to enter Thailand before April 24th, 2020. My period of stay outside Thailand for 1 year ends on the 24th of April.

I had my travel planned in the 3rd week of March. Flights are not operating anymore to Thailand from here and they haven’t specified when it will resume.

I can get a health certificate with Covid 19 lab test and health insurance but however time is very limited as I have to be there before the 24th of April. What to be done? Will I get an extension?
    Thanks

    • You need to enter Thailand and renew your visa or extension of stay before April 24. If you are unable to return to Thailand, you can restart the process for your new visa when the COVID-19 crisis is over.

      Hi,
I would like to know can I get an extension being in UAE through the Thai consulate here, as a permanent resident of Thailand?
      Thanks in advance.

    • No, the Thai embassy or consulate abroad does not extend Thai visas. They can issue a new visa for you.

We are flying from Manila to Bangkok this week to return to our place of work (Philippine nationals, both have Non-immigrant B visa). We have Thai insurance provided by our respective employer and Social Security as well. Do we have to get a new insurance policy or can we present our existing Thai insurance instead?

Also, our original flight was on 23/03/20 and we already obtained a health certificate on 21/03/20 but the Philippine Airline canceled our flight on that day and re-scheduled on 28/03/20. Do we have to obtain a new health certificate or can we use the one we previously obtained (as we were advised to stay at home until our flight date)?

    • In order for you to enter Thailand, you need the following: present a valid Health Certificate with a negative COVID-19 laboratory result issued within 72 hours of flight departure (applicable to all nationalities) upon check-in. The lab test and examination date must be clearly stated on the health certificate and health insurance document that provides at least USD 100,000 CIVID-19 coverage in Thailand.

I’ve been in Thailand since the 28th of February. I have a flight on 27th March back to the UK. I have self-isolated in my hotel for 10 days. Am I required to present a medical certificate on Thai Airways to get home even though I have not had any symptoms?

Hi, we are a couple from the UK, we arrived in Thailand on March 1st and have been in Koh Tao for the last 2 weeks, at the same hotel and shown no symptoms. We are due to leave Koh Tao on 28th March and fly to Bangkok with Air Asia, then flying out of Bangkok to UK on 29th March with Qatar. My question is, do we require a health certificate from a doctor for any of the points along with our travel?

    • Health certificate and insurance are not required for domestic flights. It is also not required for passengers who are leaving or exiting Thailand.

HI. I am a dual citizen with a passport from the USA and Vietnam. Both countries are 30 days visa exempt under Thai immigration laws. I entered Thailand on March 12th using my Vietnamese passport because that was my previous exit country. My 30 days visa exemption expires on April 12th. My first flight out on March 20th was canceled by the airline. My second flight on April 10th has also been canceled by a different airline. Vietnam has imposed a mandatory government institutional quarantine 14-25 days for all incoming persons into the country. My other option is to go to the USA, but my home state of New York is also under lockdown and declared a national disaster zone.

I asked for TM30 receipt and was given an invoice with a business card from the hotel. Is this enough along with my TM6 card and passport photo to get another 30 days extension? Also if I turn in the application and fee before April 12, when does the 30 days extension begin?

    • The document from the hotel is enough for your 30-day extension inside Thailand. For the extension, you just have to submit one passport size photo (4cm x 6cm) with white background, TM6 card, TM30 receipt from your hotel and pay the fee of 1,900 Thai baht.

I arrived in Bangkok on 7-Feb-2020 and I extended my visa for another 30 days. My visa will be expired on 6th April. I already booked my ticket back to Indonesia on 6th April.

I’m afraid my flight will be canceled due to Covid-19. Is it possible for me to get another 30 Days extension visa? Because I’m traveling with my Baby and he’s just 8 months old. It’s too risky for him to fly overseas with the current situation.

    Hello,
I have been in Thailand since the 27th of October 2019, so before the Covid 19 outbreak. I have not traveled to any affected countries during or since restrictions were put in place. I do not currently have medical insurance in place.
Should I contract The Corona Virus in Thailand, I understood that should I require hospital treatment, as a foreigner I can claim back any expenses, as stated by the Public Health Ministry. Is that correct? And am I eligible to do this? Thank you

    • If you are a tourist, no, you are not eligible. You should get health insurance now that will cover the COVID-19 expenses in case you got infected and hospitalized.

    • At the moment the Thai borders are closed for foreigners. We are (Singaporean students on exchange) flying from Almaty to Bangkok for transit to Singapore.

Kazakhstan only does a COVID test for those with symptoms and have been recently traveled to the severely affected countries.

We are unable to get the COVID 19 test done in Kazakhstan. Can a medical doctor certifying us that we do not have the symptoms and issue us the certificate for acceptance by the airline to issue a boarding pass to Bangkok?

    • Yes, transit passengers are required to present the COVID-19 health certificate. Health insurance is not required. If you are affected by this travel requirement, you may opt to postpone your travel or you may opt to book a flight that will not transit through Thailand. For the latest update, it is best to contact your airline.

Do I need to contact my embassy to get a 2nd visa extension? If I can not get a flight going to my country, what would be my situation if my permisos to be in the country is finished? Is it possible to get an exceptional visa extension?

Does the government recommend all tourists leaving Thailand, taking into consideration that moving, for example, going to get the airport is riskier than just staying quiet in a place?

I am a French citizen and have been in Thailand for two years on an ED visa, which is ending in two days (March 26th). I have been offered a job at a local school starting May 14th and, although I’ve signed the contract, my paperwork for my visa and permit will probably take 4 weeks to be ready.

I am unable to do a “visa run” as all borders have been closed.

I am very reluctant to travel back to France as I think this puts me at a higher risk of catching the virus (both during travel and in France). Also, when I’d be in France, my only option would be to stay with my 72-year-old mother, who has been advised to stay in full isolation.

Also, it is very possible I would not be able to return to Thailand in time for me to start my new job. My new employer wrote a letter for my embassy to ask them for the letter allowing me to apply for the 30-day extension but it is not their policy to provide it.

I discussed my situation with Immigration and their only advice was for me to stay on Overstay! At least until the government issues their new strategy, which might include fully closing all the airports.

Can you advise on any other actions I should be taking, please?

    • Your option now is to extend for 7 days at the local immigration office and then you must leave Thailand. If you wish to extend longer than 7 days, please contact your embassy or consulate in Thailand to provide a letter stating that you are affected by the current COVID-19 crisis and that your flights have been canceled. The embassy will request the immigration office to extend your stay for 30 days. If you are unable to obtain this letter, you are out of other options, therefore you need to leave Thailand and return to Thailand when your new employer can obtain the non-immigrant B visa for you in your home country.

Hope you’re well. We are currently in Phuket, Thailand and was supposed to leave the country on the 30th of March. However, we got an email (from Jetstar) today that our flight has been canceled.

We are from Australia and currently residing there as a resident and citizen. We are trying to book another flight from Phuket back to Sydney.

What are the requirements we need, as we are already leaving not entering this country?

Worst case scenario, if we can’t leave this country at this stage, how long can we extend our visa to stay, how to apply and if we can do it online? This will also be depending on how our country re-opens the flights back home to Sydney.

Thank you so much and we are looking forward to hearing from you.

    • You are only required to provide a medical certificate if you are under mandatory quarantine and you are leaving Thailand during the 14-day quarantine period. If you are not under quarantine, all you have to do is to take a flight out of Thailand to your home country while you still can. If you cannot leave Thailand due to the unavailability of flights, you can visit your local immigration office for a 30-day visa extension. If you have already extended your visa once, please contact your embassy or consulate in Thailand to provide a letter stating that you are affected by the current COVID-19 crisis and that your flights have been canceled. The embassy will request the immigration office to extend your stay for another 30 days.

We are unsure what to do as the situation in the UK seems worse than Thailand. Is there information on which airlines are running flights to UK and how long this will continue? Do you know if all flights will be stopped at some point?

Hello, we are a Canadian couple on a Non-Immigrant B visa. Due for exit stamp soon, May 2, 2020. I am told that borders are closed on land. We must fly but require 100 000 USD COVID policy which I cannot find. I have a broker in Bangkok. I heard they will not give an extension of stay for this visa B non-immigrant. Then if we leave cannot re-enter due to policy of the insurance requirements, is there another option for an extension of stay? Thank you.

    • I recommend for you to get a 30-day extension and wait for the borders to reopen. In order to get this extension, contact your embassy or consulate in Thailand to provide a letter stating that you are affected by the current COVID-19 crisis and that your flight has been canceled. • You are able to extend or convert your non-immigrant O visa into 1 year if you have 800,000 THB in a bank account. Another option is a 30-day extension. I have a Thai Permanent Residence (Tang Dao) but do not hold a Thai passport, I was born and raised in Thailand, and my whole family lives there. I am in the UK for work and need to come back by early July (the re-entry due date on the PR book). Can I still enter Thailand, and do I require a COVID-19 certificate or is a Fit to Fly certificate enough? The UK does not test for COVID-19 unless I’m sick so I can’t obtain it.

Additionally, if for whatever reason Thailand closes boarders till after my re-entry date, will I not be allowed to enter Thailand anymore?

    Thanks in advance!

    • Since you do not hold Thai nationality, you are required to provide a health certificate with a COVID-19 lab test and health insurance. However, if your trip is in July, it is safe to say that this crisis may be over at that time. Maybe in July, the travel restriction will be lifted already.

Hello, I am a US Citizen that has been living in Thailand for almost 10 years with a Non-B Visa and a work permit. I have not been back to the US in four years now and live full-time in Thailand. My Visa renews in June. If there are travel restrictions in local countries or back into Thailand, will there be any extensions or exceptions made? Will a COVID-19 health certificate done inside Thailand, be acceptable for entry back into Thailand? And would the $100,000 USD health insurance still be required, when I am already a full-time resident in Thailand? Thanks for your guidance.

    • If your non-immigrant B visa will expire in June, you may ask your employer to extend your visa within Thailand. That is the best solution. However, if the company is not eligible to get the extension of stay, you must get a new visa from a Thai embassy abroad. When that time comes, and travel restrictions are still in place, a health certificate is required and must be issued by a medical doctor from the country where you will be traveling from. Health insurance will be required also since you are not a Thai citizen.

What if our embassies do not provide the request for an extension letter? (I hold a polish passport, and he holds UK passport) Please advise. Thank you very much!

    • The visa that you have requires you to exit Thailand and re-enter. To avoid this, you must contact your employer and request them to obtain the 1-year extension of stay. If your company is not eligible to do that, your only option is either a 7-day extension or a 30-day extension with the embassy letter.

Hello, I am in Thailand on a Non-O visa married to a Thai man. My visa expires April 3rd I have already applied and paid for my extension and currently in the 30-day consideration period.

Will my visa be granted? I have a 4-month-old baby and do not want to travel at this time.

    • Yes, it will be granted. You only need to visit the Thai immigration office on the date stated in your passport. That date is usually 30 days after you submitted the application.

I am an Australian on a Non-O multiple marriage visa from Sisaket due to end this June 2. Can I apply for a 60-day extension as I have been told but have never applied before as all borders are closed? Robert

    • Yes, it is possible to obtain a 60-day temporary extension based on having a Thai wife. For the extension, you just have to submit proof of marriage, one passport size photo (4cm x 6cm) with white background, TM6 card, TM30 receipt from your hotel and pay the fee of 1,900 Thai baht. You also need to take your wife with you at the immigration office.

    1. What should we do if the embassy doesn’t provide the service to write the letter?
    2. Some embassies ask us to get the letter personally, which means everyone is at high risk. Is there any other solution?
    Thank you

    • If the embassy will not provide the letter for the 30-day extension, your last possible option for the extension is only 7 days and after that, you must leave Thailand.

I am a British Citizen but have been away in Cambodia since September. I have a flight to Bangkok, medical certificate and insurance. Can I still get Visa on Arrival? It is recommended I self-monitor, can I leave this early to get my next flight out of Bangkok a few days later?

    • Yes, it is still possible for you to be granted a visa exemption stamp at the airport. If you must leave Thailand days after entry, it is possible and you are not required to do any exit medical screening.

I have been in Thailand for 1 year with an ED visa and my visa will expire on 12th April 2020. I booked an appointment at the Thai Consulate in Vientiane on the 2nd April to get a tourist visa and come back to Thailand (via land). Will I be able to re-enter Thailand or do I need a virus-free certificate when I return (I will be in Laos 2 days)?

    • In order for you to enter Thailand, you need to present a valid Health Certificate with a negative COVID-19 laboratory result issued within 72 hours of flight departure (applicable to all nationalities) upon check-in. The lab test and examination date must be clearly stated on the health certificate and health insurance document that provides at least USD 100,000 coverage in Thailand.

    Hey,
I am leaving from Australia and have a transit through Bangkok to get back to my home country in Europe. Do I need a health certificate for a 1-hour transit?

    • Yes, transit passengers are required to present the COVID-19 health certificate. Health insurance is not required. If you are affected by this travel requirement, you may opt to postpone your travel or you may opt to book a flight that will not transit through Thailand. For the latest update, it is best to contact your airline.

I am going to and coming back from Yangon (Myanmar) via Bangkok (with 2/3 hours transit time in the airport) from Narita (Japan) without passing through immigration. Do I need USD 100,000 insurance?

    • Most likely transiting passengers are required to present a COVID-19 health certificate only. If you are taking another airline, it is best to contact your airline directly.

Hello, I am currently in Bali as I renewed my non-immigrant b ED Visa here. Here in Bali, there are no places to test for the coronavirus so it is very confusing how am I supposed to get a health certificate. my flight has been canceled 4 times already and I have had to stay in Bali for another extra 8 NIGHTS! Someone please explain to me how to get tested in Bali when there are no testing facilities available here? And my Thai girlfriend is also with me here in Bali so she is in the same situation.

At the moment I’m in Japan and trying to get back to Poland. There are no direct flights from Japan nor any organized by my government. There are flights from BKK to Warsaw. I could take a flight to BKK and transit there however, that would mean that I have to go through passport control to reclaim my luggage and go through check-in again. I don’t want to leave the airport just need to do transit. Do I have to have all the documents and health certificates to do that?

I am a UK national on a holiday in Thailand. I have a sixty-day tourist visa which I have extended for 30 days, this runs out on 15/4 the day I am due to leave Thailand however my flight has been canceled. I may be able to get another flight but I’m unsure yet. Can I extend this visa further due to the coronavirus if I can not leave the country?

    • If you have exhausted all possible options for extensions, please contact your embassy or consulate in Thailand to provide a letter stating that you are affected by the current COVID-19 crisis and that your flight has been canceled. The embassy will request the immigration office to extend your stay for 30 days.

I have a multi-entry tourist visa valid till 20/06/2020. I arrived in Thailand on January 17th, 2020 and have done a 30 days extension within at Koh Samui till April 15th, 2020. Normally on April 15, I should need to leave the country to get another 2 months. At the moment I am not able to travel to another country and come back. Not traveling at the moment is safer.
What do I need to do to extend my visa in April till the end of May?

I have a flight scheduled back to my home country on May 28. I have the Dutch nationality, but I am living in Belgium and the situation in Belgium is much worse than in Thailand, so I would prefer to stay in Thailand.

    • If you have exhausted all possible options for extensions, please contact your embassy or consulate in Thailand to provide a letter stating that you are affected by the current COVID-19 crisis. The embassy will request the immigration office to extend your stay for another 30 days.

      Hello,

I arrived in Bangkok last week from Hong Kong and submit all required documents at airports including medical certificate and T8 form. I was asked for home quarantine

since than I was in my room, but I was not aware about daily health submission through AOT app. it’s my 12th day and I am in my room and 100% fit, no symptoms of any type of sickness.

please tell what to do in this case.

    • March 31, 2020

If you are under mandatory quarantine, you need to get in touch with the health officer. Please use the TM8 app regarding this, I believe they have posted a number that you can contact in case you need to speak to them.
